Lassen Municipal Utility District

Announces Departure of General Manager

On Wednesday, Lassen Municipal Utility District announced that General Manager Robby Hamlin will step down from the position effective December 4th. According to LMUD Public Relations Manager Theresa Phillips, Hamlin informed the LMUD Board of Directors of his decision during a closed-session meeting on Tuesday, October 1st.

“Hamlin, who assumed the role of General Manager in January 2024, has been instrumental in developing forward-looking strategies for the district, including initiatives for rate stabilization, financial metrics improvement, and power procurement optimization,” said Phillips.

“Robby brought a wealth of experience to the GM position. His expertise and leadership have been invaluable to LMUD. He is highly respected and well-liked by both the board of directors and the LMUD staff. We are saddened to see him go but wish him the best in the next phase of his career,” said Daren Hagata, LMUD Board President, expressing the board’s sentiments.

Hamlin commented, “My time with LMUD has been incredibly rewarding. The dedication of our staff and the support of the community have been outstanding. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together.” He added, “I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition for my successor in the coming weeks. LMUD’s mission is vital to our community, and I’m confident that the strong foundation we’ve built will continue to serve the district well into the future.”

According to Phillips the LMUD Board of Directors will soon begin the process of selecting a new General Manager. Details regarding the search and selection process will be announced in the coming weeks.

Traffic Survey Ahead: Lassen National

Forest Wants District Visitors’ Input

The National Visitor Use Monitoring survey is being conducted on the Lassen National Forest this fiscal year. Contract employees began work this month and will continue this nationwide visitor use survey through September 30, 2025.

During this survey period, the public will encounter contract employees working on the Lassen National Forest in developed and dispersed recreation sites and along forest service roads. These workers will be out in all types of weather conditions, wearing bright orange vests and be near a sign that says, “Traffic Survey Ahead.”

forestserviceupdate image

The information gathered from this nationwide survey is useful for forest planning as well as local community tourism planning. It provides National Forest managers with an estimate of how many people actually recreate on their National Forest, what activities they engage in while there and how satisfied people were with their visit. Economic impact to the local economy is also captured in the survey.

The survey gathers basic visitor information. If you participate in these surveys, they are voluntary, and all responses are confidential; names are not included.

Interviews last about 10 minutes. Questions asked include where you recreated on the Forest, how many people traveled with you, how long you were on the Forest, what other recreation sites you visited while on the Forest, and how satisfied you are with the facilities and services provided. About a third of the visitors will be asked to complete a confidential survey on recreation spending during their trip.

“Although the survey is entirely voluntary, participation is extremely important so we can assess visitor experiences on the Forest and strive to make it a better place to visit,” said Janie Ackley, Forest Recreation Program Manager on the Lassen National Forest.

“We would appreciate it if visitors would pull over and answer a few questions. It’s important for interviewers to talk with local people using the forest, as well as out-of-area visitors, so all types of visitors are represented in the study.”

Information about the National Visitor Use Monitoring program can be found at https://www.fs.usda.gov/about-agency/nvum.

Endurance is Aim of Test to Come Here

October 21, 1934

Something new in the way of automobile tests is being promised to Susanville residents by R. Q. Deal, local auto dealer, when the ‘Ruggedness Run,’ being sponsored by the Hudson Terraplane people “comes to town.”

The “Ruggedness Run” is designed primarily as an advertising medium to convince the public of the durability of the car selected to make the driving test.

Approximately one year’s average mileage is put on the car in the space of two weeks and the driving is done over rough roads and routes ordinarily avoided.

The exact date of the machine’s arrival in Susanville has not been released as yet.
