CONTEXT
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is partnering with Executive Magazine to convene, during the month of September, four online expert round-tables that will examine anti-corruption in Lebanon.

The first round-table will cover "Transparency and Accountability in International Assistance". This is a timely theme considering the country’s need for such assistance, especially in the aftermath of the Beirut Port explosion, and is also relevant to assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

TOPICS OF DISCUSSION

  • The round- table will explore how the provision of humanitarian and development assistance can be undermined by corruption and mismanagement
  • The various approaches that can be used in the current context of Lebanon to deal with related issues.
  • Experts will draw on related comparative experiences and similar initiatives in the country and elsewhere in the world.

FINDINGS

Findings are expected to highlight key risks and provide insights on how different stakeholders can deal with such risks including international partners, government institutions, businesses, non-governmental organizations, the media, target beneficiary groups, and more broadly the general public.

FORMAT

The webinar will take place over Zoom on Wednesday 9 September, 2020 at 5:00 PM Beirut time (GMT 3+), and is now open for registration.
It will also be live streamed on the UNDP’s Facebook channel. Executive Magazine will re-publish the round-tables discussion on its own online platforms following the event.
