Susanville Scouts Provide Stores Christmas Trees

The Boy Scouts of America program in Susanville, Calif., will benefit from Eagle Thrifty Drugs and Markets, Inc.’s purchase of Christmas trees for the third consecutive year. About 75 boys in the Lassen District of the Nevada Area Council of Boy Scouts have cut Christmas trees in the Susanville area several weekends to fill Eagle Thrifty’s order. The trees will be sold through eight of Eagle Thrifty’s Northern Nevada stores as well as the Susanville store.
Four different scouting groups, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Ventures and Explorers, participated in the project. Fred Dunnell, scoutmaster of participating Boy Scout Troop No. 58, said funds raised through the sale of Christmas trees would go back into the scouting program.
“For instance, the tree funds will make it possible for our troops to take a 50-mile canoe trip next spring. For us, these funds are a major source of income,” he said.
Helping to coordinate the project along with Scout leaders was Louise Richins, representing the Latter-Day Saints Church in Susanville which is as scouting program sponsor.
According to Jack Williams, general manager of Eagle Thrifty, the Christmas tree order is “in keeping with our policy of buying wherever possible in the communities we serve.”
