A Message from Our Principals

Dear Webb Middle School Families,

As winter makes its frosty appearance, it’s crucial to emphasize the importance of maintaining strong attendance for our students. Just like each snowflake contributes to the beauty of winter, every day of school attendance plays a vital role in our students’ academic success.

☀️ Snowballing Success Through Attendance:

Consistent attendance is the key to unlocking academic achievement. Just as a snowball grows in size as it rolls downhill, so does the knowledge and skills our students accumulate when they attend school regularly. The more days they are present, the more they can engage with the curriculum and build a solid educational foundation.

❄️ Avoiding the Winter Blues:

While winter may bring colder temperatures and shorter days, it shouldn’t cast a chill on our commitment to learning. Regular attendance ensures that students remain connected with their teachers, classmates, and the learning environment, fostering a sense of warmth and community even in the coldest months.

⛄️ Building Resilience:

Just as snow covers the ground, challenges are a natural part of the educational journey. Attending school regularly helps students develop resilience and adaptability, essential qualities that will serve them well in facing the inevitable challenges that lie ahead.

👥 Teamwork Makes the Dream Work:

Winter is a season for teamwork, and the same holds true for the school community. When students attend consistently, they contribute to a positive and collaborative learning environment, fostering a spirit of togetherness.

Thank you for your continued support in reinforcing the importance of strong attendance during the winter months. Together, we can ensure that our students thrive academically and embrace the season of learning with enthusiasm.

Wishing you all a joyful and successful winter season!

Greetings from the classrooms of Mrs. Reynolds!

During this first quarter of the year and beyond, Mrs. Reynolds's language arts classes have been quite busy! To date, we have covered an extensive unit focusing on O.Henry, his use of ironic plot twists, and the plotline of short stories. Then, using our knowledge of the plot diagram, students read an independent fiction novel and created/shared their own plot diagrams by using Canva, creating a comic strip, or drawing a poster. Additionally, students read a fun play, "The Mystery of the Suffocated Seventh Grader," and we discussed the power a rumor has. Also, we reviewed and learned additional information concerning sentence structures and sentence parts, and of course, we continue to put this knowledge to good use each time we write sentences, short responses, and soon... an essay! Currently, students are reading poems and short stories written by "The Master of the Macabre," Edgar Allan Poe. After Thanksgiving break we will wrap up our Poe unit with an escape room centered around his most famous short story, "The Tell-Tale Heart." Then, we will make our way into writing a full-length essay about the various roles each of us plays in our daily lives. A reminder, too: students should be reading their second fiction book at home, as their next project, a "Book at a Glance" board, is due January 16. Details for this project, as well as weekly plans, can be found in my Google Classroom stream, which is updated each Monday. So far, I think we are off to a fabulous start!

Math Matters

Thirty Webb Middle School students attended the annual Math Matters competition at Chula Vista. There were close to 500 students among the 87 teams participating in grades 5-8. We are so proud of all our Reedsburg participants.

A special congratulations goes out to Andi Mears and her second-place finish in the 6th-grade individual competition and Lincoln Benish for his third place as an 8th-grade individual. 7th grade teams stole the team competition, taking both 1st place and 2nd place!

Team members included-Bryon Diekfuss, Beckett Kucher, Benjamin Miller, Kaylee Petersen, Claire Siedschlag, Mackenzie Avis, Savannah Dorn, Jensen Due, Aria Gada, Madalynn Hooker, Gunner Fulk, Korbin Wells, Fletcher Kurth, William Olson, Mackenzie Murray, Ames Moeller, Kailee Trevorrow, Gunner Lutter, Josh Thering, Mattea Gjorgjiev, Jayden Schrank, Nicole Schafer, Lucius Wells, Sam Bauer, Trent Chaffee, Aiden Berg, Hal LeMaster, Lucy Klemp, Tanner Kowalke, and Sydney Olson.

Congratulations to all!

Serving Up a Writing Project

In early November, students in Ms. Bolton's Language class worked on a recipe writing project. They spent a week’s worth of hard work, using their creativity to design their own unique tri-fold boards, which included ingredients and instructions of the recipe they researched.

At the end of the week, the students prepared speeches for their presentations, which were shared with fellow staff members here at Webb.

The “cherry on top” of this project? They brought in samples of their chosen, allowing teachers and other classmates to try!

It was a total success, and all students were very much engaged throughout the whole experience.

I’m super proud of the effort they put into this project. It was really cool to see how involved and excited they were to share their hard work with others. A special shoutout is in order for these awesome 6th graders.

CUPCAKE WARS CHALLENGE!

Life Skills students have been involved in some pretty stiff competition lately…a baking competition, that is. During Cupcake Wars, students were asked to promote their new bakery business that specializes in creating creative cupcakes. Each team was asked to design a unique and flavorful cupcake to present to the judges. Scores were based on flavor, texture, appearance, and student presentation. Students had fun designing, marketing, baking, sampling, and serving one-of-a-kind cupcakes to the judges here at Webb.

Dear Families,

We have partnered with CharacterStrong – an organization that provides training for educators and curricula for students. Their work focuses on three main outcomes: increasing a sense of belonging for all students, improving skills that support student well-being, and deepening student engagement in their academics, in their school, and in their community.

This curriculum was created to support school communities as they engage in the work of preparing young people to thrive in the 21st century. The lessons focus on developing skills and mindsets around building positive habits, understanding our emotions, improving teamwork, and increasing empathy.

One of the key parts of nearly every lesson is the “Character Dare.” These are invitations near the end of most lessons to put the content that they are learning into action in the real world. Ask your student about the most recent Character Dare.

We will also be inviting families to try the “Family Dare” each month.

This month’s FAMILY DARE is Record of Accomplishments

As a family, write down all that you have accomplished together over the last year. Decide on a creative way to capture all of these accomplishments.

Use photos that you’ve printed, documents that you’ve saved, or pictures on your phone as a way to jog your memory. Maybe you want to create something to hang in your home or to send out to family members. Perhaps you prefer to create something digital to share online. Take some time to celebrate and be grateful for the good you’ve gone through.

Demonstrate Your Love -

Sometimes it is difficult to find time in our busy lives to do things like go to a recital or concert or spectate a sporting event, especially around the holidays. However, each time we do these types of things, it sends a message to our children about how important they are to us. Showing support for their interests or creating opportunities to spend time with our children in a meaningful way can strengthen the bonds we have within our families. If our family relationships are strong, we can more successfully deal with the struggles of life at any time of the year.
