Susanville Swing Band Performs This Saturday at the Elk’s Lodge
This Saturday, for one night only, the Susanville Swing Band will bring the sounds of the 1920s, 30s and 40s to the Susanville Elks Lodge for your dancing and listening pleasure! The Symphony Society’s yearly tribute to big band, swing and pop music features talented local musicians performing in what has become a much-loved annual tradition.

From Frank Sinatra to Glen Miller Symphony Artistic Director Ben Wade promises something for everybody, young and old.

“For over a decade we have been bringing the swing era to the good people of Susanville,” says Wade. “A big shoutout to Matt Mullin for making this concert so revered. The legacy that he leaves for all of our concert goers is very much appreciated.”
Mullin directed the Swing Band for the first decade, pioneering the charts for those to follow.

“Matt now plays 4th trombone, ala tuba, in the brass section of the band,” Wade explains.

The swing concert is always a lot of fun and Wade invites everyone to come experience a live big band on a real dance floor. The bar will open at 6:00 and the music starts at 7:00p.m.

Tickets are $30 for preferred seating and $22 for general seating and are available for sale at Axia Home Loans and Margie’s Book Nook.

High-Speed CHP Pursuit on 395 Ends in Nevada with Arrest of Stockton Man
A Stockton man was arrested March 5th, just across the state line in Nevada after leading CHP officers on a pursuit that began on Highway 395 near Janesville and reached speeds up to 120mph.

At around 9:15p.m., Saturday, according to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, a CHP patrol unit encountered a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on US-395 in the community of Janesville.

“The officer turned and attempted to make an enforcement stop on the vehicle,” explains CHP Public Information Officer Bruce Thuelchassaigne. “The driver failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued.”
The vehicle increased in speed to approximately 120mph and continued southbound.

A CHP unit from Portola deployed the spike strip near Red Rock Road but the driver continued on 395 at high speeds into Nevada, eventually yielding to law enforcement as he neared Peavine Summit.

CHP officers took the driver into custody shortly before Washoe County Sheriff and Nevada Highway Patrol personnel arrived on scene, identifying him as 29-year old Stockton resident Jovan Joseph Minor.

He was booked at the Washoe County Jail on additional charges discovered by Washoe County deputies. CHP will file fleeing charges with the Lassen County District Attorney.

According to the CHP report the pursuit covered 58 miles and was accomplished in approximately 29 minutes. There were no injuries to law enforcement personnel or the suspect and no damage to CHP or suspect vehicles. A passing motorist sustained flat tires when their vehicle struck the spike strip.
Chamber of Commerce Gearing Up for 2022 Spring Home and Garden Show
The Lassen County Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for one of Susanville’s sure signs of spring – the annual Home, Garden and Outdoor Recreation Show to be held April 30th at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. The day-long event features fun for do-it-yourselfers, gardeners, lovers of the great outdoors and even a wedding showcase!

The Chamber still has room for those home, garden or outdoor recreation businesses who have something interesting or unique to offer visitors to the show. The remaining booth space is limited and registration is on a first come, first served basis.
The Home, Garden and Recreation Show, held each year at the end of April, is designed to help generate sales revenue for participating businesses, gain exposure for local services and products and attract visitors and tourists to the community. With an average attendance of 1,500 people this event is an inexpensive way to advertise your business and showcase your product or service.

Would your business like to take part in the fun?

The cost to participate in the event is $25 for a (10′ x 10′) booth space.

One table and two chairs will be supplied for the event, and the set-up will begin on Friday, April 29th from 12:00 to 4:00p.m.

Pre-built School To Be Considered
March 18, 1946

Lassen county may have its first prebuilt schoolhouse by next fall. This is being seriously investigated by the Doyle school board. Under consideration is a two-room building with kitchen and laboratories, of frame construction, one story high.

The prebuilt school attracts the board there because it could be in use by the fall.

It is less costly than the conventional style, even if labor and materials could be obtained. Johnstonville and Bieber are also considering new schools.
