EdChoice Acceptance Letters



Each family accepting the EdChoice scholarship received an EdChoice Award letter mailed from the Ohio Department of Education and Workplace. As a school, we are required to retain this document at the school. If you have not sent this form to the school yet, please do so this week. If you misplaced your letter or did not receive one, please fill out the template here and return to the school office.

iReady Testing

Our students will begin iReady benchmark testing on September 8, with testing continuing through September 25. Different grade levels will test on different days during this window.

iReady is a computer-based assessment that helps us measure each student’s skills in reading and mathematics, identify areas of strength and areas that need additional support, and monitor academic growth throughout the school year.

We benchmark three times a year—fall, winter, and spring—so teachers can track progress, adjust instruction, and provide targeted interventions when needed. The spring iReady assessment also serves as our end-of-year Ohio state testing requirement for participating grade levels. Once testing is complete, we will provide parents with information explaining how to access and view their child’s iReady results.



We ask parents to help their children do their best by ensuring they are well rested, arrive at school on time, and eat a healthy breakfast on testing days. Your support helps our students feel prepared, confident, and ready to show what they know!

Safe Snack List

Please carefully review and follow our Safe Snack List when bringing food items to school for distribution to students. All food items brought in for distribution must be included on the Safe Snack List—no exceptions. If an item does not appear on the list, it may not be brought in or distributed to students. Homemade and bakery items are not permitted. Please verify that all items are on the approved list before purchasing or sending them to school.

Handbook Updates

The following items are changes or updates to existing policies and are included in the 2026-2027 Student Handbook. These policies/updates are being implemented as a result of concerns/issues experienced over the past year(s).

These changes should clarify expectations and provide guidance on consequences if expectations are not met. The full 26-27 Student Handbook can be found here.

Attendance

• Students arriving after the designated start time must report to the school office before going to class. Tardies are recorded in the school’s student information system.
• Family vacations should be scheduled during school breaks whenever possible. Absences for vacations or other non-emergency personal travel are considered unexcused absences.
• Excessive tardiness & absenteeism negatively impact student learning and may result in administrative review. More than 10 absences and/or 10 tardies may be considered excessive and could result in consequences including loss of privileges, exclusion from extracurricular activities, detention, or other disciplinary actions, including withdrawal from school or not being admitted for the following school year.

Homework

• If homework assignments are two days late, the student will miss all recess to complete their assignments until assignments are submitted. If assignments are not submitted one week after the due date, the student will receive a zero on the assignment.

Make-up

• Jr. High girls may wear light, natural make-up; other grades and other forms of make-up are not permitted at any time.
• Fingernail length should not extend beyond the tip of the finger.

Failing Grades

• If a student is failing one subject at the end of a trimester, proof of weekly outside tutoring in the failing subject will need to be submitted to school administration. If a student is failing two or more subjects at the conclusion of the year, the student may not be invited to return the following year.

Handbook and Other Agreements

Please be on the lookout for an email from our Rediker system containing a link to a form confirming that you have read and agree to the Handbook. The form will also contain statements for you to read through about photos of your student and the release of parent contact information with other parents. Please complete all sections by August 26.

A separate email will be sent to all families to complete the Family Low-Income form. All families must complete this form regardless of their financial situation. This form must be submitted by September 11.

Update on Corey Frank



Please continue to keep our P.E. teacher, Corey Frank, in your prayers. After successfully going through four rounds of chemotherapy throughout the summer and returned for the start of the school year. Today is his last day at school before he will have surgery and be out for several months to recover. Chrissy Waleskowski will be his long-term substitute during his absence. 

Afternoon Pickup Procedures

It is imperative that the proper carline procedures are followed. All parents must adhere to the following guidelines:

• All parents must park in one of the “Open Parking” spaces as identified in the email received earlier this week. Preferred parking, which will accommodate the majority of cars, is the Gathering Space side of the parking lot. Additional spaces are available on the bus side of the parking lot but only in the back row along the fence and the first row of the second bank of spaces. All other areas are needed for buses.
• All parents must get out of their vehicles to pick up their children in the designated Student Dismissal Area, as identified by the attached diagram. Students will not be permitted to leave this area unless accompanied by an adult. This applies to all KDG-8 grade students who are being picked up at the end of the day.
• Students must walk while in the parking lot; running is not permitted.
• Dismissal for car riders begins at 2:40. All parents should plan to pick up at this time. Students not picked up at this time will be sent to aftercare and families will incur the daily fee for the program.
• Bus transportation is available to nearly all families through the public school district in which they reside. We strongly encourage eligible families to take advantage of this transportation option. If you are interested in arranging bus service for your child, please contact Katie Caccavari in the school office. She will be happy to guide you through the process.

Thank you, in advance, for complying with our procedures as we continue to prioritize the safety of our students. Staff members will be out in the parking lot enforcing our policy to ensure compliance. Please share this information with anyone who may be picking your child up throughout the school year. 

Rediker Push Notifications

To receive email and push notifications from school parents need to opt in. This will allow emails to be sent to you regarding grades, attendance, missing assignments, and class announcements. To opt in and receive these notifications please follow the steps below. Meet the Teacher Night

Meet the Teacher Night for KDG-3rd grade parents is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2 and for parents of students in grades 4-8 on Thursday, September 3. Both events will begin at 6:00 and are for parents only. 

Lost Items

Please remember to label your child's clothing, lunch box, water bottle, etc. so that lost items can be easily returned.

Dues and Class Fees

Annual Dues – $100 per family

This single fee supports all three parent‑led organizations at Guardian Angels: PTA, Athletic Boosters, and Fine Arts Boosters. (The PTA facilitates collection.) We rely on your support to fund essential programs and improvements. 

