A Note from Scott and Marsha
June 24, 2021
We imagine many of you celebrated a graduate this year. We know several that have finished strong after a very trying and stressful 16 months. Congratulations to all the graduates and kudos to the parents because we all know you worked just as hard raising them!

Speaking of special times, funny story of the week. A couple weeks ago, we had orientation at work for all the newbies. We love introducing our team to everything we do after they have their feet wet. There isn't necessarily a reason to overwhelm them immediately. So we use our orientation to show them all the divisions and fun we have at FGS as an entire company.

This week, we had a rather big group which is exciting to see. I arrived to work early to prep for my small part. Dylan, who is pictured above, arrives freshly shaven.

I said, "Uh, where is your beard and why did you do the whole moustache thing?"  Insert my eye roll here.

He replies, "With getting married next week, I want to have a five o'clock shadow so I decided to have fun with it at orientation today."

Well, I LOVE to have fun, too. So I went to my office and printed off this image of Mario because he seriously looked like him. My plan was when Dylan did his little speech and introduction of his division, I would quietly slip this up next to him. Sure enough, it broke the ice!

Dylan and I are very similar creatures in our personalities and I adore his sense of humor and wit. There are so many things we appreciate about him and we are very excited as just this past weekend, he married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn, who has a beautiful soul as well.  It brings a lot of joy when people let you in to their world. Hopefully our maintenance clients all have the chance to know him. You won't find a guy that works as hard as him to serve our clients as well as his team.  He loves well.

And who doesn't love LOVE. Let me tell you how you can love someone special this week. Houseplants. Fresh annuals. Favorite perennials. Shopping for green that stays green for weeks and months is way more rewarding! Get your someone special a LOVE FERN!!

GARDEN CENTER FEATURES
TILLANDSIA
You love plants, but you don't love dirt. We get it...well, kind of ;) We have the perfect plant for you--Tillandsia. Also known as Air Plants, Tillandsia are unique and beautiful plants that don't require soil to thrive. They do need bright light and water, however. Water once a week in the spring, summer and fall by soaking for 10 minutes and then allowing to dry (upside down preferably). Most are fine misted weekly in the winter months.
HUMMINGBIRD-FRIENDLY PLANTS
Hummingbirds are a beautiful and fun addition to any garden. There are many plants you can use to attract them. For annuals, plant Petunia, Penta, Lantana, Angelonia, Cleome, Salvia, or Nicotiana. Hummingbirds are most attracted to these perennials--Cardinal Flower, Honeysuckle, Monarda, Agastache, Penstemon, and Columbine. Plant a combination of annuals and perennials to attract as many hummingbirds as possible!

Plant Tip of the Week:
Yes! You CAN plant in the summer!
It is a common misconception that you can't plant during the summer months. While spring and fall may be more ideal times for planting, you can definitely still plant in the summer. However, you will have to be more aware and careful of watering practices when planting in the summer.
