LHS Receives Threat Related

to Nationwide Bomb Hoax

The Susanville Police Department has confirmed that Lassen High School received an anonymous bomb threat by email Wednesday, as did numerous schools across the country.

“Susanville Police Department began investigating the matter and contacted the FBI in that effort,” explains SPD Detective Richard Warner.

“The FBI is aware of the threat and advised that the same message was sent to other institutions across the nation.”

policethreats image

According to the department the message in the threat is similar to a wave of hoax threats that occurred in 2023 and at this time it does not appear to be a credible threat.

“Nevertheless, the Susanville Police Department and Lassen High School are not dismissing the message and encourage our citizens to remain vigilant to suspicious persons or activity.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Detective Warner at 1.530.257.5603.

2nd Annual High School Career

Workshop Scheduled for April 8th

5th District Lassen County Supervisor Jason Ingram will be hosting a special Career Opportunities Workshop on April 8th, with a goal of helping local youth better understand the opportunities available here in Lassen County.

This is the second year for the event, which is free to employers, and Ingram will personally set up booths for any employer who is interested in participating. Last year he had more than thirty-five employers and vendors, this year he wants to bring in more than 50.

“I will be providing breakfast and lunch for all of the employers and vendors,” explains Ingram. “The goal of this event is to raise awareness to our youth that there are Career Opportunities right here in Lassen County!”

careerworkshop2024 image

Ingram’s concept is simple and straightforward.

“If we can hire our youth to help fill the job vacancies within the city and county it will be a win-win for everyone! It’s no secret one of our greatest exports is our youth, and I want to break that cycle.”

Ingram added that investing in our youth, in his opinion, is the same as investing in Lassen County’s future.

The workshop will be held at Lassen High School, 1110 Main Street, from 9:00a.m. until 2:45p.m. For more information call Supervisor Ingram at 1.530.249.6431.

Fish Count Set for Eagle Lake

March 1, 1950

Pine Creek is soon to have a weir installed to allow a census of Eagle Lake fish, it was learned here Thursday. Two biologists from the bureau of fish conservation, division of fish and game, were in the county Wednesday and Thursday to check the flow of water from Pine Creek to eagle Lake.

Harry A. Hansen, district fisheries biologist, and Harry P. Chandler, his assistant, found that the flow which usually starts late in March is already running because of the unseasonably warm weather.

They made the inspection in line with the installation of a weir, or check dam, which is scheduled to go in this season. The purpose of the dam will be to allow a count on the number of fish traveling upstream or coming back downstream. The weir has already been approved and will be installed this season if conditions allow. Otherwise, it will go in next season.

The dam consists of a heavy ‘screen’ or perforated structure across the stream which allows water but no fish to go through. At each end of the dam there is a trap with a one-way entry for fish traveling in the stream; one for those going upstream, and the other for those going downstream.

As soon as enough fish accumulate in the trap, it is raised, the fish are counted, and then the trap is lowered, and a door opens so that the fish can go on their way untouched.

The bureau of fish conservation has registered a protest taking of water from Eagle Lake for irrigation.
