As you navigate the many thoughts and feelings of this year's observance, I'd like to share information about two opportunities that you may find restorative and life-giving. The first is the Tri-Municipal 9/11 Commemoration 25th Anniversary Ceremony, which will be held at 5 pm on Thursday, September 10th at "Girl Scout Rock" in Memorial Park on Myrtle Boulevard. While the turnout for this annual event is always robust, I understand that many veteran first-responders from police and fire departments will be returning to stand with their active colleagues on this significant day. As a chaplain for the Larchmont Fire Department, I am humbly looking forward to the honor of standing alongside dedicated fire fighters who have courageously served our community and joining them in grateful remembrance of the heroes who gave their lives in response to the tragedy.
While gathering with others can be therapeutic, you may also find yourself in need of some quiet time to reflect on the emotions that September 11th still brings to the surface, If so, I encourage you to spend some time at LAC on Friday morning. While we work to keep our sanctuary open and available throughout the year, we have designated several days during the fall to publicly invite our community into our worship space. It is a recognition that modern lives are so busy that we rarely take time to simply sit and be quiet with God, with some meditative music, or just with ourselves. If we could just slow down for just a few moments of undisturbed quiet, we might realize just how thirsty we are for stillness and tranquility, and how refreshing and restorative simple moments like that can be.
However you may choose to observe this solemn anniversary, we pray that you will find solace in your faith and in the strength of our community. May God be with us in our grief... and also in our hope.
