Principal/Assistant Principal for the Day

Third graders Zoe Pawelec and Kennedy Lovett took over administrative responsibilities last week by serving as Principal & Assistant Principal for the Day. This was a package won at the Parish Bid and Buy last year. It was a great day filled with many administrative tasks such as conducting a lockdown, completing announcements, attending meetings, and supervising classrooms. As part of the major decisions they faced, they were passionate that an out-of-uniform day is needed! As such, all students may be out of uniform on Friday, May 23rd. Uniform bottoms or the approved sweatpants must be worn. Another part of day was for Zoe to write about why she believes GA is great. Here is what she wrote!

GA is great because we have awesome specials like art, gym, music, and Spanish. We also have recess two times a day, which is pretty awesome. The teachers are very nice and comforting. Our nurse, Elizabeth Piles, has very nice treatment if needed. Lockers get handed out in fourth grade. There is a raffle for the parents to try and get their kid to be the principal for the day!

Summer Assignments

Math

Each student entering 1st-8th grades is required to complete a Summer Solutions Math book over the summer break. Books can be purchased through the Summer Solutions website. Please order the standards-based mathematics book for the grade level your child just completed. These books are also available in many bookstores as well as on Amazon.

Reading

In order to help students maintain their skills in Reading during the summer months, all students going into grades 1 – 8 are asked to read one required book as listed below.

Grade Level - Title of book

1 - Let's Go for a Drive, by Mo Willems

2 - Get Ready for Second Grade, Amber Brown, by Paula Danziger

3 - Third Grade Angels, by Jerry Spinelli

4 - Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, by Judy Blume

5 - The Lemonade War, by Jacqueline Davies

6 - Because of Mr. Terupt, by Rob Buyea

7 - Please follow this link for more details.

8 - The Last Book in the Universe, by Rodman Philbrick

Celebrating Our Staff

At yesterday’s all-school Mass, we celebrated three of our faculty members and their years of service to Guardian Angels. Angie Smith and Margaret Dorson-King celebrated 25 years of teaching at Guardian Angels. Additionally, we celebrated Matt Musselman and his retirement from CPS. We are so grateful for their many years of dedication to GA.

Last Day of School

Our last day of school is scheduled for Friday, May 30th. Bus service will be available in the morning, but there will be no bus transportation for dismissal. All students must be picked up from school. We will conclude the school year at mass with the circle song. Mass begins at 9 am. After mass, students will return to their classrooms and all students will be dismissed at 10:30 am. Report cards and student awards will be sent home on the final day.

Cafeteria Schedule

The cafeteria will be closed during the final week of school. The final day for hot lunches to be served is Friday, May 23rd.

School Supply Kits Available to Order for Next Year

School supply kits for kindergarten through 8th grade are now available to purchase for the coming year. It offers convenience for parents to have all of your child's needed items collected and ready for the start of the school year. The prepared kits are delivered to your home before classes begin.

Participation in this program is not required. When ordering supply kits, or purchasing your own supplies, remember to use the list for the grade your child will be entering, NOT his/her current grade. All students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade must have a Texas-Instruments TI-30Xa calculator, so please purchase one if needed.

Click here to order your child's supply kit. If parents would like to shop on their own, grade-level supply lists can be found here

The deadline to order supply kits is July 1st.

Preschool families will get information from their teachers about their supplies.

Book Swap in the Library

It is hard to believe that we are already facing the end of the school year! To celebrate, we are having a “Book Swap” in the library May 12th-23rd. Clean off those home bookshelves and bring in gently used books to trade for new books for summer. There is no limit on the number of books brought in, but please make sure they are appropriate for our school and in good condition. For every book brought in, students will receive a ticket to trade in for another book. Any leftover books will be donated. What a great way to “spring clean” and get some new books for summer reading!

Cafeteria Position

We’re excited to announce a part-time job opening in our elementary school cafeteria! This is a fun, fast-paced position perfect for parents who want to stay connected to their children’s school day. You’ll be helping to prepare and serve meals, work with a friendly team, and enjoy the chance to see your kids every day. If you’re looking for a rewarding way to get involved in our school community while working part-time, we’d love to have you join us!

Please contact Tricia Mathers at 513-324-7532.
