Classic Cars and Cruisin’ Fun Highlight This Weekend’s Main Cruise

Have a rockin’ good time tonight and tomorrow, at the annual Lassen County Chamber of Commerce Main Street Cruise. Along with the Classic Car Show N’ Shine on Saturday, the event will feature a special kick-off party tonight at the Diamond Mountain Casino, plus kids activities, live performances, food and craft vendors and music from that really awesome band Forgery.

“We are looking forward to this evening’s meet and greet, a pre car show at Diamond Mountain Casino and Hotel from 5:00 to 8:00,” said Chamber Executive Director Kelly Ackley.

“We have about twenty confirmed car participants for Friday. They have Northern California Cancer Advocates catering for food, the Long Drink rep along with a no host bar, and a local DJ.”

Saturday’s Main Cruise Classic Car Show N’ Shine will be held in Memorial Park from 11:00 to 4:00p.m. Admission to the event is, as always, absolutely free.

“We have more than 50 cars coming from near and far. We will still be accepting car entries on the day of the event.”

“There are several food vendors; Arieli’s Tacos, and Mini Benniz to name a couple, there will also be vendors serving sno cones, rootbeer floats, cotton candy and popcorn and more!”

“We will have a beer garden for adults 21 and over and a variety of craft vendors will be joining us.”

Dancers from Dance Elevation Studio in uptown will be performing throughout the day.

Awards will be announced at 3:00 and the show will conclude at 4:00 with the highly anticipated Main Street Cruise to follow.

PG&E’s Mobile Help Center in Greenville Tuesday for Dixie Fire Victims
Pacific Gas and Electric Company is hosting a mobile customer help center next Tuesday in Greenville, where customers can get in-person answers to questions about obtaining power while rebuilding structures after the Dixie Fire.

The mobile help center will be at Greenville Junior-Senior High School’s parking lot along Crescent Street on June 28th from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m., weather permitting.

Staff can answer questions and provide information on re-establishing energy services for rebuilt homes and businesses.
PG&E representatives can walk customers through the process of getting temporary and permanent power, as well as ask questions about tree removals.

PG&E urges customers to apply for electric service after obtaining building permits from the county building departments when rebuilding or needing temporary power at a property.

Applying for electric service is not part of the county’s application process nor is it automatic.

For eligible customers impacted by a wildfire, PG&E will connect and disconnect temporary electric service at no cost until a permanent electric meter is installed.

Customers impacted by wildfires who are going to rebuild or have questions are urged to contact PG&E early and apply for temporary power by visiting www.pge.com/cco or email rebuild@pge.com.

Lassenite Plays For Junior Title
June 24, 1950

Lynn Barry, daughter of Attorney and Mrs. Hardin Barry of Susanville, will play in a tennis tournament in Mill Valley July 15 for the California State Junior championship, for the players under 18 years of age. The winner will be eligible to enter national contests, and may eventually play in Europe.

As a participant from the Dominican Convent in San Rafael, where she attended high school. Lynn played in tournaments among private schools in the bay area. As one of two top players in the bay area finals she was eligible to play in the Northern California Girls’ Interscholastic Tennis Association tournaments this spring. She reached the finals of this tournament also.

Among her other tennis honors was first place in the San Francisco City tournament in Golden Gate park.

Born in Susanville, Lynn attended grammar school through the eighth grade here; she then went to San Rafael as a high school freshman, and it was there that she learned to play tennis. She was graduated from the Dominican Convent this spring, and plans to enter the University of California Berkley in September.

Handicapped by a late start, Lynn is expected to perfect her tennis technique in the next few years. In tournaments played previously, her natural ability has been pitted against the many years of experience of girls who have played since early childhood.
