About the Program

On September 5, 2024, Presiding Judge Samantha P. Jessner issued General Order 2024-GEN-011-00 which expands the circumstances under which electronic recording equipment may be utilized to capture a verbatim record of proceedings. The Order directs Executive Officer/Clerk of Court David W. Slayton to instruct court staff to operate the electronic recording equipment in certain family law, probate and unlimited civil proceedings when directed by the judicial officer, when a court-employed court reporter is unavailable, and after the judicial officer makes specified findings of fact. This expansion of the use of electronic recording equipment to capture a verbatim record of proceedings enhances litigants’ access to meaningful appellate review.

Join us for a special webinar where LASC leadership will discuss recent developments regarding court reporters, electronic recordings in civil proceedings, and how these changes impact access to justice. Take this opportunity to learn more about how the court is addressing the court reporter crisis, its implications for litigants, and what this means for the future of court proceedings.
