Principal's Message

Guardian Angels has taken many proactive steps to increase security on our campus over the past years. We have established many effective practices to keep our community safe, such as secured doors throughout the school day, security cameras at all entrances and other locations throughout the campus, practicing drills with students and staff, developing a comprehensive safety plan, and working with the community to contact us if something does not look or feel right. Continuing with this proactive approach, we have contracted with the School Safety Specialist for the Hamilton County Educational Services Center to guide and partner with us throughout the upcoming school year.

The first action item with our School Safety Specialist was to evaluate what we are doing well and identify potential areas we need to further review. As such, we conducted a vulnerability assessment in early August and met with our School Safety Specialist this week to review his findings. Through this, it was very evident that we have solid plans, procedures, and policies in place that are highly effective.

As always, there are also areas where we need to devote additional resources, and we will focus on these areas throughout the year. Some changes are short-term, no-cost items we are already working to implement. Other opportunities are much larger in scale and will be evaluated as we move forward. To assist with this process, the Education Board will be tasked with school safety as the top agenda item for the school year.

Please join me and the entire Guardian Angels staff in prioritizing the safety of our community and practicing a culture of safety by contacting the school office if something does not look right, making sure doors are properly secured after entering or exiting a building, not propping doors open, and carrying the mindset of safety first!

God bless,

Corey Stoops

Health Update

Between 8/17/22-8/23/22, 7 community members tested positive for COVID:

  • Staff member
  • 1st Grade
  • 5th Grade
  • 6th Grade (3)
  • 8th Grade

Thank you to all the parents who continue to contact the school nurse with notifications about positive cases, exposures within the family, and other health-related items. This strong communication allows us to properly notify our community of positive cases which we hope will prevent additional spread within the school, and prevent bringing it home to vulnerable loved ones.

Since we started school last week, 11 community members have tested positive for COVID-19; 10 students and one staff member. Based on the high level of spread in the local area, the protocols we are currently using when notified of a positive case include:

  • Parent contacts school nurse, Elizabeth Pyles (513) 624-2191 to inform us that a positive case is present.
  • Positive student must isolate for 5 days and wear a mask for 10 days from onset of symptoms or date of positive test, or use testing to remove their mask earlier, per CDC recommendations.
  • School sends email notification to parents in the grade level of the student testing positive.
  • Recommendation is made for all students who could have been exposed in that grade level to mask for 10 days as they could have been exposed.
  • Requirement for siblings/members living with the positive student to mask for 10 days from last exposure to prevent spread in school.

We will continue to notify the community as these protocols evolve.

Change in Dismissal/Notice of Absence

Changes in afternoon dismissal occur frequently for our families, and we are happy to get messages to students. However, if you need to change how your child is getting home from school, please contact Melissa Boston by phone call before 2 p.m. All messages must come through the main school office. Please do not email teachers, as they do not always receive emails throughout the day. Calling the school will make sure we receive the message so we can properly inform your child of how they are getting home. Also, if your child is absent, please call the school to inform us of their absence. Again, emailing does not always ensure all the proper staff members receive notification. The main office phone number to be used in all instances of absence, change of dismissal, etc. is (513) 624-3141.

Christian Service Program - Faith in Action

The purpose of the Christian Service Program is to enhance the religion curriculum at Guardian Angels Church. It is the duty of all Christians to reach out in service to those around them. Christ asks us to be His hands and feet on earth, keeping His mission of reaching out to those in need alive. The students will complete their service within the following settings: at home, the parish community/school and the community at-large. This outreach may be completed individually, with a partner, or in a group.

This program will focus more on the meaning of the actual service opportunities rather than completing a prescribed amount of time. You will choose activities for each component—service to your family, service to your school/parish and service to the poor and vulnerable in our community. There is no minimum requirement of hours to complete. Grades 1-3 are required to complete at least 2 activities for each component; grades 4-8 at least 3 for each. You are certainly encouraged to complete more! See your Religion teacher, Mrs. Froehlich, or the parish website for a list of suggested activities and the log sheet.

Questions? Contact Kay Froehlich, Director of Religious Education, for more information.
