Why We Love This Place
Wednesday: Glen Schall
By Terra Avilla
Glen Schall is the kind of guy who makes you wonder if he’s secretly hiding a superhero costume under his Cal-FIRE uniform. By day, he’s battling working full time for Cal-FIRE. But, by night, he’s wrangling boys and winning “Husband of the Year” awards (I can assume).
Anyone who has ever worked with Glen, says the same thing. They want to be around him. They want him on their team. That’s right, folks, Glen Schall is out helping prevent fires and saving lives.
| |
|
He’s kinda like Indiana Jones joined the fire department, but with less running from boulders and more filling out incident reports.
As if being a great dad and a community hero wasn’t enough, Glen also manages to be an awesome husband. My first memory of Glen was doing a couple’s bible study in his house years ago and just watching him and Kerissa together – how he spoke to her and treated her – it still sticks out in my mind to this day!
It’s obvious he really loves his wife, and in this day and age, I think that is worth taking note of. Just like he really loves all of his sons. (3 wonderful boys!)
Glen somehow manages to be an incredibly present father, particularly when it comes to his sons’ athletic pursuits. Whether it’s baseball or wrestling, Glen can always be found on the sidelines, offering encouragement and guidance to his boys, and really to any other young athlete he comes upon.
Glen just has this way about him, that people flock to (especially kids).
I can attest that he and Kerissa babysat Pearl ONE time, and she won’t shut up about the man. Kids can tell a good human when they meet one, and luckily for me, I too have known this for quite some time.
Glen isn’t pretentious or boasting, he just is a good person who loves Jesus, his family and the community.
It’s no wonder my husband has a bit of a man crush on Glen, and with how Glen is as a huma being, I’d say my Frankie picked a good person to look up to.
Glen Schall is the kind of neighbor we all wish we had. He’s proof that you can be a dedicated professional, a loving family man, and still have time to inspire admiration in the community.
We love this place because of people like you who make our community both safer and more entertaining every day.

Susanville Man Arrested After Valentine’s
Day Pursuit Through City Streets
A Susanville man was arrested early Friday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase through residential areas on the north side of town.
According to details released by the Susanville Police Department, at approximately 1:10a.m. on February 14th, a Susanville Police Department officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Main Street near Sacramento Street at 62 mph in a 30mph zone. The officer confirmed the speed with radar.
“The officer activated emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle,” explains Susanville Public Safety Chief Michael Bengoa-Bollinger. “The vehicle turned off Main Street and continued driving at a high rate of speed in residential neighborhoods.”

|
The officer briefly lost sight of the vehicle, but another officer located it and continued the pursuit. The vehicle eventually stopped in the parking lot of the Meadowbrook Apartments on Roop Street.
The driver, identified as Susanville resident Elijah Mossinger, was arrested without incident.
He was booked into the Lassen County Jail on charges of evading a police officer, driving under the influence, and obstructing a police officer.
Bengoa-Bollinger and the SPD thanked the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the incident.

The Fireman’s Ball
February 19, 1925
Susanville has a good a Volunteer Fire Department as is to be found anywhere and the town itself since the purchase of the new fire fighting apparatus has been to certain extent free from fires. At least disastrous fires in Susanville have been practically nil.
The fireboys who serve without pay have held themselves in readiness at all hours of the day or night to answer a summons and without regard to personal safety in some instances and without regard to damage to their clothes in all instances have done their full duty.
In 1924 they spent $900 for furnishing up their quarters in the city hall, $170 for rubber coats, hats and helmets and rubber boots, and $90 for janitor work. No money has been spent for banquets or any foolishness and they have suffered the loss of some of their own clothing at fires.
At the present time there are 11 members who signed up with the Volunteer Organization 2 ½ years ago.
In order to replenish their treasury, which has with the expenditures above mentioned reached a low state, the department is giving another dance tomorrow night at the Orpheum, and everyone should either attend or make it a point to purchase a ticket.
The reductions that have been secured in insurance rates should not be lost sight of, and the boys should be made to feel that even though they are very seldom thanked for their services they are appreciated none the less.
