Principal's Message
Congratulations to Holly Leach and all of the students involved in The King and I ! Performances on Thursday and Friday were exceptional! Many months of preparation go into a show of this caliber and all of the hard work paid off in two engaging shows! Thank you to all of the show’s attendees, as well! You can see photos from the performances on our Facebook page .

Our 8th grade students leave on Monday, April 1, for the annual trip to Washington D.C. A full itinerary has been developed and includes a tour of the White House, Capitol Building, FBI Building, and Arlington National Cemetery. Students will visit the Holocaust Museum, Smithsonian Museums, as well as many significant memorials. They also plan to celebrate Mass with Fr. Fernandes at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception! Please keep our students and faculty members in your prayers for a safe, enjoyable, and productive experience in our nation’s capital.

Finally, on Thursday, students may wear Cincinnati Reds shirts to support our local team on Opening Day! Any red shirt is acceptable. This out of uniform day is tops only. Students should wear their regular uniform pants or the approved sweatpants. The first day for students to wear shorts is Monday, April 1!

Everybody Counts Week
As part of our Everybody Counts Programming our students in grades 1-8 will be participating this week in hands on activities and listening to speakers from the community about the importance of inclusion and understanding of peers and adults with physical and cognitive challenges. 
 
Our goal for the Everybody Counts program is to highlight what those with physical and cognitive disabilities CAN do!
 
Different groups are using hands-on activities, personal stories, and other activities today to teach our students exactly how Everybody Counts!
  • 2nd Grade - Representatives with The Hearing Speech and Deaf Center (yesterday)
  • 1st Grade - Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visual Impairment
  • 3rd Grade – Viewing and discussing the award winning film “Ethan the Brave” written by Sara Bitter. This film was featured in the 2013 Cincinnati Reel Abilities Film festival and focuses on inclusion and acceptance of peers with cognitive and/ or physical challenges.
  • 4th through 8th Grades – Students are coming together for an assembly on Disability Awareness and understanding. Part of this program will include a demonstration on wheel chair basketball. This program will be facilitated by the local organization Skool Aid. The presenter Jacob Counts is 3 year NCAA Wheelchair Basketball Championship, 2008 Paralympian in Beijing China, Played Professional wheelchair basketball in Italy and Germany for 6 years and is head coach of Cincinnati Dragon. The Disability Awareness Program is a unique presentation that dispels myths about persons who live with disabilities. It will demonstrate to our students how they can be successful in and out of the classroom.

School Office Volunteers Needed
The school office is in need of volunteers to work the front desk greeting guests, answering phones, and watching the doors. A volunteer is needed consistently on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00-1:00pm. If you are interested, please contact Jill Buchmann .
Family Rosary Each Thursday
Every Thursday, our parish hosts Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 3:00-9:00pm in the church. We are looking for individuals, families, classes or other groups who would be interested in leading our Family Rosary, which begins our time of prayer. Anyone who is interested may sign up using this link .

Boy Scout Mulch Sale
The Annual Boy Scout Troop 445 Mulch Sale has begun. This is our 6th year for selling mulch. The scouts earn money for troop campouts and summer camp. This is our only fund raiser of the year. Our delivery dates for this year are April 26 and 27 . The order form is attached , or you can come see us at Guardian Angels Fish Fry. Orders must be postmarked BEFORE April 15th . Halo Hustle is May 17th
Mark your calendars for the GA 5k - The Halo Hustle! Our 12th annual 5k event will take place May 17th at 6:30pm and includes a run/walk, kids fun course, and a post-race party!
 
Join us for a scenic 5K Run/Walk through the neighborhoods of Mt. Washington with music and fans cheering you on along the way. Stay for the after-party and awards ceremony to enjoy live music by the Marshall Street Project , food trucks, beverages, and kids entertainment which includes a Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course! All proceeds benefit Guardian Angels School.
 
