Wear Orange Today! LFS Invites You to Unite for Teen Dating Violence Awareness
Lassen Family Services is inviting everyone to join with the agency in raising awareness during February for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and today, February 11th, they are asking you to wear orange to show your support. Every year, young people and advocates across the country come together to shed light on teen dating violence and promote education and advocacy efforts.
The theme of this year’s event is, Respect That, emphasizing the critical role that respect plays in relationships. Respect is not just a word – it’s an action, a mindset, and a commitment. It means treating partners with dignity, valuing their autonomy, listening to their perspectives and respecting their boundaries.

Loveisrespect.org says that teen dating violence is more common than many realize. It involves a pattern of harmful behaviors used to exert power and control over a dating partner. Many teens are either directly impacted by dating abuse or witness it within their families.
- 1 in 3 teens in the U.S. will experience dating abuse before adulthood.
- 43% of college women report experiencing violent and abusive dating behaviors.
- 1 in 10 high school students face dating violence.
- 1 in 3 teens in the United States will experience abuse by someone they are in a relationship with before they become adults.
“Join us in this colorful mission to support survivors and spread awareness,” says Lassen Family Services’ Executive Director Angela Reed.
“Share your orange look with us – bonus points for creative use of orange accessories! Let’s make our timelines a sea of orange together!”
Post photos or yourself wearing orange and post to social media with the hashtags #LassenFamilyServicesRespectThat and #TVDAM2025.

Cal-TRANS photos
Leave a Little Extra Time When Traveling Over Fredonyer Summit
The California Department of Transportation is working to mitigate damage from several slides near Fredonyer Summit on Highway 36 west of Susanville. The state agency is working with Tullis, Inc to continue emergency pavement repairs and to address the slides, which they attribute to seismic activity.
According to Cal-TRANS District 2, pavement conditions in the section of the highway just east of the summit are unsuitable for low clearance vehicles and they advise drivers to use extreme caution.
Grinding and pavement smoothing work over various fault lines is taking place, along with a geological and survey investigation to best determine a more comprehensive, long-term fix for the area.
Motorists traveling over the summit should plan for 24/7 one-way traffic control with up to 15-minute delays. If conditions get worse Cal-TRANS says that stop signs may be added, requiring motorists to stop and then travel slowly through the area.
