Dear Webb Middle School Families,
As we step into the new year, we find ourselves at the culmination of an exciting and rewarding first semester. It's with pride and enthusiasm that we share the achievements of our students and the incredible efforts put forth by our dedicated staff. We've seen tremendous growth, both academically and personally, and we want to celebrate the accomplishments of each and every student.
Semester Ends: January 19th
The first semester is coming to a close on January 19th, and it's an opportune time to reflect on the hard work and determination exhibited by our students throughout these past months. From engaging classroom discussions to collaborative projects, our students have demonstrated a commitment to their education that is truly commendable.
Finishing Strong in Academics
We applaud our students for their academic achievements during the first semester. Many have shown remarkable progress, not only in mastering essential content but also in developing critical thinking skills and a love for learning. As we approach the end of this semester, we encourage students to complete any outstanding assignments, seek additional support if needed, and take pride in their accomplishments.
Parents, your support has been instrumental in fostering a positive and conducive learning environment at home. Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education journey. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's academic progress, please don't hesitate to reach out to our teaching staff.
Celebrating Attendance Success
Attendance plays a crucial role in a student's overall success, and we are thrilled to acknowledge the high attendance rates we've observed this semester. Regular attendance not only contributes to academic achievement but also helps students build a strong foundation for their future endeavors. Let's continue to prioritize punctuality and attendance as we move into the second semester.

There is “Gnome” place like Reedsburg
Mrs. Riberich’s 6th grade PRIDE group made gnomes to share with the residents at Our House Senior Living in Reedsburg.
The students worked together on this community service project to make gnomes for the residents to help brighten their holidays. The students enjoyed using a variety of colors, so there would be many options for the residents to choose from.

Memorable Moment Writings
Every year, early in the school year, I attempt to show students the power and satisfaction of writing, which is becoming increasingly difficult as we now enter the world of artificial intelligence in which students, in a matter of seconds, can have a computer create a story for them without the students having to put any thought behind it. In an effort to teach students to trust their own voice rather than a computer algorithm, I model for them how to create suspense in a story that is uniquely their own. I call this assignment my Memorable Moment Assignment, which requires each student to select a moment from their life that stands out to them and to then follow the patterns of suspense I illustrate through a story of my own. The following are a few of the stories students created this year from this assignment. Enjoy.

7th & 8th Grade Math Students
Building Thinking Classrooms
Seventh and Eighth grade math students are part of “Building Thinking Classrooms”. Students are given thinking tasks that challenge them to find the solution. Students have discovered that working in a group, with multiple partners at the vertical whiteboards, allows for more success. Mrs. Seep, Mrs. Penkwitz, and Mrs. Rocha watch students who might be reluctant to begin a problem on their own step out of their comfort zone and find success in their groups. Walking into a “Building Thinking Classroom” looks and sounds different. Students are actively engaged and talking about their math ideas using math vocabulary. If you want to learn more about this strategy, ask your students about the Pirate and Diamond.

Gym Shorts
Here’s what is going down in the gym. 6th and 8th graders are in the middle of our cooperative games unit. Some of the activities include Team Target Ball, Space Dodgeball, and Mission Impossible. This unit has been a hit this year.
7th graders are wrapping up their Create-a-Game until. Groups of students work to develop their own PE Game that they will teach their classmates. This is a fun unit that allows Mr. Young and Mr. Hinkhnouse to see just how creative these groups can be.
In 8th grade fitness classes, students have been raising the bar, literally! Between strength training 2-3 days a week, the classes have been working on their speed, explosiveness, and mobility. A big focus for Mr. Hobbs’ and Mr. Hinkhouse’s classes is for the students to become stronger and faster but also to work to be better movers. If you are in 7th grade and enjoy working, consider signing up for one of our classes next year.

2023-2024 Snow Day Plan
There is a change to the third-day snow day plan.
- The first two snow days will be non-instructional days and will not be made up. Students and staff will not report to buildings.
- Any snow days needed after the second one will be designated as Emergency Virtual Learning Days for students and staff.
The term “emergency virtual learning day” refers to a school day when, instead of coming to a school building, teachers and students communicate online. Please refer to the following guidelines for virtual learning days.

The Webb Care Closet is open to the public by appointment. Anyone is welcome to take what they need from the closet; there is a wide range of clothing sizes and clothing items. Please contact the Webb Middle School office at (608) 768-8930 or email Lori Rose at [email protected] to make an appointment.
The Care Closet does take donations. They can be dropped off at the Webb Middle School office during regular school hours. Additionally, the Care Closet has an Amazon wish list, which is regularly updated. Please view the wishlist at AMAZON.

Both doctor-prescribed and over-the-counter medications that need to be given at school require a completed Medication Consent Form. Prescription medications require a doctor's signature.
- IMPORTANT: All medications must be kept in the office, even if they are over- the-counter.

The School District of Reedsburg School Board approved student calendars for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years. Our goal is to stay one full year ahead so both families and staff have ample time to prepare for breaks, graduations, etc. | |
