4-H members from all over will be ringing the bell for Salvation Army, donating toy filled boxes to Operation Christmas Child, donating pet food and supplies to Lassen County Animal Shelter, bringing canned food to Lassen Senior Services and some clubs will even be decorating doors at Eagle Lake Village and Lassen Nursing & Rehabilitation.

The Festival of Lights will be running every weekend this month at the Lassen County Fairgrounds (they have a schedule on their Facebook & Instagram pages).

Both Lake and Milford 4-H will be having a light display. This year there is a School vs. School competition – make sure to check it out. It is free to the public.

Milford 4-H will be serving free baked goods, hot chocolate and coffee on December 17 at Jensen Hall, the entrance to the Festival of Lights.

Standish 4-H will be hosting their annual Christmas Craft Fair December 9-11 at the Standish 4-H Hall. South County 4-H will be serving popcorn balls at the Doyle Christmas Tree lighting! Please follow our Lassen County 4-H Facebook page to see each club’s upcoming events.

We would like to announce that we have chosen to host “Family Fun Nights” as our Ambassador Project for our 2022/2023 year. After talking a lot about what our 4-H program was missing and what our community needed more of, the answer was simple – fun! We will have three family fun nights open to the public (one winter, spring and summer edition).

Please join us for our Winter Edition Family Fun Night on December 27 at 6pm inside Jensen Hall at the Lassen County Fairgrounds for “Bingo Night.” You do not have to be a 4-H member to attend.

The cost of admission is one canned food item (please check expiration dates) to help fill our local food banks after the holidays.

Atencio is described by the LCSO as a 5’10” Indian male weighing 230 lbs. He is of medium to stocky build with black hair and brown eyes. His last known address was on Kei-Deh Street in Susanville.

Anyone who sees Atencio or has any knowledge of his whereabouts should call 911 or 530-257-6121.

“A preliminary investigation suggests Atencio squeezed through a portion of fencing that had been manipulated in the roof area of an exercise yard,” explains Lassen Sheriff Dean Growdon.

“Detectives have determined that Atencio was assisted by one or more persons from outside of the facility as well as other inmates from within the facility.”

According to Growdon, Atencio was booked into the Lassen County Jail in May of this year on charges related to kidnapping, home invasion robbery, false imprisonment, and parole violation.

In a follow-up press release this afternoon the Sheriff’s Office identified another suspect in the escape.

“Deputies and Detectives from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office determined that Angelo Atencio was assisted in his escape from the Lassen County Jail by Ashly Ward, 33, of Susanville.”

Ward, according to the LCSO is Atencio’s girlfriend, and she was not in custody at the time of his escape. It was arranged that Ward would pick Atencio up near the jail.

Ward is described by the LCSO as a “light skinned black female, 5’4”, 150 lbs. Black hair, brown eyes.”

The picture of Ward above is current and shows that she has dyed her hair red.

“There are active warrants for the arrests of Atencio and Ward. If anybody has any information on the whereabouts of Atencio and Ward, you are encouraged to call 911. Do not try to contact Atencio and Ward. They are considered armed and dangerous.”

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office is working with multiple law enforcement agencies who are assisting in the investigation.

“This innovative alternative model to a senior congregate meal site provides Dine Around Town Senior Nutrition Program participants with vouchers which can be redeemed for healthy, nutritionally balanced meals at Lumberjack Restaurant in Susanville,” explains Lassen Director of Health and Social Services, Barbara Longo, MS, RDN.

Benefits to DAT Senior Nutrition Program Participants include:

• Access to nutritious meal choices
• Increased socialization
• Decrease in food insecurity
• Improves the lives of the community’s older adults

Program Eligibility:

• Aged 60 and over
• Reside in Lassen County
• Complete required registration and assessment process
• It is the responsibility of the program participant to provide their own transportation

Fine Auto Road May Connect Two Places

Thoroughfare from Susanville And Reno Will Be Built if County Will Do Its Share

Providing Washoe county will do its share, one of the finest automobile roads in the country will connect Susanville and other parts of Lassen, Modoc and Northern counties with Reno is the word conveyed to the county commissioners of Washoe County by A. J. Mathews, member of the California legislature from Lassen County and one of the boosters of the Northern California city.

Mathews was in Reno Saturday and spent the greater part of the day in company with County Commissioner R. B. Henrichs discussing the road situation. He said that Lassen county was going to bond itself to build a good road to Washoe county line providing Washoe county will build a road to meet it.

There will be other roads constructed in the county but the one towards Reno will be of the best. Mathews and other prominent men of Lassen County are behind the proposed bond issue and they realize that Reno is the gateway to the entire Northern country.

It is expected that the county commissioners of Washoe County will provide for building the road from Reno to the county line.

A good road from Susanville to the Washoe county line is one of the aims of the residents of Lassen County.
