The Claybreakers in Las Vegas – photos provided
Grizzly Claybreakers Do Well at US Open Nationals in Las Vegas
Members of the Lassen Grizzly Claybreakers competed against three hundred other young shooters in the U.S. Open Youth Trap Shooting Nationals, held last week in Las Vegas, ranking highly among the teams and bringing home trophies in several individual categories.
The Championship is an annual competition that includes the disciplines of skeet, sporting clays, and trap and is an opportunity for youth shooting teams and individuals to compete at a national event with competitors from around the country.
Despite the temperature in Las Vegas hitting triple-digits by 9:00a.m., the Lassen team came to compete and represent. The first ever Lassen Grizzly Junior Intermediate Entry team brought home first place with a two-day score of 845.

Team Captain Lucas Steward brought home fifth place high individual IE score, while teammate Jake Robinson busted just a couple more targets to secure the fourth-place spot.
The Varsity team finished in fourth place with a team score of 913, just 7 targets out of 3rd place.
“Great job to both the Varsity and Junior teams, all shooters that competed did great and made Lassen proud,” says Jenny Robinson. “Huge thank you to all of the sponsors, for the team and individual shooters, parents and hard-working community members who have helped out and supported these teams along the way. We appreciate you greatly!”

Help the Salvation Army Stuff
the Bus Tomorrow at Walmart
The return to school is just around the corner and some local students are going to need a little extra help when it comes to buying the necessities for the upcoming school year.
The Susanville Salvation Army’s Stuff the Bus event, being held at Walmart tomorrow, July 27th, aims to make things easier for students and their parents.
Through the Stuff the Bus program, the Salvation Army provides around 150 local students with things like backpacks, pencils, protractors, rulers, glue sticks and craft supplies.
| |
|
The cardboard “bus” with the school supply lists is up in Walmart. You can drop donations off at the Salvation Army’s Susanville office, 1560 Main Street, in the Grocery Outlet Center, behind Chevron) or at Anytime Fitness.
Stop by Walmart July 27th, between 10:00a.m. and 2:00p.m., and enjoy a bag of popcorn while you are shopping courtesy of the Salvation Army. You are encouraged to purchase school supplies to donate to the program.
The Susanville Salvation Army is always looking for monetary donations so that they can supplement their donations, or you can call their office at 530.257.0314 and ask what they need.

PG&E Urges Caution this Weekend
on North Fork of the Feather River
Pacific Gas and Electric is urging recreational users to take extra safety precautions as water flows will be higher through the weekend of July 27th and 28th on a portion of the North Fork Feather River.
According to the utility, during the higher flows, this part of the river contains Class III, IV and V rapids, which are only appropriate for skilled paddlers, and not appropriate for tubing.
The Rock Creek Reach is the 8.3-mile portion of the North Fork of the Feather River in the Plumas National Forest, between Rock Creek Dam and the Rock Creek Powerhouse near Storrie.
| |
|
By 9:00a.m., tomorrow, July 27th, flows will be increased to 1,100 cubic feet-per-second (cfs) before starting to reduce at 3:00p.m. to 900 cfs. On Sunday, June 30th, flows will be at 900 cfs until 2:00p.m. when flows will be gradually reduced to the season normal of approximately 400 cfs.
Additional recreational flows are scheduled for the weekends of August 24th and 25th and September 28th and 29th.
The recreational flows are conducted in cooperation with the American Whitewater organization and the Rock Creek–Cresta Ecological Resource Committee and are usually held four weekends a year in June, July, August and September.
PG&E offers the following water safety tips:
Stay out of cold water. Sudden immersion in cold water can stimulate the “gasp reflex,” causing an involuntary inhalation of air or water. It can even trigger cardiac arrest, temporary paralysis, hypothermia and drowning. When faced with swift water, even the strongest swimmers may be easily overwhelmed.
Many unseen obstacles can be lurking below the water’s surface. Swift water can make these obstacles even more treacherous. Guided trips for inexperienced paddlers are strongly recommended.
Recreating in PG&E canals and flumes is strictly prohibited. Stay out of canals and flumes, which are very dangerous due to slippery sides, sub-surface obstacles, fast moving water, and transitions to full tunnels and pipes. For more water safety tips visit: www.pge.com/hydrosafety

Susanville Elks to Entertain with Gambling Games
July 26, 1926
The Susanville Lodge of Elks will have charge of the ’49 camp during the Legion convention here, August 16th to 20th, following a joint meeting of representatives of the two organizations.
The local ballpark will be built into an old-time camp and roulette wheels, sideshows and other concessions will be built.
There will be money for all but it will be of the “bull” coin variety and those participating will use an anonymous currency which is being printed and which will be sold for the real cash, to get around anti-gambling laws.
