Tools, Ideas, and Strategies for Creative Computing in Afterschool

About this webinar:

Providing students with the tools and knowledge they need to become creators of technology, not just consumers, is a growing priority for afterschool programs across the country. Many programs are building from the ground up and running into issues like finding the right curriculum or qualified staff teach computer science.

Join us for a conversation with Sarah Carter, from SciGirls, and Ricarose Roque, of the University of Colorado, Boulder, for a conversation on overcoming these obstacles, from picking the right tools to teach computer science after school to training program facilitators to use them and beyond.

Get ready to go on a math adventure with NASA’s Artemis missions!

Launch Into Math is a collection of eight math exercises for students ages 11 and up. The activity topics range from ratios to coordinate planes to medians and interquartile ranges, all with an out-of-this-world twist.

Meet members of the Artemis team and find out how they use math to push the boundaries of space exploration with the Space Launch System rocket, the Orion capsule, and other important components of our missions to return to the Moon.

Some of NASA’s groundbreaking research can only happen with the help of volunteers. With just your phone or computer, you can help NASA uncover new discoveries and expand our understanding of the universe — all while improving life on Earth! From spotting storms and chasing auroras to exploring distant galaxies, NASA's citizen science projects prove what’s possible when we do science together.

For Citizen Science Month, we’re embarking on an incredible mission to achieve something amazing – One Million Acts of Science! Join this impactful effort, and let’s prove what’s possible when we come together.

Make Ice Cream in a Bag

Have you ever made ice cream? It can be a lot of fun, and you end up with a tasty frozen treat! There is actually a lot of interesting chemistry that goes on behind making ice cream. For example, think about how you start out with refrigerated (or room-temperature) ingredients and then need to cool them down to turn them turn into ice cream. How do the ingredients change during this process? How important do you think it is that they are cooled to a certain temperature? In this science… Read more
