GO CAROLING DAY
Tune-up your voice on December 20th so you can join others on Go Caroling Day! Caroling is the practice of singing Christmas songs from door to door as a form of celebration. The word carol means a joyful song or dance.
The tradition of singing carols has roots in pagan celebrations of the Winter Solstice. Carols were later adopted by the Christian faith to celebrate the nativity during the 4th and 5th centuries and were primarily sung in Latin. St. Francis of Assisi improved the popularity of singing carols when he paired the songs with stories (canticles), and the songs were performed in modern languages. The Victorian era saw a surge in caroling, and many popular caroling songs still sung today were written during this era.
Though caroling is not as popular as it once was, it's still a tradition many families, communities, and churches look forward to every year. Some popular caroling songs include:
- Here Comes Santa Claus
- Jingle Bells
- O Christmas Tree
- Silent Night
- We Wish You A Merry Christmas
- Joy to the World
- Let it, Snow!
So, on Go Caroling Day, gather your best voices and sing your favorite Christmas songs door-to-door in your neighborhood.

What does "prognosis" mean?
Projection
prognosis Pronunciation: /prɒgˈnəʊsɪs/
Definition: a forecast or prediction of the likely outcome of a disease or medical condition, based on the evaluation of its symptoms and course of progression.
Origin: The word "prognosis" comes from the Greek words "prognosis" meaning 'foreknowledge' or 'foreseeing'. It is derived from the combination of the prefix "pro-" meaning 'before' and the noun "gnosis" meaning 'knowledge' or 'perception'.
Example: After thoroughly examining the patient's symptoms and conducting various tests, the doctor provided a positive prognosis, indicating a high chance of a full recovery.
Projection is an apt description for the meaning of "prognosis." When someone asks about the prognosis of a medical condition, they are seeking insight into the probable outcome or result. A prognosis is typically provided by medical professionals based on their expertise, experience, and the available data. It helps individuals and their families understand the future implications of their condition and make informed decisions regarding treatment plans or lifestyle adjustments. The prognosis can range from favorable (indicating a high likelihood of recovery) to unfavorable (suggesting a more challenging or grave outcome). Ultimately, the prognosis provides a glimpse into what is likely to happen concerning a specific medical condition.

The Gaming Grunt
As long as the Saints win out the rest of the season, they have a 100% chance of making the playoffs.
If they only lose one of their last three, they still have at least a 97% chance to make the playoffs. Then, once postseason starts, it’s 0-0 again.
If there was ever a time to lock in and shock the world, it’s right now.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens in a New Adaptation by Patrick Barlow
Join us as we bring to life the classic tale of 'A Christmas Carol' at the Marquette Theatre on the Loyola campus.
About the Event
Celebrate the holiday season with Crescent City Stage in what we hope becomes a new annual tradition.
The Performance
Patrick Barlow, writer of the Broadway and West End hit The 39 Steps, has retold Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, A Christmas Carol. This thrilling adaptation uses only five actors to bring some of Dickens' most beloved characters to life. From Scrooge and Tiny Tim to Bob Cratchit and Mrs. Fezziwig, Barlow's A Christmas Carol uses nothing more than some simple props, fresh physicality, and the power of imagination to convey this timeless story of redemption. Witness Ebenezer Scrooge's transformation from a stingy miser to a man who generously celebrates the spirit of the season all year long, in this highly theatrical adaptation.

DELFEAYO MARSALIS
& The Uptown Jazz Orchestra
EVERY WEDNESDAY in DECEMBER!
That's right! After nearly 4 years, Delfeayo and the Big Band return home to Wednesdays at Snug Harbor!
Delfeayo Marsalis is one of the top trombonists, composers, and producers in jazz today. Known for his “technical excellence, inventive mind and frequent touches of humor…” (Los Angeles Times), he is “…one of the best, most imaginative and musical of the trombonists of his generation.” (San Francisco Examiner).
Early influences on Delfeayo's style include J.J. Johnson, Curtis Fuller, Al Grey, Tyree Glenn, Tommy Dorsey, and Duke Ellington’s trombone masters. From the age of 17 until the present, he has produced over 100 recordings for major artists, including Harry Connick Jr, Spike Lee, Terence Blanchard, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and his father and brothers.
In January 2011, Delfeayo and the Marsalis family (father Ellis and brothers Branford, Wynton, and Jason) earned the nation’s highest jazz honor – a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award, thus dubbing them
"America's First Family of Jazz."
On packing a full jazz orchestra into a tiny historic jazz club: "Whatever you have to do," the trombonist says philosophically. But when the band plays the swing and bebop hits from the 1930s through the 1960s, the music is just as tight. From Mardi Gras music to modern jazz, this band does it all.
An intimate experience like no other!
Shows at 7:30pm & 9:30pm.
Doors at 7:00pm & 9:00pm.
Purchase advance tickets now, and then arrive early for dinner, drinks or dessert, to be in that number:

