Moonlight Madness Golf Tournament Coming to Diamond Mountain Golf Course

Golfers and community members are invited to hit the links for a unique cause this summer! The staff of McKinley, Meadow View, and Diamond View schools are hosting the Moonlight Madness Golf Tournament on Friday, August 28th, at the Diamond Mountain Golf Course.

This exciting event offers a fun twist on the classic game, featuring nine holes played in the daylight, a break for dinner, and nine holes played under the moonlight. The action kicks off with a shotgun start at 5:00p.m. Entry is $500 per four-man team, which includes dinner as well as glow-in-the-dark golf balls. Participants are asked to bring two flashlights per team to help light the way once night falls.

All proceeds directly benefit students in the Susanville School District across McKinley, Meadow View, and Diamond View schools. Funds raised will go toward student incentive programs, scholarships and providing essential items like shoes, clothing and school supplies for local students in need.

Local businesses and community partners can also get involved by becoming a Hole Sponsor for $200. Sponsors will receive prominent signage at the tournament and recognition across social media before, during, and after the event. Additional donations and prize contributions are also greatly appreciated.

To register a team, sign up directly at the Diamond Mountain Golf Course clubhouse or contact Cyndy Martin by email at cmartin@susanvillesd.org or by phone at 1.530.310.2366.

LMUD Invites Comments and
Questions at ‘Coffee with the GM’

Lassen Municipal Utility District is inviting community members to pull up a chair and start their morning with a conversation next Monday morning, August 3rd, when LMUD General Manager Nick Dominguez will host the fifth in a series of the district’s “Coffee with the GM” events at the Blue Ox Bistro in Uptown Susanville.

The get-together, which runs from 7:00 to 8:00a.m., offers LMUD customers a casual environment to enjoy coffee and pastries while discussing the future of publicly-owned power.

Dominguez, who has served as LMUD’s General Manager since January of 2025, and before that was both IT and Business Manager, sees this as a vital step in maintaining transparency and community connection.

“This informal gathering is a chance to ask questions, share ideas, and learn more about how we serve our community,” says Dominguez.

Building a Stronger Community

The initiative is part of LMUD’s ongoing commitment to its founding 1986 vision: providing safe, reliable, and reasonably priced power. Dominguez emphasizes that public participation is key to the district’s success.

“Your engagement makes us stronger,” Dominguez noted. “I invite you to join us as we work together to protect our community’s energy future.”

This is the second in a series of community conversations. For those unable to attend on Monday, future dates and locations will be posted at lmud.org and on the district’s social media channels.

Questions? For more information, contact Theresa Phillips, Public Relations Manager, at 1.530.257.6944.

Sheriff’s Office to Hold Public Meeting to Discuss Military Equipment Use Policy

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office will hold a special public meeting August 13th, to give members of the public a chance to ask questions and learn more about “military” equipment in use by the agency.

On January 1st, 2022, Ab 481 became law, adding Government Code sections 7070 et. Seq. This law mandates the establishment of an Ordinance requiring all California law enforcement agencies to develop a policy, provide a list of equipment and obtain approval of their governing body, prior to requesting, seeking, or using “military” equipment, either permanently or temporarily.

sheriffupdate image

It also requires the law enforcement agency to conduct a public meeting where members of the public have an opportunity to review the policy, learn about the equipment, and ask questions about the equipment and it’s use.

The August 13th, meeting being held at 3:00p.m., at the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, will provide this opportunity to the public.

The equipment described in this policy is utilized on a regular basis to protect deputies, and members of the public on patrol and in the County Jail. If you would like to learn about this equipment or have input, please consider attending this public meeting.
