The New Orleans Saints have five players chosen to the Pro Bowl.
Quarterback Drew Brees, left tackle Terron Armstead, defensive end Cam Jordan, wide receiver Michael Thomas and center Max Unger were selected to the initial roster Tuesday.
Nine other players on the Saints have been picked as alternates

The Saints released the following statement:
Five New Orleans Saints were voted to the Pro Bowl, the National Football League announced Tuesday evening. T Terron Armstead, QB Drew Brees, DE Cameron Jordan, WR Michael Thomas and C Max Unger were selected to the NFC squad to play in the NFL's All-Star game, which will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. All but Unger were voted in as starters. With seven Saints named to the Pro Bowl last year, this marks the first time since the 2010-2011 campaigns that the Saints have had at least five players in back-to-back seasons named to participate in the contest. It also marks the 11th consecutive season that the club has at least one Pro Bowl selection.
Armstead was selected to his first Pro Bowl in his sixth NFL season. He started the first nine games of the season at left tackle for New Orleans, a period when the offensive line surrendered an NFL-low nine sacks, ranking first in the NFL in scoring (36.7 points per game), fifth in net yards per game (413.9 yards per game), eighth in rushing (126.8 yards per game) and seventh in passing (287.1 yards per game).
It is Brees' 12th Pro Bowl selection overall in his 18-year NFL career and his club-record 11th as a member of the Saints, who he joined in 2006. He was the NFL's leading vote-getter among fans. In 2018, he has started all 14 games and completed 337-of-450 passes (74.9%) for 3,666 yards with 31 touchdowns, only five interceptions and a 116.8 passer rating, ranked first in the league in both passing yardage and rating. He has also set a new career-high with four rushing touchdowns. Brees has also engineered a league-high six fourth quarter/overtime game-winning drives in 2018, including on in Monday night's win at Carolina.
Brees was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week Three for his performance at Atlanta, when he led them to a 43-37 overtime win. Brees completed 39-of-49 passes for 396 yards with three touchdown passes with zero interceptions, to go with two rushing touchdowns, including the second in overtime to end the contest. He became the only player to have at least 350 passing yards, three touchdown passes, two rushing touchdowns and zero interceptions in a contest. In the game, Brees became the NFL's all-time leader in completions.
Two weeks later vs. Washington, Brees captured conference offensive player of the week honors again as he set another record by becoming the league's all-time passing yardage leader in a 43-19 win on Monday night football. In the contest, Brees completed 26-of-29 (career-high 89.7% completion percentage) passes for 363 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 153.2 passer rating. In the second quarter on a 62-yard touchdown pass to rookie wideout Tre'Quan Smith, Brees became the league's all-time passing yardage leader.
Brees also shined in the first four contests of November, earning NFC Offensive Player of the Month honors, when he completed 84-of-113 passes for 1,145 yards with 15 touchdowns, only one interception and a 142.1 passer rating in leading the Saints to a 4-0 mark. He led the NFL during the four-game period in touchdown passes, passer rating and passing touchdown percentage (13.3%).
Brees, a former Purdue standout, who originally entered the NFL as a second round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers in 2001 (32nd overall), before signing with the Saints as an unrestricted free agent in 2006, has played in 263 career games (262 starts) and has completed 6,559-of-9,744 passes (67.3%) for 74,111 yards, 519 touchdowns and a 97.7 passer rating. He is the NFL's all-time leader in completion percentage, completions and passing yardage, is ranked second in touchdowns passes and has the third-highest passer rating.
This is Jordan's fourth Pro Bowl, the most selections in franchise history for a defensive end. Jordan has enjoyed a standout season, starting all 14 games and recording 45 tackles (34 solo), 12 sacks, five passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The former University of California standout, who was the club's first draft choice in 2011 (24th overall) is tied for eighth in the NFL in quarterback takedowns and in Weeks 12-14 had two sacks apiece in each contest.
In eight seasons, Jordan has appeared in all 126 games with 125 starts, including opening 111 consecutive games, the longest active consecutive games started streak by an NFL defensive lineman and has posted career totals of 500 tackles (309 solo), 71.5 sacks for losses of 488.5 yards, two interceptions, 45 passes defensed, ten forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries. His takedown total is ranked fourth in club record books.
Thomas is the first Saints wide receiver to be selected to the Pro Bowl in consecutive seasons since Joe Horn (2001-02) and joins Horn as the only other Saints wideout to have multiple selections. A second round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft (47th overall) out of Ohio State, Thomas has followed up a standout first two seasons with a campaign where he leads the NFL in receiving with a franchise-record 109 receptions for 1,267 yards and eight touchdowns. Thomas' 305 receptions are the most by an NFL player in his first three seasons with two games remaining in the 2018 campaign to spare.
Unger has been selected to the Pro Bowl for the third time in his career and his first since being acquired by New Orleans from the Seattle Seahawks in 2015. He has anchored the middle of an offensive line, starting every game for a unit that has surrendered only 16 sacks, tied for the lowest total in the NFL, while blocking for the league's seventh ranked offense, eighth running the ball.

