Principal's Message
We are now into our testing window for CoGat and IOWA Assessments for students in grades 1-7. CoGat testing for grades 2-7 will be administered Thursday, February 28- Friday, March 1. IOWA Assessments will be administered the following week, March 4-8. Please speak with your child(ren) about the importance of this testing, and also avoid using these dates for family trips, appointments, or other occasions that would prevent your child from attending school.

The CoGat and IOWA Assessments publishing company updated the national norms and testing materials for this school year, which will be used for the next several years. In doing so, they are allowing schools to test students online instead of the traditional format using scanning sheets. As a result, grades 4-7 will be online. Today, we worked with all students in grades 4-7 on a tutorial that showed them exactly how to take the assessment. This online tutorial replicates a testing session which students will experience during the assessments. It showed sample problems, how to correctly mark the answer, and how to navigate to screen features. Additionally, students in these grades levels should be accustomed to online testing, as they have now gone through two cycles of MAP testing. Changing to the online assessments will place GA students in a comfortable and knowledgeable position as all schools will be moving in this direction through the newly normed assessments. Please click here for a reference sheet which will show some of the features of the students’ screens.

Families Asked to Re-Enroll This Week for 19-20 School Year
We opened enrollment to all families, new and current, at our Open House on Sunday, January 27. Thank you to all the families who took advantage of our early re-enrollment period for current families. Over half our families have re-enrolled for next school year! In reviewing enrollment numbers for next school year, we are asking all current families to re-enroll by March 1 . After this deadline, we cannot guarantee a spot for your child for the 2019-2020 school year. Many prospective families have contacted us through the Open House, tours, and other inquiries and are eager to attend Guardian Angels next school year. Also, by re-enrolling by this deadline, we will be best able to adequately and appropriately staff our grade levels for next year. It is very important to us that we have all re-enrollment completed by March 1 so that administrative decisions can be made early.
If you have not re-enrolled your children for the 19-20 school year, please remember this is a two-step re-enrollment process.
  • First, you will complete an electronic form through Administrator’s Plus Online Forms that can be accessed from the email you received last month. This step must be completed for each child you are enrolling.
  • Second, you must also complete a payment which includes registration and technology fees. The payment for these combined fees will be collected through the WeShare payment site.
The email you received January 18th from Bob Buck included instructions and links to the Administrator’s Plus Online Forms and the WeShare payment site. Both re-enrollment steps must be completed for full registration into next school year.
Our preschool classes for next school year are already very close to being full! There is very limited availability in all programs. If you have not already re-enrolled, or know of someone planning to enroll, please do so now!
The preschool process is separate from the KDG-8 th  grade process. If you are re-enrolling in preschool and KDG-8, you will need to fill out online re-enrollment forms for all of your returning students using Administrator’s Plus Online Forms and then make two payments at the WeShare payment site: one for your re-enrolling student(s) in preschool and one for your re-enrolling student(s) in KDG-8 th  grade. Also, if you are a current family registering a new student in any grade level, a new student registration packet can be found through the school website or in the school office.
From the Nurse's Office
As you may be aware, we have had a lot of illness in our student population these past few weeks. It can be very difficult to decide when to keep children home from school, and when to have them return following an illness. We have noticed a fair number of students returning to school for a day, and either having to leave school that day, or then being sick again the following day.
In order to help, here are the guidelines from the CDC : "Those who get flu-like symptoms at school should go home and stay home until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medicine. Those who have emergency warning signs should get immediate medical care."
For those of you not affected, this is the CDC resource for avoiding the flu .

We appreciate your help in keeping everyone well this time of year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have.

Parent & Student Meeting - Human Sexuality
The Guardian Angels School Council has worked over the past year to research and develop a program that focuses on teaching students and parents about human sexuality and how bodies change during adolescent years. As a result of this work, we are excited to be able to offer a program, using the LoveEd resources, for both students and parents. Guardian Angels will host a parent meeting on March 13 at 6:00pm followed by gender-based presentations to students in grades 5 & 6 and 7 & 8 on Tuesday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 20 . Please use this link to register for the parent event.
Last Bagel Sale is This Friday
Goodbyes are always tough and this one's no different....It's the FINAL bagel sale of the school year so let's make it the best one! Please bring your angel to school a few minutes early on Friday, March 1st for breakfast with friends. As always, the menu includes: bagels (with or without cream cheese), granola bars, and juice boxes. The sale will run from 7:25-7:55am in the main entrance hallway and each item only costs $1. All proceeds go toward the 8th Grade graduation activities. Thank you so much for your support!
Lost and Found
Have you noticed your child has somehow misplaced his/her winter coat, a glove, hat or lunchbox? We are overflowing with items that have not found their way home. Come check in the lost and found (located next to the Nurse's Office) and see if you can find that missing item. We go through and try to return all items with names on them, so you may want to take this opportunity to put your family name in everything that comes to school with your child.