NATIONAL SANGRIA DAY
Across the nation each year on December 20th, National Sangria Day recognizes a wine and fresh fruit combination that brings a fresh celebration to the table.
Sangria is a beverage made with wine and sweetened with fresh fruit and fruit juices. Other ingredients can include herbs, spices, carbonation, and liquor. The combinations are endless, giving sangria a place in the cocktail rotation year-round. Refreshing and light during hot summer months, bright and sparkling during the winter ones, this fruity punch is quite versatile.
Sangria made with white wine is called Sangria Blanca.
Use fresh fruit in season for the best flavors. Once mixed, sangria should be chilled and the fruits allowed to marinate for a few hours or overnight. When making sangria, if you use 100% juice, you'll gain the maximum benefits, too. Eating the fruit versus all the sweet cakes and pies over the holidays will be healthier. Get the benefits of red wine, but drink in moderation and sangria will be worth all the celebration.

Uglesich’s
Located on Baronne Street near the old Brown’s Velvet Dairy in Central City, Sam Uglesich’s first opened in 1924 as a neighborhood restaurant that developed a loyal following. When second generation owners Anthony and Gail Uglesich took over, the menu took on a gourmet twist in addition to the staple of po-boys and raw oysters. But no dessert and no coffee. People lined up around the block and waited for over an hour to get into the small dining room.
After eighty-one years in business, Uglesich’s closed its doors for good in 2005. Everyone assumed that they would somehow be back, that the next generation would take over. Alas, it was not to be. No more fried shrimp and sausage cakes, no more Muddy Water trout, no more Volcano Shrimp.

Expanded holiday festival to include Driving Tour, amusement-park rides and reimagined Walking Tour
New Orleans City Park’s Celebration in the Oaks, one of the most-spectacular holiday lights festivals in the country, has fascinated guests for generations. The month-long fundraiser attracts over 135,000 visitors each year who come to see City Park’s famous live oak trees swathed in over a million twinkling lights and discover hundreds of breathtaking displays throughout the Park. This year, THE New Orleans holiday tradition is taking it to another level.
“With the Driving Tour and Walking Tour, this will be the biggest footprint Celebration in the Oaks has had since Hurricane Katrina,” said Cara Lambright, City Park Conservancy CEO. “As our largest annual fundraiser, we can’t wait to share this exciting celebration with our community.”
Boasting more light displays, new attractions and the return of the Botanical Garden Walking Tour, the 2022 Celebration will offer a variety of options, and price points, for guests to choose from.
Highlights this year include:
2.25-mile Driving Tour with enhanced displays
Walking Tour with Botanical Garden access and Carousel Gardens Amusement Park rides included
Multiple dedicated Bike Nights
Botanical Garden Dripping Tree, Poinsettia Tree, Historic Train Garden and “Cajun Night Before Christmas”
Carousel Gardens Train, Christmas Tree, Mr. Bingle and free marshmallows and hot chocolate
Holiday-themed Storyland
Iconic LED dinosaurs, flamingos and pirate ship
New exhibits such Toy Land, a 12-foot Dandelion Meadow Display and Winter Wonderland
“We heard the call of the community and challenged ourselves to step it up,” said Julie LaCour, Director of CITO/Special Events. “We know how important this event is to visitors, and we feel confident this year’s final product will make memories for folks that will last a lifetime.”
City Park Conservancy’s annual operating budget is largely reliant on self-generated activities, often weather dependent, and Celebration in the Oaks plays a key role in funding the Park’s continued maintenance and beauty each year, providing nearly 10% of the Park’s annual budget. The public’s investment and attendance at Celebration in the Oaks supports City Park’s success going forward.

