Adopt A Pet from the Lassen

County Animal Shelter – Lilith

The Lassen County Animal Shelter is excited to announce that as of the end of this week we’ve reached 152 adoptions this year! This means that we’ve surpassed the amount of adoptions we did last year. We’ll continue to remain strong and march forward into the last quarter of 2024, but we need the public’s help to keep showing up for these amazing animals and providing loving homes. You’ve been blowing us away.

This week our feature is Lilith.

This girl is all husky, through and through. She’s petite, athletic, talkative, and so very active. Lilith loves hanging out on top of the agility equipment in the play yard and playing with her doggy friends all day. She’s already watched a few of her shelter buddies get adopted; now its her turn to shine! Lilith is dog friendly and would make a fabulous addition to any husky pack. However, her perfect home needs to be cat free. Like many huskies, Lilith has a high prey drive and her relationship with cats is not friendly.

Lilith is spayed, UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm negative. If interested in learning more about Lilith, or other adoptable animals at the shelter, please contact staff at (530) 257-9200. Should there be dogs already in a prospective adopters home, please bring them along for a meet and greet to ensure a good fit.

Featured animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter are available for adoption on a first-come-first-serve basis. According to California law, all adoptable dogs and cats must be spayed and neutered before leaving our facility. If interested in adopting an animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Current shelter hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday. You can contact the shelter at 530.257.9200.

Log Decks at Paul Bunyan Lumber Co., 1948 ~ From the Eastman Collection at UC Davis

Logging Firms Stack Up Timber

September 30, 1949

A total of 32 1/2 million feet of logs is on hand in the three Susanville lumber mills, with all of them planning to keep up logging operations until snow drives them out of the mountains.

Paul Bunyan Lumber Co. has 3 ½ million feet; Lassen Lumber and Box Co., nine million, and Fruit Growers Supply Co has in excess of 20 million feet of logs decked and in the pond.

The Westwood Fruit Growers Supply Co. has about 30 million feet of logs now on hand, bringing the total in this area to 62 ½ million feet.

Susanville Logging co. mill has closed for the season. Although logging is still going on at Worley Mountain, the mill is not scheduled to reopen until spring.

A night shift has started in the box factory and planing mill of the Westwood Fruit Growers operation last week. The sawmill night shift was laid off the previous Friday night.

The reduction of workers in the one department was just about absorbed by the beginning of the other, according to C. H. Vincent, resident manager. About 75 men were involved.

The company and two private logging contractors, Bartle and Lindsey are scheduled to continue logging thought the end of November, according to Mr. Vincent.

Two other private contractors wound up operations this week.
