Mr and Mrs Bondon with their pups Dash and Max
The Good Stuff by Shelley Bennett
On Saturday July 9th, 2022 surrounded by the people who love them the most, Katelyn Martin and Micah Bondon were married in a double ring ceremony.

The bride was radiant in an ivory gown with lace and pearl accents. She accessorized with a cathedral length veil attached to a jeweled headpiece, a dainty pearl necklace, and sparkly earrings.

The dapper groom wore an all-black tuxedo accented with a blush-colored bow tie. They were accompanied by their sweet pups, Dash and Max, who wore matching pinstripes.
Their human attendants included groomsmen Kyle Martin, Justin Cardenas, Jake Morgan, Jeremy Bondon, and Nick Hibbits with Kenny Crandall and David Estacio sharing Best Men duties. They wore black slacks, white dress shirts, and blush bow ties and suspenders.

Bridesmaids, Gabriella Karns, Hunter Lindsey, Stephanie Plessas, Jessica Speiker, and Jordan Sandeen, were clad in blush chiffon and carried beautiful mixed bouquets in shades of pink, peach, and ivory.

Maids of Honor, Madisyn Harlan and Abrial Scheff, donned full-length sequin gowns, also in blush. Flower girl, Ellie Bondon led the way down the aisle, boisterously tossing her rose petals, while Kaylee Karns wrangled the dogs with grace.

Minister Gerry Hibbitts officiated the ceremony and emphasized how special it was for him to be involved. He noted that the pair has a multitude of strong couples to look to for inspiration, including the bride’s grandparents, Virginia and Kim Erb and Shirley and David Martin, who have both been married for more than fifty years.

Micah and Katelyn shared their personal vows and as they spoke, the attendees could hear the emotion in their voices. From meeting each other for the first time at the Lassen County Fair and reconnecting a few years later at Lake Almanor to road trip adventures and setting up a home, the two spun a tale of love, laughter, and support for one another.
The guests erupted in applause as Katelyn and Micah sealed their vows with a kiss and it was time to start the celebration.

Far Far Away’s reception area was swathed in white twinkle lights and gossamer.

Photographs of Micah and Katelyn’s relationship added a special touch to the décor. One of the most unique elements were the tables, which were each named for one of Katelyn’s students and included their thoughts on weddings and marriage. It was the perfect backdrop for this fairytale wedding.

The guests enjoyed signature cocktails, a delicious dinner, and scrumptious cake created by Dana Hirsche. The three-tiered beauty was constructed of white cake, lemon and raspberry fillings, and buttercream icing. Then it was time to dance! Which the bridal party and guests did with enthusiasm into the late hours of the night.

It was truly a magical day that reflected the love Micah and Katelyn have for each other and those around them. Congratulations to them as they begin a new chapter of their love story.

Katelyn is the daughter of Cyndy and David Martin of Susanville and is currently a Kindergarten teacher at McKinley School. Micah is the son of Janette and Shawn Bondon of Chester and is a Data Coordinator at Lassen Family Services. They will continue to make their home in Susanville.

NWS Warns That Heat, Smoke and Thunderstorms are on the Way
Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno are warning that an extended period of above normal temperatures is expected this week.

While no records are anticipated, weather experts recommend that you consider reducing, canceling or rescheduling strenuous activities to a cooler time of the day.

Higher risk people, such as infants, the elderly, or sick individuals should remain in the coolest available place.
Never leave children or animals in a vehicle for any amount of time.

There is a chance (10-20%) for storms Tuesday afternoon, evening, and overnight into early Wednesday morning. The biggest concerns with any storms that develop will be for
gusty and erratic outflow winds and dry lightning.

It looks like the region will have a break from storms Wednesday into Thursday with additional thunderstorm chances (10-20%) Friday and into the weekend.

Smoke from the Washburn Fire near Yosemite could impact areas of the Eastern Sierra and the Tahoe basin tonight into Wednesday, but most likely wont make it as far north as the Honey Lake Valley.

The potential density of smoke remains uncertain, however pockets of poor air quality are possible. For the latest air quality conditions and recommendations go to fire.airnow.gov.
Washington State Homicide Suspect Dead After Clear Creek Standoff
The suspect in a Ferndale, Washington homicide case took his own life after a brief standoff with law enforcement at a residence in Clear Creek Saturday afternoon.

According to details provided by the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Ferndale Police Department detectives made contact early Saturday regarding a homicide that had occurred on July 7th.

An arrest warrant had been obtained for 49 year-old Todd Daniel Andersen in connection with the homicide.
Andersen fled Washington in a gray Dodge Challenger with Clear Creek as a possible destination. Ferndale detectives also warned that Andersen was considered to be armed and dangerous.

“Shortly after receiving this information, it was reported to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office that Andersen and his vehicle were located in Clear Creek,” explains LCSO Lieutenant David Woginrich.

“Upon confirming the report, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics, and Crisis Negotiations teams were called out.”

A warrant was obtained by LCSO personnel to search for and arrest Andersen.

Shortly before 5:00p.m., the SWAT Team approached a residence in Clear Creek where Andersen was known to be.

“Andersen was spotted in the driveway and he immediately ran away towards the back of the residence. SWAT Team members located Andersen as he was lying down on an embankment holding a gun to his head.”

“SWAT Team members attempted de-escalation techniques, but unfortunately, Anderson shot himself.”

According to Woginrich, SWAT Team members and other deputies immediately began life-saving efforts on Andersen. These life-saving efforts continued for approximately 17 minutes until paramedics arrived on scene. A short time later Andersen was pronounced dead.

“The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the California Highway Patrol for their assistance in this incident. Further, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office Command Staff would like to specially thank and recognize the efforts of all personnel involved in this unfortunate and traumatic incident.”

Telephone Company To Expand Lines
July 12, 1929

Announcing an extensive construction program at Susanville yesterday, officials of the Nevada, California and Oregon Telephone and Telegraph Company, said a new copper circuit to Reno will be installed, providing a faster service and relieving the present heavy wire traffic between the two cities. Work on the improvements will start August 1.

The equipment will include the addition of phantom coils, providing a three-circuit line.

An entire new pole line will be constructed between Doyle and the Reno-Quincy highway, replacing the present line which follows the old right of way of the N. C. O. railway. The new line will follow the highway and will cost approximately $30,000, officials said.

A crew of fifteen men will be employed on the work under the supervision of Foreman Al Spitz and will be completed by November 1. Construction headquarters will be established at Doyle.
