A SusanvilleStuff Video Feature

by Marshel Couso, Jeremy Couso and Mikalah Gray

The Lassen County Chamber of Commerce’s Magical Country Christmas Celebration, held Saturday, December 7th, in historic uptown, was a splendid way to kick off the holiday season in Susanville, with more than a thousand people lining the street for live entertainment, the parade and fireworks as the tree was lit.

You can watch the entire parade from start to finish on Youtube.

Cleaning Out the Closet? Monticola

Club Wants Your Footwear

The Susanville Monticola Club wants your shoes! Rid your closets of extra, unused shoes to make room for the new shoes, slippers or boots that may be coming your way for Christmas.

Members are looking for gently used and new shoes in all types, styles and sizes.

Men’s, women’s and children’s shoes are all needed and donations don’t just benefit the club – your sneakers, flip-flops, sandals, loafers, cleats, dance shoes, sleepers, boots etc., will get a second life in countries where people are in need.

How does it work? Drop your shoes off at the Edward D. Jones office at 515B Ash Street or at the Monticola Club on south Lassen Street. There is also a large drop-box at Susanville Supermarket IGA.

Klamath Falls Man Arrested for

Breaking into Downtown Gas Station

A Klamath Falls man was arrested early Friday morning when officers from the Susanville Police Department found him in posession of merchandise taken from Spirit Gas Station on Main Street just moments earlier.

At around 2:20a.m., officers responded to the gas station for an alarm call.

“Officers observed damage to the building and observed signs of theft from the business,” explains Public Safety Chief Michael Bengoa-Bollinger.

“Officers continued a search of the area and contacted a male immediately in the area who had merchandise from the store found in his possession.”

The man taken into custody was later identified as Klamath Falls resident Michael Scott Tyree.

“Tyree was arrested by officers from the Susanville Police Department and booked into the Lassen County Jail for burglary and resisting arrest.”

Beckett Christmas Trees are Shipped to Los Angeles

December 23, 1978

A local Christmas tree supplier Charlie Beckett, left, supervises final preparations as truck driver Jewell Britt (on ground) and Joel Marques secure a load of Christmas trees bound for the Los Angeles area.

Two trailers containing trees ranging in size from eight inches to 20 feet tall left Susanville Sunday and Beckett says there could be more large shipments before Christmas.

“We have shipped 50,000 to 60,000 trees before,” Beckett says, “and we could hit about 40,000 this year.”

He says trees, primarily silver tips and white firs, are shipped to all parts of the country.

Beckett and Beckett Christmas Tree employs about 30 workers each season. They begin cutting trees near the end of October from property near Mt. Shasta and on Roop Mountain.
