On May 7, 2019 the Clean Buildings bill (HB 1257) was signed into law. The objective of this legislation is to lower costs and pollution from fossil fuel consumption in the state’s existing commercial buildings, greater than 50,000 sf in size.

The law requires the Washington State Department of Commerce to develop and implement an energy performance standard for these buildings. WSSHE anticipates that most of our hospitals in Washington State will be impacted by this law.

Rule - making for this law has been ongoing since last October and is scheduled to wrap up in July with the final rules published in November, 2020.

This session will provide an introduction to this law including timelines for compliance and how you can prepare your organization and facility for success in the future.
