Lassen Pranks Damage Property

November 2, 1945

Much damage to public and private property was caused by Halloween pranksters of teen age Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Getting a jump on the season and in spite of the copious downpour, gangs of boys Tuesday night wrecked a parking sign for the Purity Market; pulled down half a dozen street signs, which are now almost impossible to replace, and smashed the public bulletin board in front of the Lassen Advocate office.

The most serious offense, however, was turning in three false fire alarms, causing a truck to run each time.

Wednesday night extra patrols were put on by the highway patrol, sheriff’s office and the city police.

One arrest was made. LeRoy Cook, 19, of Doyle, was held for dragging 60 feet of fence wire down Main street at 40 miles an hour, according to the sheriff’s office.

He pleaded guilty before Justice Seymour Case and paid a $10 fine.
