Adopt A Pet Today from the Lassen County Animal Shelter – Leon
|
Three adjectives to describe Leon? Attentive, photogenic, and spunky.
This guy has so much potential. He has smarts and is waiting for the right person to come along and teach him new tricks. Leon truly wants to learn. All he needs is for someone to take the reins and show him direction. Leon will catch on quickly; he is eager to please.
Due to Leon coming to the Lassen County Animal Shelter as a stray, his history is unknown. Though, staff is getting to know Leon better each day.

Further evaluation will need to be done to determine how he is with other dogs, but so far there has been no fighting or aggression through fences. However, he does have a habit of jumping up at this point in time. He just gets so very excited to hang out with people.
This rambunctious behavior could cause Leon to knock over small children without even realizing it. Leon is microchipped, neutered, vaccinated and estimated to be about a year old. If interested in meeting Leon, or other adoptable animals at the shelter, please call shelter staff at (530) 257-9200.
|
|
Featured animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter are available for adoption on a first-come-first-serve basis. According to California law, all adoptable dogs and cats must be spayed and neutered before leaving our facility. If interested in adopting an animal, please contact the shelter directly.
Current shelter hours during the COVID-19 pandemic are Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday. You can contact the shelter at 257-9200.

Welcome to a New 4-H Year, from Ambassadors Lily and Maddi
|
Howdy friends! The new 4-H year starts September 1st! As a 4-H member the highest local rank that is possible is the County Ambassador. This year Lassen County 4-H is thrilled to announce that we have two members that have reached this rank!
“No one is you and that’s your power!” Hey there! I am Maddi Johnson and I have been in 4-H for 10 years. I am currently the Milford 4-H President and hold the rank of Emerald Star and County Ambassador.
I am honored to have been selected as one of the Lassen County 4-H Ambassadors and hope that I get to meet all of you this coming year.
|
|
|
I’ve been in several 4-H Projects including: rabbits, cavy, robotics, sewing, outdoor adventure, sheep, swine, and beef. My favorite part of 4-H is helping young members set and reach their goals! There is nothing more rewarding than helping someone learn and excel at whatever they set their mind to!
A lot of people think that you must show an animal to join 4-H but that is not true! 4-H has cooking, sewing, gardening, and many more projects that your children can participate in. 4-H has been a HUGE part of my life and I hope that we can share it with you too!

A much-younger Lily and Maddi showing rabbits for 4-H
|
|
Hi, my name is Lily Ammon. I am very excited to be representing 4-H as an Ambassador this year. I have been a member of Richmond 4-H for 10 years. My favorite projects are rabbits and market lambs.
Last year I won 1st place in advanced sheep showmanship and Reserve Champion Market Lamb. I am also a part of the Lassen High School Drill Team and dance at Dance Elevation.
I was a part of the Vet Science team and Creed speaking through FFA. This year my favorite moment was being able to host an interview contest with Maddi Johson as our EMerald Star Project.
I can’t wait to put on fun activities, projects and community services with Maddi this year as an Ambassador. I am really excited for this opportunity and can’t wait for an amazing year!
We might be from different 4-H Clubs but we have been in 4-H together a long time! How cool is that? We started by showing rabbits together at the age of 5!
Please join the Lassen County 4-H Ambassadors and the rest of Lassen County 4-H at our Open House this evening, August 22nd, from 5:00 to 6:30p.m., at the Tractor Supply in Susanville. Every club will be present with information about what they have to offer!
Here in Lassen County, there are so many different groups you can choose from each offering a unique experience!
If you are unable to attend the Open House and would like more information please reach out to Darcy Hansen, 4-H Office Representative, at (530)251-8285.
Lily and Maddi will be hosting the Ambassador’s Corner here on SusanvilleStuff.com and we hope that you enjoy learning about this wonderful youth program that Lassen County has to offer!

Lassen Rodeo Plans Progress
August 22, 1944
Approximately 40 posse members worked at the fair grounds Sunday in preparation for the forthcoming rodeo-racing and horse show. They report the grounds will be in excellent condition for the two day show. The rodeo opens Saturday night September 2, with a dance at the Memorial building, and continues through Monday, September 4.
Art Ducasse of the posse, states that several floats have been entered in the parade. Floats can be any type, either horse drawn or otherwise. According to C. C. Doyle tickets to the big show and rodeo are being sold daily.
The committee has their work about completed. Jud Jensen and Kenneth Doyle. Co-chairman of the horse show have every event filled. Harles Evans, racing chairman, has more than ten outside horses entered in the races.
The committee in charge of arrangements has issued the request that all Susanville residents dress in western costumes on Friday, August 25.
