THE CHRISTMAS SERIES – PART 10
JESUS AND ANNA (LUKE 2:36-38)

As Mary presented herself at the Temple for cleansing, infant Jesus was with her. Simeon had held the child and prophesied over him.

There was also present a prophetess named Anna. She was an 84-year-old widow who spent day and night at the Temple in prayer, and also fasted often.

When Anna saw infant Jesus, she instantly knew He was the prophesied Redeemer. She knew Him because she had been constantly dwelling “in the secret place of the Most High” (Psalm 91:1). Being close to God, Holy Spirit revealed Him as Messiah to her. She then began telling everyone who had been looking for a redeemer about Jesus.

We should likewise be telling everyone today about Him. Millions of people right here in America know nothing about Him. How will they know if we do not tell them? Follow Anna’s example and tell everyone.

We should also follow Anna’s example of seeking the Lord in much prayer and scriptural meditation. In Isaiah 55:6 (NKJV) it says, “Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near.” He is just a prayer away.

COUNTING THE COST

Have you ever started something and then it became too difficult and you just wanted to quit? I would have to say that most of us would say yes. There are many things that we thought were the right thing to do but found out that we could not do it. Either we were not trained, or we became weary in doing the task.

In Luke 14:28-30 there is a parable that Jesus gave. It reads like this: “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it began to mock him. Saying, this man began to build, and was not able to finish.”  Jesus was not talking just about building a tower. In the previous verses he speaks of forsaking father, mother, wife, children, brethren, sisters and your own life to be his disciple. Then he speaks about bearing your own cross.

I believe that most people that are won to the Lord have not been taught the price to be a disciple for Jesus. Counting the cost means there has to be something given to obtain the end product. Most have not been taught the suffering side of Christianity here in America. Many think if they don’t have comfortable seats and air conditioning that a church is not successful. I would have to say that is an illusion. If you went to a third world country where Christians have to meet secretly and are often captured and tortured, we would see things differently. They have learned that they had to count the cost to become a Christian. It is more than a few words and inviting Christ into your life. It is about death. Death to self, and alive to Christ. There are many modern-day martyrs because they “counted the cost.”

With the chaos of the world many are wondering why God is allowing it all. What is happening right now is nothing compared to what the early church went through. Hebrews tells us that many of those that walked by faith were thrown into the lions’ dens. Some saw their loved ones crucified and tortured. Some were slain with the sword while others were cut in two. Many lived very destitute lives. I believe that we are going to see much persecution very soon of Christians in the world, and we have to be willing also to “count the cost.” It may mean dying for Jesus.

The Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 4:12-13: “I know both how to be based (brought low) and I know how to abound (be prosperous): everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”   When Paul was called by God to be an Apostle and sent blind to the home of Ananias, Ananias was told by God in Acts 9:16: “For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.”

Paul counted the cost but was determined to serve God in spite of what it cost. If he had not done this there would not be most of the New Testament. We would not have the foundation of Christianity that he paid the price for.

Are you prepared to “count the cost”?

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

Would you come apart and be with me today saith the Lord? For I would take the time to have you sit at my feet and just enjoy being in your presence. Yes, I enjoy that as much as you do my child. There are so few that turn the distractions off and come to this place and rest in my presence. For here, in this hour it is more necessary than ever. For I will show you of things to come and warm your heart with my love. Many have grown cold towards me for they think that I have forgotten them when prayers are not answered the way they expected. For those that are truly intimate with me, know that there must be a shedding away of the old, in order for the new to come. Many are hanging on to the old wineskin which cannot hold the new for it would burst. As they do not understand, they have walked away in disappointment. I will not force my presence upon anyone. I would say, it is of the free will to come and be close.
Yet, it takes more than a yes, I will. It takes a resolve to tune out everything that is a distraction and just sit quietly at my feet. I would say to you that as the old wineskin is removed, that the new will be far better than the old. It will cause your faith to grow and be stretched in the hours ahead. It must happen if the remnant is to rise up in my Spirit and do what I desire them to do. There has to be a shedding and a shredding. Shredding Lord? Yes. Shredding of that which was the old so that there is no place to go back to. Shredding the hopes and dreams that have failed and shredding the disappointments and even the victories. For if you dwell on the what ifs, and the what weres, you can never become the what is.

So, my child, sit at my feet and let me do the work necessary to bring you to that place of total dependence on me. Not on any others or anything. Totally dependent upon me. I will remove the old and place the new upon you. During this time, it will be painful, for not only am I removing the old things but also removing some people from your life, which is necessary for you to grow into the new wineskin. Oh, what a beautiful wineskin it will be as you yield to me. I have long waited for you to come to me and allow me to do this my child. For the hours ahead will require it more than ever. And, when I am finished, you shall shine like pure gold refined in the furnace, yes, the furnace, but my reflection shall be upon you as you allow this. When others see you, they will see me. For this is your hour to be what I have called you to be saith the Lord.
