The Good Stuff by Shelley Bennett

For the past few days, members of the Lassen High School Grizzliettes received training in dance technique and learned routines in a variety of genres, including jazz, military, hip hop and kick. The annual camp, hosted by the United Spirit Association, was held at William Jessup University in Rocklin.

The Drill Team earned the highest honor, Superior, for their performance of “Tick Tick Boom.” In this dance, captains Renee Delgado and Sofia Bennett were challenged to integrate level changes, signature moves, and other challenging choreography.

Lassen Fire Near End

August 1, 1924

One of the most destructive and stubborn forest fires in the history of Lassen County is at last burning into a section where control is assured after destroying over 4000 acres of timber in the Fruit Growers’ Supply Company’s property at the edge of the Lassen National Forest.

The blaze covered an eight-mile front and was within several hundred yards of Eagle Lake Resort when checked. A temporary camp has been established at Eagle Lake to care for the fire fighters and provide food and other supplies.

The fire is 18 miles northeast of Westwood and 31 miles northwest of Susanville. Tourists are again entering Eagle Lake, although it will take at least two days to completely extinguish the smaller brush and stump fires.