130 Roosevelt Way New Orleans, LA, United States, Louisiana 70112

During the Christmas season, almost every local has made their way through the cold streets of downtown New Orleans to see the lobby of the romantic Roosevelt Hotel.
Faux tree stems wrapped in glimmering white lights stand tall as they hover over guests and nearly touch the ceiling chandeliers. Neighboring the branches are snow-white Christmas trees covered in red ribbons and ornaments. Both decors line the lobby in a perfect, picturesque pattern.
Hence, it isn't hard to understand why Travel and Leisure named the Roosevelt one of the 15 most festive hotels in the U.S. during the holiday season.
“Our hotel guests, New Orleanians and tourists from all over the world come to The Roosevelt at this time of year because it is truly the brightest, most brilliant place to bring out the holiday spirit,” Tod Chambers, general manager of the Roosevelt, said in a news release.
This year, the Roosevelt is bringing back its beloved Christmas tradition on Nov. 28, unveiling 1,600 feet of garland and 4,000 glass ornaments, the hotel announced Wednesday morning.
New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager Mickey Loomis will be there to help switch on the ceremonial lighting of over 112,000 lights, the Roosevelt said in a news release.
The hotel will also be offering various options for holiday dining experiences and drink options at the Sazerac Bar and Teddy's Café.
The Sazerac Bar is bringing back their annual holiday drinks, including the Christmas Cookie — a sweet, vodka-based mixed drink — and the Candy Cane, a sugar drink featuring Rumple Minze.

City of New Orleans Encourages Residents to Participate in the Annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program to Rebuild Wetlands
NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today reminded residents of the annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program to restore our wetlands. For over 25 years, this program has contributed to the restoration of the Bayou Sauvage Urban National Wildlife Refuge, while preventing them from being placed in landfills. The trees also create an important habitat for birds, fish, crabs, crawfish and shrimp.
"Every year, our Christmas trees bring light and happiness into our homes, but their significance goes far beyond spreading holiday joy," said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. "Recycling and placing these trees along our eroding coastline to help rebuild our wetlands will assist in the effort to protect our great city and state for generations to come. This robust tree recycling program is another example of how New Orleans will continue to lead in combatting the global climate crisis while promoting innovative opportunities to create a better, greener and more vibrant community. So far, recycled trees have restored an area of marsh equal to approximately 200 football fields. Thank you to our residents who continue to donate their Christmas trees year after year to enhance our coastline restoration efforts."
The program is coordinated by the City's Office of Resilience and Sustainability (ORS) and Department of Sanitation, in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Louisiana National Guard.
“We’re bringing attention to the Christmas Tree Recycling Program today because Black Friday and Small Business Saturday are popular days for New Orleanians to buy and decorate live Christmas trees,” said Director of Economic Development Jeff Schwartz. “The City can only accept trees without tinsel and flocking, and we ask residents to please consider this while decorating your tree.”
“While we are making great progress, protecting our natural resources remains more important than ever for New Orleans,” said ORS Deputy Chief Resilience Officer Greg Nichols. "The Christmas Tree Recycling Program is a great way for residents to get involved in the fight to restore our coast.”
Residents are encouraged to place their trees curbside for collection by Department of Sanitation contractors from Jan. 8 - 12, 2024. Trees cannot be flocked, and all ornamentation must be removed before placing them on the curb. Once they are collected, they will be sorted, bundled and airlifted by helicopter and dropped in targeted sections of the Bayou Sauvage Urban National Wildlife Refuge. The City’s goal is to collect 10,000 trees this year.
“The annual Christmas Tree Drop represents a long-standing partnership between the Louisiana National Guard and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service," said Louisiana National Guard, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Gabriel Ruiz. "It benefits the City of New Orleans and surrounding coastal environment, while also providing valuable training hours for our pilots and crewmembers of the 1st Assault Helicopter Battalion, 244th Aviation Regiment."
“I’d like to thank the residents of New Orleans for sharing their Christmas trees with us each year and making their contribution to coastal restoration," said USFWS Refuge Manager Shelley Stiaes. "Their tradition of donating Christmas trees is helping to rebuild our coastline and build habitat for wildlife."

We are picky cocktail people and there is a lot of mediocre stuff out there in cans but we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the TipTop ready-to-drink cocktails. So stop by to do some holiday shopping and taste with Alex while you're there - we'll feature our favorites - Espresso Martini, Old Fashioned, Daiquiri and more!

