Principal's Message

As we continue to guide our students through the 2025-2026 school year, we are also hard at work planning and preparing for a smooth and successful 2026-2027 school year. Many important pieces are coming together as we thoughtfully coordinate schedules, programs, and staffing to best support our students and families. Listed below are several items we are able to share with you at this point, and I will continue to notify you through the Wednesday Herald for additional updates.

Staffing

Please join me in celebrating and honoring the following employees who have chosen to begin new chapters and will not be returning next year.

We are deeply grateful for their dedication, their gifts, and the lasting impact they have made on our school community.

  • Jeanne Rasfeld is re-retiring—and what an incredible career she has had! Jeanne began her journey at GA, spent 37 years at Batavia Elementary, and then returned to us to complete her remarkable 43-year career in education. It has been a true joy to welcome her back. She is adored by her students and highly respected by her colleagues. Her wealth of experience, warm personality, and steady presence will be dearly missed.
  • Cindy Sizemore, our wonderful administrative assistant, is resigning to enjoy more time traveling to visit her children, embracing new adventures, and expanding her volunteer work. Cindy has been a cornerstone of our school office, creating a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment for students, staff, and parents alike. Her positive energy, gracious spirit, and constant smile have brightened every day—we will miss her tremendously.
  • Nancy Luehrmann is retiring after three impactful years as a primary aide and as a Religion teacher to many of our students. Nancy’s calm presence, selfless willingness to help, and natural ability to connect with children have enriched countless classrooms. Her quiet kindness and steadfast support will be greatly missed.

In the coming weeks, I will begin posting for the administrative assistant position with the goal of hiring a positive, welcoming, and engaging individual who can work alongside Cindy before the school year ends. Teaching and aide positions will be posted in early March. All open positions will be available on our school website and on the Catholic Schools Office employment page.

Preschool

Demand across all grade levels is at an all-time high, and this is especially true in our preschool and pre-K programs. To accommodate as many active parishioners as possible, we will be increasing class sizes in one preschool section and one pre-K section for next year.

  • Preschool: Lisa Peters will teach a class of 16 students, while the other two preschool classrooms will remain at 12 students each.
  • Pre-K: Hope Jacob will teach a class of 18 students, while the other two pre-K classrooms will remain at 14 students each.

To ensure full compliance with state ratio guidelines, both of these larger classrooms will have two adults present at all times.

Calendar

The 2026-2027 school calendar is actively being worked on, and I hope to be able to publish it to the community through the Wednesday Herald on February 18.

God Bless,

Corey Stoops

Recognizing Our Amazing Teachers!

Everyone knows that Guardian Angels boasts some of the most amazing teachers and staff members! Each week, we want to recognize two of them and shower them with love and appreciation. This week we celebrate our Kindergarten Teacher, Julie Bunton, and our Speech Language Pathologist, Rebecca Kemer.

We are incredibly grateful to have Julie as part of our primary team. Her creativity and thoughtfulness shine through in her lessons, and she diligently ensures that every student is learning. Julie provides a nurturing environment for all, and we feel truly blessed to have her welcome our students into the kindergarten classroom. Thank you, Julie, for everything you do!

We are truly grateful to have Rebecca as a member of our services team. Rebecca's kindness and patience with our students receiving speech services are invaluable, and she is always willing to lend a helping hand. Rebecca, thank you for your patience and for making our students feel accepted and valued.

Please join us in recognizing and celebrating these two outstanding GA staff members. You can leave a kind note here. Notes, cards, emails, flowers, gift cards, etc. are always appreciated!

Junior High- Heating Troubles

In three of the junior high classrooms, the heat is not functioning properly. Technicians have been in throughout the past week to fix the issue and we are hopeful everything is back to normal soon. It is recommended that junior high students wear uniform pants/leggings and sweatshirts. They may also wear coats, hats, and gloves, if they would like. We are all ready for warmer weather!

