New York State Paid Sick Leave Webinar
Date: Wednesday, Oct. 28
Time: 9 a.m. EDT
Speakers: Christopher Maugans, Goldberg Segalla; Tom Santa Barbara, Direct Advisors

As you know, as part of the fiscal year 2020-2021 budget, New York State passed a Paid Sick Leave Law that kicked in on September 30, 2020. The law requires all New York state employers, depending on the size of the company, to provide paid sick leave to employees. The amount of leave you are mandated to provide is dependent on the number of employees in your company. Join us as ABC Member firms Goldberg Segalla and Direct Advisors inform you on how to be in compliance with New York State's new Paid Sick Leave Law. You do not want to miss this vital webinar.
Upstate Rebar
-First 2021 Membership Renewal-
We want to thank and celebrate WNY area member Upstate Steel/Upstate Rebar for being the first member to send in their 2021 renewal check. Your continued support of this Chapter will help us support and promote merit shop construction across the New York.

Who is Upstate Rebar?

Since 1996, Upstate Rebar has been a major fabricator and supplier of reinforcing bar, welded wire mesh, bar supports and accessories and anchor bolts for a variety of industries, including commercial contractors, home builders, municipalities and more. In 2006, Upstate Rebar acquired an established Western New York rebar fabricating facility, thereby increasing its capacity. In 2009, we expanded again, opening a 30,000-square-foot facility in Lancaster, NY.

Today, Upstate Rebar is the area’s largest supplier of reinforcing bar and accessories. Our experienced staff can suggest or supply the perfect solution for your concrete reinforcing need.

OSHA Issues FAQs on N95 Respirator Effectiveness Against Coronavirus
On Oct. 19, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration published a set of Frequently Asked Questions on the effectiveness of N95 respirators against coronavirus exposure as part of the agency’s COVID-19 FAQs page.

According to an OSHA news release, the agency is aware of incorrect claims stating that N95 respirators do not capture particles as small as the virus that causes the coronavirus, and OSHA’s new FAQ explains why an N95 respirator is effective at protecting users from the virus.

In addition to these new FAQs, OSHA recently issued frequently asked questions and answers regarding the need to report employees’ in-patient hospitalizations and fatalities resulting from work-related cases of the coronavirus.

Unshackle Upstate Releases Fact Sheet on New York’s Tax Burden:

As New York State struggles to recover from the current economic crisis, many special interests and elected officials are pushing for higher taxes. The reality is that New York’s tax burden has been too high for too long. The state’s significant tax burden has contributed to our ongoing population decline and harsh business climate. At least 1.4 million New Yorkers have fled the state in recent years. From 2010 through 2018, New Yorkers have fled to Florida more than any other state. Florida is one of the most taxpayerfriendly and pro-business states in the nation according to a variety of economic analyses.

“For far too long, New York’s taxpayers have carried a burden that is simply too heavy. Each year, tens of thousands of families flee New York for states with better tax climates. This situation is unsustainable and unconscionable. Without meaningful tax relief, our communities and economy will continue to struggle,” said Brian Sampson, Unshackle Upstate Chairman and president of Associated Builders and Contractors, Empire State Chapter.

The article, titled “Big Labor’s Big Senate Plans” also lays out the potential pathway for the ABC-opposed legislation should the U.S. Senate become controlled by a Democratic majority with a Biden Administration.
