National PTA's Proposed Dues Increase

REGISTER TO VOTE BY MAY 30th!

National PTA's Proposed Dues Increase YOU CAN VOTE!

National PTA has proposed increasing their dues from $2.25 to $4.00 (a $1.75 increase). This will be voted on at the 2023 Virtual National PTA Convention held from June 15 to June 24, 2023.

YOUR VOTE IS IMPORTANT!!

Virginia PTA is the 5th largest PTA in the nation, and is allocated a significant number of voting delegates based on our membership. However, to fully utilize our votes, local units and Council PTAs from Virginia need to register for National PTA's Virtual Convention and participate in the vote.

HOW DO YOU VOTE?

Register for National PTA's 2023 Virtual Convention BEFORE MAY 30th. Attendance & voting IS VIRTUAL! Registration is $75 per person OR $60 per person for groups (5 or more).

WHEN WOULD THIS TAKE EFFECT?

National PTA has proposed the dues increase would take effect on Oct 1, 2023.

This means, IF the dues rate increase passes, members who join prior to Oct 1 would pay at the current rate ($3.75) and members joining after Oct 1 would join at the new rate of $5.50 ($4.00 to National PTA, $1.50 to Virginia PTA).

WHAT IS VIRGINIA PTA'S POSITION?

Virginia PTA has no plans to increase our state dues of $1.50/member. We are committed to keeping our dues rate low and utilizing non-dues revenue to support you. Virginia PTA has a long standing position opposing dues increases.

IS ATTENDING NATIONAL CONVENTION A PTA EXPENSE?

YES! Attending Council, State and National PTA Annual Meetings is a PTA expense and should be included in your annual budget. If this is not in your current budget, you can seek reimbursement from your PTA in the new fiscal year's budget.

WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING AT NATIONAL CONVENTION?

You can also vote in National PTA's officer election, vote on proposed bylaws changes and vote on four resolutions. The registration fee entitles you to attendance at all General Meeting Sessions & Workshops (except those restricted to specific groups). Most of the sessions will be available for viewing on demand for 90 days after the close of the Convention.

Annual Standards of Affiliation Submissions

Annual Standards of Affiliation Submissions

Standards of Affiliation are defined in Virginia PTA's Local Unit Uniform bylaws and ensure local and council PTAs maintain 501(c)3 best practices and comply with applicable federal and state laws. Standards of Affiliation are sometimes referred to as 'Good Standing' which generically refers to a selection of Standards of Affiliation requirements that must be met to qualify your PTA to participate in PTA grant and awards programs.

Annual Documents that each PTA should submit via MemberHub include:

  1. Contact Information for your Executive Board (w/principal)   (Due: June 15th)
  2. Proof of Insurance  (June 15th. DUE DATE EXTENDED TO JULY 15th*)
  3. Financial Review (Audit)   (Due: Aug 1st)
  4. IRS 990 Tax filing for fiscal year ending Jun 30th   (Due: Aug 1st)
  5. Membership List & Dues; (1st of each month. Membership lists are automatically submitted if membership is sold in MemberHub. However, Membership dues do not automatically transfer to Virginia PTA. Your Treasurer or President must initiate dues payment within MemberHub.)
  6. Bylaws Organizational Structure Form (annual or when modified)

Standards of Affiliation letters (sometimes referred to as a 501(c)3 letter) will be uploaded to MemberHub AFTER your PTA has submitted all Standards of Affiliation documents to Virginia PTA via MemberHub. In 2023-24 Virginia PTA will upload your Standards of Affiliation letter directly into the Compliance section of MemberHub. Please allow a week for the letter to be completed and uploaded.

*NOTE: Due to MemberHub functionality, submission of your Proof of Insurance covering your PTA and officers for 2023-2024 is extended until July 15, 2023.
