Principal's Message

Last Friday, November 12, marked the end of the first trimester for the 2021-2022 school year. Report cards will be sent home on Friday, December 3. The first trimester was filled with many exciting activities, engaging lessons, meaningful projects, and students earning their HALO by being Honest, Accountable, and a Leader to Others! I look forward to watching the students grow spiritually, academically, and emotionally as we progress through the rest of the year.

This will be the last Wednesday Herald sent before Thanksgiving. I sincerely wish each family a blessed Thanksgiving, recognizing all the Lord has provided for us and our families.

God bless,

Corey Stoops

Join Us In Funding Future Angels On November 30th

Our school has allowed our Angels a magnificent place to grow for more than 100 years. Students leave our school with a strong Catholic core and are ready to compete with the top learners in a competitive academic world. Every year we strive to provide a top-notch education for all of our families.

Our school has done a phenomenal job keeping our students in school through the COVID pandemic, allowing them to learn in-person every day. But it is not just about staying on course; we strive to do better. Guardian Angels School has been a leader in technology for years and we are determined to continue Funding Future Angels. Our plans to help accomplish this in the coming year include creating a new STEM Makerspace for our students and upgrading the camera systems around our campus. Details for both are below:

New STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Makerspace

  • Add new worktables that are collapsible and movable and new complementing chairs
  • Convert one wall to customizable shelving and storage for makerspace materials
  • Installation of dedicated CAD computers
  • Installation of new 3D printers
  • Installation of new Laser cutting machine
  • Camera Upgrades

Make all existing cameras viewable via one simple web interface

  • True redundant 30-day motion event video storage
  • Allow for the support of IP cameras so higher resolution IP cameras can be powered/data connected with one network cable run
  • System can be accessed via the web without opening ports to our network to the internet
  • Swap current cameras with higher resolution cameras
  • Add new IP cameras to cover more areas of our campus

We are asking for your help to make these projects happen. This will be our school’s single largest fundraiser for the year.

Consider supporting Guardian Angels School on Giving Tuesday! Giving Tuesday is the week after Thanksgiving. The nonprofit giving movement began as a way for people to give back to their community, after they’ve splurged on holiday shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We hope you prayerfully consider a donation to Guardian Angels on Giving Tuesday - November 30th. We also invite you to encourage friends and family to make a donation that supports your children’s education experience.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 on Giving Tuesday. If we reach this goal, our students will earn an out-of-uniform day every Friday in December!

Be on the lookout for an email on November 30th with a specific link to donate to this one-day fundraising campaign. Donations made on November 30th, through our online platform, will not be assessed by the Archdiocese – meaning your entire donation stays with Guardian Angels. Offline donations (cash or checks) or donations made on a different day are not included in this assessment waiver.

Inclement Weather Notice

As we approach the cold and snowy season, we would like to remind families of our plan for any changes in operation. There is no way to predict any of the possible circumstances for any forecasted storm, but it is important to stress a few items to be prepared for this unpredictability. Please keep the following items in mind as we approach the wet and cold weather:

  1. Guardian Angels School will notify parents of any operational changes through our all-call system. A test of this system was administered in August. This is the most immediate and reliable way to be notified of any changes.
  2. Local media will also be informed of any changes under the name “Guardian Angels School;” however, the most reliable notification is our all-call system.
  3. Generally, we follow the Forest Hills School District; however, there are unique circumstances for that district and our school that could dictate different plans. Again, the best way to stay informed of any changes is through our all-call system.
  4. If there are special circumstances that are lengthy in communication, we will use our all-school email to notify parents of specific instructions and procedures.
  5. If we are operating on a two hour delay, school will officially begin at 10:00, with carline starting at 9:30. Please do not bring your child to school before 9:30, as a two hour delay could change to a school closing.
  6. Perhaps the most difficult situation is when the inclement weather does not begin until school has already started. We strongly consider the forecast ahead of time, hopefully avoiding the possibility of having to make this change throughout the school day. Our unique position of relying on five different school districts for busing adds to this difficult decision. If we are in school and a public district has made the decision to close early, all students of that district will be sent home when the buses arrive to Guardian Angels, unless we are notified differently from you. We will communicate all changes to you through our all-call system and/or email.

Pennies For Pies Was A Huge Success

Please share with your children how the spare change translated into all of those pies!

The classroom who raised the most money was Mrs. Myres with a grand total of $309.58. That class will enjoy a pizza party donated by the GA PTA. Thank you again for your continued support.

Angels For Good

There is a new project at Guardian Angels called Angels for Good. The mission of Angels for Good is to spread kindness, bring awareness to mental health, and to help those struggling. This includes those struggling with stress, anxiety, bullying, friends, family, and more.

To have the furthest reach possible, we have a team of ambassadors. Ambassadors are 8th grade students you can talk to when you are struggling. Our ambassadors are devoted to kindness, respect, and trust. Our ambassadors are Gracie Mastruserio, Josie Fortin, Mia Colonna, Liz Thurnau, Sophia Badell, Sarah Hutchinson, Lucia Moschandreas, Sarah Dwyer, Miranda Almer, Ben Helton, Chase Hadnett, and Freddie Kinney.

There are bulletin boards  in the primary, middle, and junior high hallways with positive affirmations, a list of members, and our mission statement. These student ambassadors are happy to have a role in helping the GA community!

Attendance Line

If your child will be absent or late to school, please call the main school office by 8:00 each morning. We recently upgraded our telephone system. In doing so, we removed the former “attendance line.” All parents needing to report their child absent or late to school should call our Office Assistant, Melissa Boston, using the main school phone number - 624-3141.

Christian Service Program - Faith in Action

The purpose of the Christian Service Program is to enhance the religion curriculum at Guardian Angels Church. It is the duty of all Christians to reach out in service to those around them. Christ asks us to be His hands and feet on earth, keeping His mission of reaching out to those in need alive. The students will complete their service within the following settings: at home, the parish community/school and the community at-large. This outreach may be completed individually, with a partner, or in a group.

This program will focus more on the meaning of the actual service opportunities rather than completing a prescribed amount of time. You will choose activities for each component—service to your family, service to your school/parish and service to the poor and vulnerable in our community. There is no minimum requirement of hours to complete. Grades 1-3 are required to complete at least 2 activities for each component; grades 4-8 at least 3 for each. You are certainly encouraged to complete more! See your Religion teacher, Mrs. Froehlich, or the parish website for a list of suggested activities and the log sheet.

Questions? Contact Kay Froehlich, Director of Religious Education, for more information.