How much daylight you’ll have on the shortest day of 2023
by: Maddie Rhodes, Addy Bink
DENVER (KDVR) — The darkest day of the year is nearly upon us.
This year, the “darkest” day of the year — when Americans get as little as six hours of daylight — lands on Dec. 21 (it’s usually around Dec. 21 or 22).
During the darkest or “shortest” day of the year — better known as the winter solstice — the northern hemisphere is tilted as far away from the sun as possible. This causes us in the U.S. to experience the least amount of sun during the day.
As you can guess, we have the opposite during the summer solstice, which occurs in June. That’s when we have the most sunlight during the day and the “shortest” night.
But first, we have to get through the shortest day of the year.
On Thursday, most parts of the country will have only about eight or nine hours of daylight.
In Denver, for example, residents will have nine hours and 22 minutes of sunlight, which is over five hours less than Denver’s longest day in June.

Viewers will meet Leah’s grandson, Edgar “Dook” Chase IV, who now oversees the restaurant’s kitchen; her niece Cleo Robinson, who joined Leah in the kitchen in 1980; and the restaurant’s newest chef, Leah’s great-granddaughter Zoe Chase. Paired with some of the menus are specialty cocktails crafted by Leah’s granddaughter Eve Marie Haydel, the restaurant’s beverage manager who has updated drink recipes from the restaurant’s earlier days. Granddaughter Chase Kamata narrates. Each 30-minute episode explores a new take on Creole classics and a different chapter of the restaurant’s history.
See it every Saturday at 10am and on Sundays at 11:30am. Watch on WYES-TV and stream on wyes.org/live and on the WYES and PBS Apps. Out of WYES’ viewing area?

LSU Athletics is proud to announce its year-long celebration of 100 Years in Tiger Stadium, highlighted by stadium upgrades, events, storytelling initiatives, and a season-long celebration throughout the 2024 campaign.
Tiger Stadium, one of America’s most iconic sporting venues, first opened its gates on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1924. Since then, the Tigers have won 450 contests in Death Valley, which has been home to two Heisman Trophy winners, four national championship teams, and 12 SEC title-winning squads.
Included in the celebration are several upgrades to Tiger Stadium, including a new videoboard and lighting system, as well as other upgrades designed to enhance the game day experience. Other events and celebrations will be announced throughout the year.
The 2024 home schedule features several marquee matchups, including home contests against Oklahoma, UCLA, and Alabama. Information on the full 2024 schedule and season tickets will be announced in the coming weeks.
One of the most legendary stadiums in all of college football, Tiger Stadium has been called “the best place in the world to watch a sporting event” by ESPN and “the pound-for-pound king of noise in college football.”
Entering its centennial season in 2024, Tiger Stadium has been a cornerstone of LSU Athletics and the Louisiana community for almost a century, hosting numerous NFL superstars, Heisman Trophy winners, and Hall of Famers since its opening in 1924. It serves as a sporting, cultural, and commercial hub for LSU Athletics, which contributes an estimated $500 million of economic activity for the state of Louisiana annually.

Professor Carl Nivale
Welcoming the new marching krewe, Krewe Mosaïque! They have their first parade on January 13th, from Armstrong Park to Ursuline Convent. Your favorite Professor and Grand Marshal Marty Graw look forward to being there!
#Carnival2024 #MardiGras2024 #OurCarnivalHeritage #krewemosaique
https://www.axios.com/.../new-krewe-mardi-gras-parade...
A new walking krewe will debut for Mardi Gras 2024, marching through the French Quarter on Jan. 13.
Why it matters: The event fills in an otherwise parade-free weekend during the weekslong celebration of Carnival in New Orleans.
What's happening: Krewe Mosaïque will march for 12 blocks from Armstrong Park to the Ursuline Convent for the first time.
- This year's krewe will max out at 200 members, and organizers are putting an emphasis on DIY elements, handmade throws and cultural or historical relevance to the city.
- The idea stems from the krewe's founding members preference for DIY costuming and contraption-building.
What she's saying: "Everything is bright and colorful and very unique unto themselves, but when we come together, it's this beautiful experience, like a mosaic," says Krewe Mosaïque founder Terese Aiello.
