IT’S A MATTER OF TRUST

The bible is full of scriptures that tell us to trust him. There have been countless sermons about trusting God. Since this is such a repeated subject, just what is trust?
In Proverbs 3:5a it says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart…” The word trust comes from the Hebrew word “batach” which means to hie for refuge. Hie is an old English word that means urgency, or prompt obedience.
So, to break it down you might say it this way, “Have an urgent obedience to take refuge in the LORD with all thine heart…”
Trusting God means we see God as our place of refuge where we are safe and protected.
Trust is not always easy for those whose trust was violated when they were young, or was violated in relationships that had little if any trust in them. Often those wounded persons find it hard to “trust” in God that they cannot see. This is where faith steps in.
We make a choice to “trust” in God, who cannot lie, and trust His word that is truth. We trust that nothing in God’s word is put there to destroy us, but to teach us and help us to grow in faith.
The word trust also means in the Hebrew to be secure, confident and have hope. We must realize that God and His word are our place of security, hope, and confidence. No person, whether a man or woman can ever give us that kind of security. It comes by faith as we put our trust in the faithful one – Jesus.
When we put our trust in God and God alone, we can be confident that He will guide and protect us on our life’s journey.
