The newly finished Veterans Memorial Hall in 1926 ~From an Eastman Studios postcard~

Memorial Building Plans Specifications Ready for Bids Soon

January 24, 1926

The final blueprints and specifications for the Lassen County Memorial Building have been held up to some extent during the last two weeks on account of the great amount of detail necessary and the fact that Ralph Taylor, the architect, has had a great deal of other work to attend to.

However, he has offered his services to the local American Legion post, to draw these plans and has been devoting much of his time, night and day, to this work. It is expected that bids will be advertised in the local papers in the issues of February 12, 19 and 26th, which will comply with the three week’s advertising period as provided by law.

If this is done, it is expected that the Board of Supervisors will set the regular March meeting as the time for opening bids and letting the contract. It is planned to construct the building on the continuing contract basis, and work will actually commence by the middle of March.

Taylor estimates that the building can be finished within four months and if started before March 15th, it should be completed by July 15th or 30 days before the American Legion State Convention convenes here on August 17th.

The Memorial is to be erected on the property which Thomas Tucker Post No. 204 has deeded to the County and is on the knoll directly across from the High School on lower Main Street. This will be an ideal location for this monument, which will undoubtedly be dedicated to the Lassen County boys who lost their lives in the World War.

The building will be used by the veterans organizations of all wars and will also house a number of the county offices. The auditorium will be used for nearly all civic purposes and veteran’s between 800 and 900 persons.