• PTA Initiatives: Penny Fair, used uniform exchange, teacher appreciation events, recess equipment, capital school improvements, and direct support for classroom needs.
• Recent Impact: Last year’s fundraising supported the PTA’s development project of painting the remaining school interior hallways and stairwells and updating the nurse’s office and intervention teaching spaces. These spaces were painted and outfitted with all new furniture.
• Athletic Boosters: Funds help cover rising costs for uniforms, equipment, and league fees, and support ongoing turf field and grounds maintenance.
• Fine Arts Boosters: Supports performing and visual arts programs across all grade levels.

Class Fees – $20 per child

Funds cover supplies and snacks. Preschool–4th grade will have parties led by their classroom coordinators for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day. 5th–8th grade will enjoy pizza parties for these same events.

Teacher and Staff Christmas and End of Year Gifts

Teacher Gifts:

The PTA facilitates the collection of monetary gifts for the teachers and staff at GA for both Christmas and End of Year. This is not mandatory, but allows families to show appreciation without the need for individual gifts. Families who donated will be listed for the teachers.

Deadline to contribute: December 11

Christmas Gift:

• Preschool - 3rd grade - amount goes directly to the homeroom teacher.
• 4th - 8th grade - money is totaled at the grade level and split evenly between the teachers of those grades.
• Teacher Aides Christmas Gift- Preschool or primary (1st & 2nd grade) aides will receive a collective monetary gift that will be split evenly between the appropriate aides.
• Additional Staff Christmas Gift- Money collected for additional staff Christmas gifts is divided between specials teachers (spanish, art, halo bell, gym, music), custodial staff and any additional administrative staff. 

Year End Gift:

• Preschool - 3rd grade: the amount goes directly to the homeroom teacher.
• 4th - 8th grade: the money is totaled at the grade level and split evenly between the teachers of the grade.
• Specials: (Spanish, art, Halo Bell, gym, music) the money will be split evenly between them.

Attendance Line

All families must call the school office at 513-624-3141 for any attendance-related changes. This includes if a student is going to be absent or tardy, a change is needed for how a student will get home, or if a student needs to go home early. Calling will confirm that the school receives the message. Parents can call the school office at the number above at any time. Do not email changes to attendance/pick-up; always call the school office.

Lunch Service

Kaldi's Catering Services provides GA students with lunch offerings each day. Parents need to set up and pre-order lunches through the EZ Schools Apps platform. Limited lunch items are available for students who have active accounts with available funds on the day of service. Please create an account if you don't already have one.

SafeParish Training

We appreciate all our parent involvement on campus! To volunteer at Guardian Angels School or attend activities during the school day (class parties, lunch room volunteers, coaching, etc.) you must be SafeParish trained. Contact Joan Schoenhoeft with questions.

We are always in need of helpful hands to keep an eye on our students in grades K-8 during lunch. Please consider sharing a small part of your day to assist. All volunteers must be SafeParish trained. If you are interested, please sign up!

Classroom Coordinators Needed

The PTA needs your help to support our teachers and students this year and is looking for classroom coordinators for each homeroom. Multiple spots are available for each homeroom, so grab your friends and sign up!

Preschool-4th grade

• Three parties per year (Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day)
• Coordinators plan an hour-long party, including games, snacks, and crafts.
• We have plenty of ideas to share from past parties, so there is no need to feel overwhelmed if this is your first time signing up!

5th-8th grade

• Three pizza and movie parties (Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day)
• Coordinators collaborate with the teachers to pick up pizza and select a movie.

Preschool-Kindergarten Soccer Registration is Open

Registration for the Co-Ed soccer league on Friday nights is OPEN! This introductory program is open to Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten students/parishioners. 1-hour sessions will be held on the turf field at GA on September 11th, 18th, 25th, and October 2nd, 9th, 16th. Sessions will focus on basic skills for 40 minutes and a fun scrimmage game for 20 minutes. Cost is $40 per participant and registration is open until August 28th.

Children's Choir

Mr. Spencer is seeking to establish a children’s choir for the 2026-2027 school year for children in 4th-8th grade that will primarily sing for the Tuesday Morning (8:15AM) School Mass and selected scheduled liturgies on the weekend. School Masses

You can find a full schedule of school Masses on the calendar in Rediker. We will be livestreaming all of the All-School Masses through GA’s YouTube channel. 

Cookie Ministry

Guardian Angels School Cookie Ministry teams up with the Parish Peanut Butter group to feed families in need. The Peanut Butter group makes 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. GA students donate cookies. St. Francis Seraph Church in Over-the-Rhine gives the food to families in need. 

Students are asked to bring in two dozen cookies, brownies, or rice krispie bars on their classroom's designated day. Treats need to be bagged, with two treats per bag. Donations of juice boxes and prepackaged snacks are also needed. All 7th grade classes are responsible for the next donation on Monday, August 31th. A complete schedule for the school year is attached.

Box Tops For Education

The Guardian Angels PTA collects Box Tops and uses the funds earned to purchase indoor recess games and outdoor recess equipment. Box Tops is now on a digital platform. To participate, you’ll need to download the Box Tops App and scan your grocery receipt within 14 days of purchase. You’ll find more information here.

Kroger Community Rewards

Have you signed up for Kroger Community Rewards and designated GA as your beneficiary? The more families who register, the more money our school receives through the program. Kroger Community Rewards offers a great way for you to support our school's technology fund and you don't have to spend a penny. You can search for GA or use our NPO number, 80200. The amount Guardian Angels receives depends on the points our supporters rack up while grocery shopping.