New call centers planned in Louisiana, creating 240 jobs
Louisiana's social services agency is moving its help-line work to new call centers planned within the state.
Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Tuesday that Mississippi-based YoungWilliams will spend $4 million to create new call centers in Bossier City and Baton Rouge, with 240 new jobs.
The centers will provide support for the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services for five years, responding to questions about child support enforcement, food stamps and cash assistance programs.
Previous call center functions were handled by a company operating in Florida and California, rather than in Louisiana.
The Bossier City call center is expected to open by March, with 80 jobs. The Baton Rouge site is expected to open later in 2019, with 160 jobs.
The jobs pay an average annual salary of $27,000.

About the work: Ash Arder will continue developing a multi-sensory body of work that examines human-plant relations through the lens of agricultural experiments in 19th century Louisiana. Archival reports from these experiments and found field recordings will be used as source material for new works that question historic human-plant relations and speculate about the future of that exchange.

About the artist: Ash Arder is a transdisciplinary artist who creates idea and object-based systems for interpreting and re-imagining interspecies relations (i.e. relations between humans and plants). This highly flexible, research-based approach examines these relationships primarily through pop culture and historic lenses. Arder's systems and "exercises" take on forms including installation, sound, drawing, electronics, video and performance. Each ponders the role of agency, both active and passive, in co-creating an event or phenomenon. Arder is interested in complicating viewers' own understanding of their proximity to and participation in the systems and cycles reflected in her work and subsequently at larger societal and ecological scales. These complications or moments of tension between living things, objects and space serve as a catalyst for interrogating the very conditions responsible for the glitch. Arder's work and research probe historical events and pop culture (future history) for insight into what she understands to be "relational glitches," or ruptures in empathy.

INTRODUCING "COVINGTON'S TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS"
From a partridge in a pear tree to twelve drummers drumming, downtown Covington will be aglow with  holiday images this month as the City launches its inaugural lighted display, "Covington's Twelve Days of  Christmas."

The tableau features twelve lighted silhouettes depicting larger-than-life images from the traditional Old  English Christmas carol, exhibited at various locales in the downtown historic district. The public is invited to  stroll through the city to view "four calling birds, three French hens," and other familiar images from the well-
known Christmas carol. The images will be illuminated seven days a week from dusk to dawn now through  January 6.

Tourist and Convention Commission (Louisiana Northshore) to spread holiday cheer.
"We welcome you to find the joys of the season within this unique Christmas event, which is sure to warm  the hearts of locals and visitors alike," said Mayor Cooper.
"Covington's Twelve Days of Christmas" is sponsored by the City, with support from the St. Tammany Parish
Tourist and Convention Commission. The display is free and open to the public.

WALTER WOLFMAN WASHINGTON'S 75TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONAT OGDEN AFTER HOURS
/// December 20 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Walter "Wolfman" Washington has been a mainstay in the New Orleans music scene since the early 1960s. He cut his teeth backing up some of the best singers and performers in New Orleans history, including Lee Dorsey, Johnny Adams and Irma Thomas before putting together his long time band The Roadmasters, who have been burning down and burning up local and national stages since their first gigs in the 1980s.
Washington's new album My Future is My Past,  produced by Ben Ellman of Galactic, is a different kind of record than his playing with Lee Dorsey or The Roadmasters. Washington had to take more care with these songs. He explained, "When you're with a band, you have to really punch it out. When you're alone, you have to pay attention to your notes and pronunciation and stuff. And then you have to put your soul into it and your feelings. Each one of the songs is a story. You can actually picture things like that happening. I had to fix my mind into each of the situations in the song."
Washington has always embodied both the wildness and sophistication of New Orleans, but finally we have a set of songs that reflects the yin to Walter's bring-the-party yang. This is the record that we all have known he has in him. This is the night after that party, or maybe just the after party. He's been given free rein to express himself, and that's special. Producer Ben Ellman has assembled a sympathetic group of musicians from keyboardists Jon Cleary and Ivan Neville to a versatile and sensitive rhythm section of bassist James Singleton and drummer Stanton Moore. When asked about being in the studio with these musicians, Washington's enthusiasm comes through immediately.
Walter uses his voice to embody both those traditions here, and then twist those traditions so that he's doing both at the same time. His vocals and playing is quiet but keeps up the slow burn intensity. He filters his smooth croon through his unique raw blues feel, and the result is subtle, tasteful and powerful. His guitar playing has that searing tone but also the well placed chords of a bebop player. That's all here but it's jazzy and improvised and in the moment in such a way that you are on the edge of your seat wondering what he'll do next. It is exciting to the listener, and it is exciting to Washington. He says, "People tell me, 'Walter, you don't ever lose the root of what you're coming from," and this record proves he is as close to his roots as he has ever been.

"Looped"-a play by Matthew Lombardo
by Looped Productions NOLA
$15

"Looped" is a play by Matthew Lombardo that had its Broadway run in 2010.
Based on a real event, "Looped" takes place in the summer of 1965, when an inebriated Tallulah Bankhead needed eight hours to redub - or loop - one line of dialogue for her last movie, Die! Die! My Darling!! Though Bankhead's outsized personality dominates the play, the sub-story involves her battle of wills with a film editor named Danny Miller, who has been selected to work that particular sound editing session.
Starring Elizabeth Bouvier as Tallulah Bankhead & featuring Greg Nacozy as Danny Miler & Bradley Arsenaux as the off stage voice of Steve, the sound engineer.

