Festival of Lights is brought to you by your Lassen County Fairgrounds. Make sure to come out and look at all the Christmas displays people have worked so hard on. December 16th through December 25th, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the Lassen County Fair is hosting its ‘Holiday Festival of Lights’ exhibition at the fairgrounds. Friday and Saturday gates are open 5:00 – 9:00p.m., and on Sunday, gates are open 5:00 – 8:00p.m. Gates will be open the whole week from Friday, December 16th through the following Sunday, December 25th. The hours for December 24th, Christmas Eve, are 5:00 – 10:00p.m. Please note, Friday, December 16th is walk-through only from 4:00 – 8:00p.m., no cars. Church of Jesus Christ in Susanville presents The Live Nativity. This family-friendly, outdoor Live Nativity will run for three nights. Friday, December 16th through Sunday, December 18, 2022, from 7:00 – 8:00p.m., each evening. Admission to the Live Drive-Thru Nativity is free. You can arrive anytime between 7:00 and 8:00p.m.

Lassen Library will be holding a Gingerbread House Party on Saturday, December 17th from 11:00 to 12:30p.m., located at Lassen Library 1618 Main Street, Susanville. Geared toward Elementary aged children. Join us for an afternoon of gingerbread house building.

Lassen County Chamber of Commerce has launched its Holiday Shopping Campaign, Magic Made Local. This year they have 23 participating businesses around town for you to get all your holiday shopping needs. This campaign will run thru December 20th. Once you have visited 5 or more of the participating locations and received a stamp in your brochure you may drop it off at the Chamber office, 1516 Main Street for a chance to be put in for raffle baskets. Tilley Quits Lassen Post

December 12th, 1946

J. Tilley has resigned as city fire engineer, and also as city clerk, effective January 1, but will retain the position of city engineer, it was announced at the meeting of the city council this week.

Tilley first became city clerk and engineer in 1922, and returned to the position twice, after short periods in other work. He will become full time engineer for the Lassen-Modoc joint highway 14, in which he has been active for several years.

Gabe Laxalt, employed by the State Farm Insurance Co., is the new fire engineer, starting Monday of this week, and as city clerk January 1, Laxalt has lived in Susanville most of his life. A graduate of the Lassen Union high school, he served four and a half years in the army, as a member of an air force inspection team in Italy.

He encircled the world from New Zealand, Australia, India, Suez and Palestine, North Africa to Italy while in the service.

Tilley expects to have preliminary work on joint highway 14 completed for awarding a contract for 17 miles next spring, and 16 miles on the Adin end for construction Next Summer.