New for 2019:
  • Refer a Friend! If you refer at least 3 friends, you will receive $10 back on your registration!
  • Start or join a team! Do you have a student at GA? Join his/her homeroom team so the class can win a pizza party!

After School Enrichment Opportunities

These projects are unbelievable! We're each creating a book of animal handprints, a paper mache ice cream cone, and a clay taco. Depending on grade & desire of participants, each project will have different choices & level of difficulty.

End the school year by making your own painted paper kite collage, some clay bugs, and a unique tissue paper flower bowl. Depending on grade & desire of participants, each project will have different choices & level of difficulty.

Life Skillz 101 Grades: 3-6
Mondays April 8 & 15 from 2:45 - 4:45pm
Through interactive role play and fun hands-on activities, students will learn the meaning of manners and respectful behavior. Topics include table manners at home, at a nice restaurant, and at a family gathering. We will also explore manners in public places. We will help them understand personal space, and how to respect people who have disabilities. Other topics will also include manners when hosting or attending a party, playdate or sleepover, and how to write a thank you note! Your kids will come home excited to set the table!

2019 Football & Cheer Registration Open Through April 30th
Registration is now open for all students interested in playing football or cheerleading for Guardian Angels next year. Registration is available on the Athletics Boosters website through April 30th . When registering, make sure you enter your child's grade level for the 2019-2020 school year.
Parish News
Fish Fry Fridays
Guardian Angels hosts a fish fry dinner every Friday during Lent in the undercroft from 5:00-7:30. There is no Fish Fry on Good Friday. Everyone is welcome!

There is plenty of food for families to eat-in or carry out. Fried and baked fish, shrimp, cheese pizza, mac-n-cheese, french fries,cole slaw, and baked goods.  Senior dining available for parishioners in Room B. There is also a craft corner for children. All crafts are $1 or less; please bring cash to the craft corner. Children must be attended by an adult at all times.

PTA is in charge of running the Bake Sale Table  at each Fish Fry. They are looking for people who will make/donate baked goods for the table. They also need volunteers to work the bake sales. You can sign-up to do either here . If you have any questions, contact Margaret Dunn .
40 Days for Life
Over the past years Guardian Angels parish has volunteered to cover two of the 40 Days for Life event where we have someone continually praying from 7:00am to 7:00pm at Planned Parenthood’s abortion facility. Many of our working parishioners try to cover our early and late hours and those available during the day fill the hours in between.
 
Please consider joining us as many of our “regulars” can no longer participate mainly for health reasons. Wigs for Kids Community Service Opportunity
Tired of giving up the same old thing for Lent? Want to make a real sacrifice that will make a difference in the life of a child AND earn six hours of community service? Join us Thursday, April 11, from 3:00-6:00pm in the Guardian Angels Cafeteria and donate 12 inches of hair to Wigs for Kids . Not enough hair to donate? Stop by, learn about Wigs for Kids.. Guardian Angels Follies: Hooray for Folliewood
GA Follies presents  Hooray for Folliewood   April 26, 27, 28, May 3, and 4  . This will be the group's 56th production!

Tickets to the show are $15 and can be purchased online or at the door. All shows begin at 8:00pm except for the April 28th performance which begins at 3:00pm.

Guardian Angels Follies is a Parish Service Organization that has been dedicated to raising funds for the Guardian Angels Church and School for more than five decades. Funds raised have helped bring to life projects such as the Science Lab, Parish Center, student scholarship fund, steeple lighting and many more.


AngelsFest is June 7, 8, 9
Our annual parish festival will be held June 7, 8, and 9 . AngelsFest is the parish's largest fundraising event of the year! You will find plenty of great food and drinks, rides, and games for adults and children of all ages. We will also have live entertainment all weekend long!

