Two Cited for Violations as Police Department and ABC Conduct Minor Decoy Operation
|
The Susanville Police Department cited two people on April 28th, for furnishing alcoholic beverages to minors as part of an enforcement operation conducted by the Susanville Police Department and the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
According to Police Chief Ryan Cochran, the department conducted a Decoy Shoulder Tap Operation which targets adults who purchase alcohol for people under twenty-one years of age.
|
|
|
“Under the program,” explains Cochran, “a minor under the direct supervision of a peace officer will stand outside a business and ask patrons to buy them alcohol. The minor indicates in some way he or she is underage and cannot purchase the alcohol.”
“We would like to thank the twenty-three other citizens who were contacted during this operation and did not purchase alcohol for the decoys. The Susanville Police Department would like to thank the decoys in this operation who volunteered their time and the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.”
This operation was made possible by a grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Be Prepared: Cal-Fire Uses “Wildfire Preparedness Week” To Spread Message
|
California’s Wildfire Preparedness Week is May 1st through 7th, and Cal-FIRE and its partner agencies are spending the week raising awareness on what individuals and communities can do to help protect themselves against the threat of wildfires. Being proactive and prepared for wildfire is crucial for all Californians in making their communities more resilient to the impacts of wildfire.
Almost half of the state’s largest and most damaging wildfires occurred in 2020 and 2021, and more than 6.8 million acres burned during this time. Lack of rainfall, with above normal temperatures through the spring, will leave fuel moisture levels lower than normal, increasing the potential for wildland fire activity.
|
|
|
In 2022, CAL FIRE has already responded to more than 1,400 wildfires, burning more than 6,500 acres on state and federal lands combined.
“California continues to experience longer wildfire seasons as a direct result of climate change,” said Joe Tyler, Cal-FIRE Director/Chief. “Minimal rainfall is expected throughout the spring, leaving most of the state in moderate to extreme drought conditions prior to summer.”
This year, Governor Newsom’s proposed budget for CAL FIRE allocates more than $3 billion for fire management, fire prevention, mitigation efforts including prescribed fire and fuel breaks, forest health, and home hardening.
Californians also have an important role in preparing for and preventing wildfires. Thousands of communities depend on smart planning and prevention tools like protective fuel breaks, defensible space, and home hardening for their safety and survival. These tools work together to build more fire-resilient communities.
By preparing well in advance of a wildfire and taking steps now to reduce wildfire risks, you can dramatically increase your safety, the safety of your community, and the survivability of your home.
To learn more about wildfire safety and preparedness, visit www.ReadyForWildfire.org. Additionally, Cal-FIRE continues to encourage Californians to access the “Ready for Wildfire” web-based app that includes local alerts, checklists for preparedness, evacuation plans, and other kits. $1,500 More Needed To Complete Pool In Susanville
May 2, 1937
Frank C. O’Kelly, who is in charge of the local swimming pool project, announced today that the pool fund of $5,000 is exhausted and approximately $1500 more is needed to complete the pool so that it may be open for the public on June 15.
Due to the fact that the WPA has invested $17,000 and the elementary school district $5,000, he said, it is now up to the service clubs to furnish enough money to keep the ball rolling until July 1, when the school board will apportion more funds for this project.
Monday evening the Business and Professional Women’s club agreed to sell $100 worth of season swimming tickets to the public. The 20-30 club and the Rotary club will also agree to do their share to contribute to this fund.
Professor Frank S. Cralle, vice president of the Susanville elementary school and in charge of the Roosevelt school where the pool is located, will be the pool manager. The pool if 45 feet wide, 105 feet long, with a depth of nine and one half feet at one end. Springboards and all swimming equipment will be ready for the opening June 15 if the necessary funds are raised.
The pool is equipped with underwater lighting.
The pool representatives from each service club will attend a meeting of the school board Thursday night when process of season tickets, individual swim prices, types of swimming suits and other topics will be discussed.
