On June 8th, Assemblywoman Megan Dahle recognized Bright Futures for Youth with the Annual Nonprofit of the Year Award for the 1st Assembly District. Bright Futures for Youth offers year-round academic, social and emotional support to several hundred children and young adults every year in Nevada County.

“I am pleased to award Bright Futures for Youth with the 1st Assembly District Nonprofit of the Year Award for 2022,” said Dahle. “After the last two years especially, parents and children desperately need support and resources like those offered by Bright Futures for Youth. This organization has decades of experience supporting youth in their formative years, when they need it most. They are a true community asset.”

“We’re very proud of our accomplishments and being recognized by Assemblywoman Dahle for our multilayered, never-ending efforts to help youth in the area,” said Jennifer Singer, Executive Director of Bright Futures for Youth.

“Our program has changed and grown dramatically during the past two decades, because the needs are different and much greater than in the past. With the ongoing support of the community, including from leaders like Assemblywoman Dahle, we are helping children and young adults to succeed.”

From after-school programs and summer camps to access to health care, counseling and healthy meals, Bright Futures for Youth is connecting and developing relationships with youth.

The American Legion Thomas Tucker Post No. 204 Honor Guard, will fire three volleys and play Taps to conclude the program.

P.H. Willis, pastor of the Sparks Methodist church, returned from Susanville last night, where he has been attending the convention of the state Epworth league as a Sparks delegate. There was an excellent attendance and much benefit was derived from the convention.

Rev. Willis says that the rains of the past few weeks have proved satisfactory to the farmers of the counties in that district and that, no alfalfa having been cut, the rains of the past few days will not affect the splendid crops.

The T. B. Walker company is building a temporary sawmill at Mountain Meadows with the future intention of building a large mill at Susanville. The firm controls more than 200,000 acres of timber land in Plumas, Lassen and Shasta counties. It is stated on good authority that there is enough timber in these districts to employ hundreds of men for the next 50 years.

The Southern Pacific railroad has completed the new Lassen and Fernley branch and is confident that the future of Susanville and other towns will pay the company for the large amount of money expended.

It is said that the Walker Timber company has guaranteed the railroad 50 cars of lumber per day.
