African Americans suffer disproportionately in almost all categories of health disparities. This presentation from the Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts will delve into the contributing factors of African American health disparities including menthol-flavored tobacco and how systemic racism, which will provide context to the cumulative effects of racism over centuries, has set the playing field today that we are all operating on – how it shows up in our lives, wealth and health – using tobacco as a medium for the story.

Recovery Supportive Workplace Series Begins May 25


The Northampton Health Department and Hampshire HOPE are partnering with the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce to present a series of three interactive virtual programs to learn about Recovery Supportive Workplaces. Employers and employees are invited to attend one, two or all three of the presentations.  

 

1. Weds May 25, 12 – 1: Key Features of Recovery Supportive Workplace. 


2. Weds, June 8, 12 – 1: Building the Culture: First Steps to Building Recovery Supportive Workplaces. 


3. Weds, June 22, 12 - 1: How to Talk With Employees About Your Concerns About Their Substance Use.