Family Mission Trip - June 13-16
Guardian Angels Parish is gearing up for its 5th annual Family Mission Trip to Frenchburg, KY on June 13-16 . This family-friendly mission trip will include service projects for all ages and skill levels. Projects may include construction, landscaping, painting, crafting, food preparation, and visiting the sick or elderly. See the Family Mission Trip Flyer for more information.

Roar Into Vacation Bible School
Life is wild for kids – full of ups and downs and twists and turns. At ROAR VBS, kids will deepen their friendship with a mighty, loving and good God who empowers them to boldly face life’s challenges.
 
Bible Camp runs from Monday, June 17th through Thursday, June 20th , 9:00am until 12:00pm each day.
 
Children ages 5-8, (incoming kindergarten through incoming 3rd grade) are welcome to attend.
 
The cost for GA Bible Camp is $45 per camper. Included in this fee is a GA bible camp t-shirt, snacks and crafts! We will have music, story time and games all week long.
 
The Registration Form and Archdiocese Release Form may be found on the Religious Education page of the parish website . A separate registration form and release form must be completed for each child.
Camp GAudeo
Camp GAudeo is coming on June 24-28 ! This fun summer camp is held at the parish and is open to students (of any school, church or faith) currently in grades 5-8. Activities include Field Day, Castle Skateland, Run Jump-N-Play, Coney Island, service projects, and more. Cost is $110 per student through the month of April, with scholarships available. Please note that the cost will increase to $125 per student for late registrations in the month of May . Visit the Camp GAudeo website for details or registration, and pass along the invitation.  
Upcoming School Masses
Students will participate in grade level Masses during the week of April 1st.
These Masses begin at 8:15am. The schedule is as follows:
Tuesday: Grades 4-5
Wednesday: Grades 6-7
Thursday: Grades K-3

For a calendar of upcoming Mass times, log into your parent portal in  Rediker . Click on the Calendar, the box with the arrow, found on the right side of your home page. School Masses are shown in the light blue color. Or you can make a selection in the filter drop down, to the right above the calendar dates, to just show School Masses.
 
Parents and other family members are invited to attend any Mass your child will be attending. You are also welcome to bring any younger siblings with you.  
Reminders
Box Tops Collections
The Guardian Angels PTA is collecting Box Tops from various consumer products. GA students can submit Box Tops to their homeroom teachers and all parishioners can drop off Box Tops in the special collection envelope located on the bulletin board in the Church Gathering Space. The Box Tops will be picked up May 19.
We use the funds earned to purchase indoor recess games and outdoor recess equipment. Please start collecting Box Tops today and help us make this year even more successful! 
Cookie Ministry
Guardian Angels School Cookie Ministry teams up with the Parish Parish Peanut Butter group to feed families in need. The Peanut Butter group makes 1,500 peanut butter and bologna sandwiches. GA students donate cookies. St. Francis Seraph Church in Over-the-Rhine gives the food to families in need. Students are asked to bring in two dozen cookies, brownies, or rice krispie bars on their classroom's designated day. They do need to be bagged, two treats per bag. All kindergarten classes are responsible for the next donation on Monday, April 1st. A   complete schedule for the school year is attached.   .
School Calendar
Looking for more information about upcoming events at GA? You can find a calendar in your Rediker Parent Portal. Log into your account, then click on the Calendar on the blue navigation bar. The calendar shows school events, parish events, and much more. Just a reminder, events posted on the school website, www.gaschool.org , only include those open to the public or new families who may not have activated a Rediker account yet. All other event information is posted in Rediker, which is password protected.

Have you signed up for Kroger Community Rewards and designated GA as your beneficiary? The more families who register, the more money our school receives through the program. Kroger Community Rewards offers a great way for you to support our school's technology fund...and you don't have to spend a penny. Register your rewards card  online  and select Guardian Angels as your beneficiary. You can search for GA or use our NPO number, 80200. The amount Guardian Angels receives depends on the points our supporters rack up while grocery shopping. Enrolling does NOT impact the points you use to redeem for discounts at the pump.c
