There were few dry eyes Saturday when Chance Veazey of Tifton , with a little help from his friends, got out of his wheelchair and stood for the first dance with his new bride , the former Molly Mathis .

"My nephew , Chance Veazey , and his beautiful bride, Molly Veazey , surprised his mom and dad and their many wedding guests with a special first dance ," Veazey's aunt Maria Cottle said on social media.

Cottle shared the video on YouTube and Facebook .

"Molly and Chance shared the special moment with his mom, Darby Veazey . It was a very emotional moment for everyone," Cottle said.

Veazey , son of  Todd and Darby Veazey  of  Tifton , has been in a wheelchair since a devastating  traffic accident  in  Athens  during  2009,  Chance's freshman year at UGA . He was a second baseman on the  UGA baseball team at the time, and the accident left his l egs paralyzed .

"He was dating Molly at the time of his injury ," Cottle said. "She was his rock during his recovery . They broke up a while later and rekindled their relationship after a six-year separation . They gave their love #SecondChance  and were married this past weekend ."

Chance and Molly's first dance was to Celine Dion's " Because You Loved Me ." Cottle called it the " sweetest first dance you will ever see."

BOE NAMES McKINNON
TO FILL UNEXPIRED TERM
The Tift County Board of Education has appointed Pat McKinnon to the BOE to fill the seat left vacant by board member John W. Smith's death in August .

McKinnon , executive director of the United Way of South Central Georgia , will represent the school board's District 2 for the remainder of the term , which ends in 2022 .

"I am confident that my qualifications , my strong relationship with many of the district's families , combined effectively with my education and leadership abilities , are in alignment with serving on the Tift County Board Of Education ," McKinnon said.

"My commitment to listen , to work and to learn  will be an asset serving District 2 ."
ABAC INKS AGREEMENT WITH PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE
With the signing of a new articulation agreement with Presbyterian College , Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton has taken another step toward being a destination for students planning to become pharmacists .

The agreement guarantees qualified ABAC biology students an interview and consideration for acceptance into the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy Pharm.D. program

ABAC now has relationships with the Pharm.D. programs at both Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. , and at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee .
WESTERN FOLKLIFE CENTER CHOOSES EXHIBIT BY FORMER TIFTONITE
Former Tifton resident Stephan Zacharias , who was known as the “Big Guy with the Beard" when he worked at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture & Historic Village , has an exhibit he created being featured at the Western Folklife Center in Elko, Nev.

The exhibit, "Black Cowboys of Campbell County (Wyoming)" – which Zacharias researched, designed and curated – was selected among exhibits from all over the United States to tell the story of black cowboys from different regions.

Zacharias created the exhibit for the Campbell County Rockpile Museum . It is being featured in the Western Folklife Center as part of its new exhibition , "I'm Gonna Take My Horse," on display through mid-June .

Zacharias is the  son of Southern writer Karen Spears Zacharias .

RECOGNIZES JIMMY ALLEN

Jimmy Allen , chairman of Southwell health system and member of the Hospital Authority of Tift County , was named Man of the Year last Thursday at the Adel-Cook Chamber of Commerce' s annual banquet.

Allen , an entrepreneur, owns Pike Creek Turf Farm in Adel . He also was the founder of the Allen, Pritchett & Bassett accounting firm in Tifton .