The Santaland Diaries
by David Sedaris
adapted by Joe Mantello

When a down-on-his luck wannabe actor arrives in New York City at the end of the year, the only employment he can find is at Macy's department store - working in Santaland for the holiday season, as a reluctant, but relentlessly cheerful elf. Newly christened "Crumpet", our clever anti-hero shares his observations of the mayhem in front of and behind the scenes during one chaotic December, from aggressive parents and drunken Santas, to flirtatious actors, poor hygiene, and the racially charged hazards of being a "Pointer Elf". Will Crumpet find a moment of pure Christmas Spirit? *For Mature Audiences*

Le Petit's first-annual production of Charles Dickens' heartwarming Victorian classic, A Christmas Carol, features 20 young artists from our newly-launched Young Conservatory Program. Miserly and menacing moneylender Ebeneezer Scrooge learns lessons in love, generosity, and redemption when he is visited by a host of spirits on Christmas Eve. Filled with magic, ghosts, and holiday cheer. Le Petit has a long tradition of having young people perform on its stages and we are proud that the launch of our Young Conservatory in the fall will culminate in a youth company of performers who will take the stage in A Christmas Carol.

PLEASTE NOTE: This production includes spooky ghosts and is not appropriate for children under 5 years old.

City to Increase the Number of Waste Tires Accepted at the Recycling Drop-Off Center from Four to Five
NEW ORLEANS - In an effort to reduce the number of illegally abandoned waste tires, the City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation has increased the number of waste tires that will be accepted at the Recycling Drop-Off Center from four to five. The Recycling Drop-Off Center, located at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave., is open on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Orleans Parish residents can drop off paper products (newspapers, junk mail, phone books, catalogs, office paper, color inserts); plastics #1 through #7 (water, soda, juice, detergent, plastic pots from nurseries, plastic bags, etc.); metals (aluminum, tin and steel cans); cardboard; box board (cereal boxes); Mardi Gras beads; batteries (AA, AAA, AAAA, C, D, 6 volt, 9 volt, Lithium); light bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent); and electronics such as computers, processors, monitors, keyboards, small printers, laptops, ink jet/toner cartridges, circuit boards, X-boxes, Playstations, Wii, MP3/DVD/CD players, DVRs, digital cameras, security systems, networking equipment, UPS, GPS, fax machines, stereos, telephones and phone systems, televisions (limit 4), microwave ovens (limit 4), tires (limit 5), glass (limit 50 lbs.) and organics for composting -- fruit/vegetable scraps (peels, skins, pits, or seeds), tea bags, coffee grounds and paper filter, eggshells, nutshells, seed shells, plain bread, grains, and plain pasta (no toppings, meet, bones, dairy or foods with oil).

REMAINING 2018 DROP-OFF SCHEDULE

Dec. 22, 2018

**Shred day (Limit 50 lbs.)

The following companies provide their services free of charge as a service to the community:
  • Iron Mountain -- paper shredding and recycling
  • CACRC -- e-waste recycling
  • Republic Services -- single stream recycling
  • The Composting Network -- composting

Since the City established the Recycling Drop-Off Center in August 2010, a total of 1,193 tons have been recycled. Since the current curbside recycling program began in May 2011, a total of 48,822 tons have been recycled. As a result of the City's efforts since 2010 to appropriately dispose of waste tires illegally dumped and collected from residential properties, more than 214,966 waste tires have been transported to the only LDEQ-approved waste tire processor in the City. The tires collected are recycled.

Occupants of residential properties, which are eligible to receive solid waste collection by the City, are also eligible to place up to four (4) tires next to their garbage collection carts on the second collection day of each week (or on Wednesdays in the French Quarter and DDD).  Businesses are not eligible for this service.

Residents are reminded that an ordinance was passed earlier this year (Sections 26-415 through 24-430 of the City Code), which established minimum standards for the storage, sale, repair, removal, installation, hauling and disposal of motor vehicle tires and established a stronger enforcement process with significant fines and penalties.

It is illegal to store more than 20 tires on a property without authorization from LDEQ as a registered Waste Tire Generator or to transport more than 20 tires without a permit from LDEQ, which must be prominently displayed on the vehicle transporting the tires. All tires must be covered to prevent standing water which could become breeding grounds for rodents and mosquitoes that could carry the West Nile or Zika viruses. All Waste Tire Generators must keep LDEQ-approved manifests on site, for a minimum of five years, which document that tires have been legally transported and disposed of by an LDEQ-permitted transporter and tire processor.

The Department of Sanitation is working the NOPD, the Department of Safety and Permits and the Department of Finance to ensure that all tire shops are in full compliance with City and State Codes. The owners of properties that are found not to be in compliance will be cited. As a result of a joint enforcement action involving LDEQ's Criminal Investigation Division and NOPD, arrests have been made for illegally transporting and disposing of tires in Orleans Parish.