Valentines for Local Nursing Homes

After masses this weekend in the Gathering Space, GA’s class of 2027 is selling LED light up roses for $5 a piece. These artificial flowers will be delivered to local nursing home residents along with an accompanying Valentine from a student. Last year was the first year of a Valentine delivery, and the feedback we received from the nursing home staff and residents was one of overwhelming gratitude. Please consider supporting this cause to bring joy and cheer to local nursing home residents!

2026-2027 Scholarship Applications Due February 28th

Catholic Education Foundation

The Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati is offering tuition assistance scholarships for the 2026-2027 school year for Preschool-8th grade students. Any family not scheduled to receive the full EdChoice scholarship amount for next school year should apply for assistance through this portal. This is the same portal that Guardian Angels also uses to determine award amount using our school/parish funds. Many families did not receive the full EdChoice scholarship amount due to family income being too high, already being on the Jon Peterson Scholarship, or another reason. The CEF, along with GA funds, can be used to assist these families.

To apply, families will need to fully complete a FACTS Grant and Aid application by inputting financial information (income, assets, and household income). FACTS then uses an internally built calculation to determine financial need based on the family's ability to pay. FACTS applications may be completed now and are due February 28th. For more information, click here.

EdChoice

We are now accepting EdChoice documents for the 2026-2027 school year for families of current students seeking renewal and initial requests for new students. Families will need to submit the following documentation to edchoice@gaschool.org.

  1. EdChoice 2026-2027 Renewal Form for any child currently receiving the EdChoice Scholarship.
  2. EdChoice 2026-2027 Request Form for any child not currently receiving the EdChoice Scholarship (new/initial application).
  3. Current utility bill (dated February 2026) showing a matching service and mailing address.

Please note that any signatures on your application must be a physical signature, not an electronic one, as per the state’s guidelines. Any applications with electronic signatures will not be accepted and will need to be resubmitted.

If you are renewing a scholarship from a previous year, do not fill out an Income Verification Form, unless you experienced a loss/reduction in income throughout the fiscal year. This will help maximize your scholarship amount.

All scholarship applications are due February 28th.

Great News for Anyone Who Pays Ohio Income Tax and Supports Guardian Angels

We have many students at Guardian Angels who benefit from scholarships provided by the Catholic Education Foundation (CEF). Ohio taxpayers who donate to the CEF may be able to claim a dollar-for-dollar, non-refundable tax credit on their state income tax return, up to $750 per donor. For more information, click here.

We hope you consider a donation before the end of the year and choose "Guardian Angels School (Cincinnati)(C00160)" from the drop-down when prompted.

Parishioner and tax expert, Brien Dulle, is donating. Here's what he had to say. "Supporting the CEF is a no-brainer for me for two reasons. As a graduate of GA that is also sending my daughters to the school, I want to invest in the education that our children receive. Secondly, there's no extra money out of pocket since I can claim a dollar-for-dollar Ohio tax credit."

Cafeteria Volunteers Needed

We are always in need of helpful hands to keep an eye on our students in grades K-8 during lunch. Please consider sharing a small part of your day to assist. All volunteers must be SafeParish trained. If you are interested, please sign up!

Partner with the PTA

Calling all local businesses and organizations! The GA Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is looking for community partners to help us create meaningful opportunities for our students and families. Consider partnering with the PTA as a sponsor or hosting a giveback!

Giveback: a pre-defined event set by the PTA and your company where we market your company to our community of families and encourage attendance and a portion of proceeds from sales at the company are given back to the PTA.

  • Examples: Restaurant night where a % of sales supports the PTA, retail shop donating a portion of weekend sales, service-based business offering a special PTA promotion.

Sponsorship: a strategic partnership with the PTA where a company provides financial support in exchange for visibility and brand promotion at highly attended PTA events!

  • Benefits may include: your company logo placement on event signage and flyers; recognition in school newsletters and social media; direct connection with hundreds of local families.

How to Learn More/Express Interest:

  1. Fill out this survey (https://forms.gle/M3eTtvB6uRPmdX2a7) if you think your company would be interested in a potential partnership with GA!
