Sign Up for Mass
on Sundays and Wednesdays in July!
As announced last week, we now have sign ups available for our 10:30 AM Sunday mass and 6:30 PM Wednesday mass:
A FEW CLARIFYING NOTES FROM THE RECTOR ABOUT "SIGNING UP" FOR WORSHIP:

  1. Yep, It's Odd. We recognize that it is a strange thing to ask folks to "sign up" for worship. However, we are living through strange times—and this was the best system that we could come up with for now. If you have ideas about an alternative system, please let me know. (I have really appreciated all of the suggestions that I have received thus far.)
  2. It is a Sign Up -- Not a Lottery. In other words, if you want to come to church and participate in the mass (and are able to abide by the Covenant for In-Person Worship based on Diocesan Guidelines--see next block below), all you have to do is click on one of the links above and sign up. It is that easy. If you can't figure out how to complete the form, call or e-mail the Parish Office, and Marie would be happy to help.
  3. Right Now, There Are Plenty of Spots Available. After having these sign ups available for a week, only a few spots have been taken. So, at this point, we have much more supply (available spots) than demand, which is fine. My primary desire is to make worship available to everyone who is comfortable with coming to church. And, for everyone else, we have live-stream worship available. Right now, it appears that we are offering more than enough in-person spots.
  4. If We Run Out of Spots on Sundays and Wednesdays, We Will Schedule More Masses. I love saying the mass -- so, if we get to a point when all of the available spots are taken, then I am happy to schedule additional masses to accommodate folks. Also, if you are uncomfortable coming to a service with ten people and would prefer a smaller service, just let me know, and I am happy to schedule something that will work better for you.
  5. Initially, Don't Sign Up for More than One Sunday a Month. Until we get a better idea of how many people are interested, please don't sign up for more than one Sunday a month. However, if spots continue to be widely available—or if you check on a Friday or Saturday and there are still spots available for that Sunday, feel free to sign up for additional slots. For the time being, we don't see a need to put a similar limit on Wednesdays.
Covenant for In-Person Worship
(from Diocesan Guidelines)
As we begin to open up additional (though still limited) opportunities for parishioners to attend worship in person at Saint Andrew's, please note that, pursuant to our Diocesan guidelines, those attending worship at this time commit themselves to the following norms for the foreseeable future:

  • If you have any symptoms associated with COVID-19, you will not attend in-person worship.
  • If you develop symptoms or are diagnosed after a liturgy, you will report it immediately to the priest.
  • You will not attempt to shake hands or hug anyone, and will do your best to maintain a distance of 6 feet from anyone outside of your family group.
  • You will wash your hands immediately before coming to worship.
  • You will wear a mask at all times while with the worshiping community.

Thank you for helping us worship together as safely as possible!
A Word from the Rector
New Worship Schedule & Protocol

Since we have recently revised our worship schedule, here is a brief overview of our new schedule and related protocol:

  • All Services - Face Masks & Six Foot Social Distancing by Household Required (see Covenant for In-Person Worship above for additional details).
  • 8:30 AM Sunday - Morning Prayer (Rite II) - Outside, In-Person Only, No Sign Up Required - This shorter, less formal service takes place outside in front of the columbarium courtyard. You are welcome to bring your own water or coffee to this service. There is currently no limit on the number of people who can attend — so there is no sign up for this service. (We will reevaluate this if we begin to run out of space for the people who attend. Last week, we had fifteen people attend and had plenty of space.)
  • 10:30 AM Sunday - Low Mass (Rite I) - In-Church, In-Person Limited to Ten People, Sign Up Required, Also Live-Streamed - This service continues to be very similar to what we have been doing for the last few months. However, due to increasing concern about the coronavirus in this area, we have eliminated congregational singing. This service is limited to ten people — with six of those spots already allocated (priest, organist, subdeacon, lector, altar guild member, usher). You can sign up for one of the four remaining spots here: standrewsgreenville.org/signup
  • 6:30 PM Wednesday - Healing Mass (Rite II) - In-Church, In-Person Limited to Eight People, Sign Up Required, Also Live-Streamed - This service continues to be very similar to what we have been doing for the last few months, but we are now allowing up to eight people — with three of those spots already allocated (priest, server/lector, altar guild). You can sign up for one of the five remaining spots here: standrewsgreenville.org/signup

I look forward to continuing to worship with you – either in person or from afar – in the weeks and months ahead. May God continue to bless and guide us in all that we do.

Grace and Peace,
Fr. Gary+

A Prayer of Spiritual Communion
from the Armed Forces Prayer Book (1951)
In union, O Lord with the faithful at every altar of Thy Church, where the Holy Eucharist is now being celebrated, I desire to offer Thee praise and thanksgiving. I present to Thee my soul and body with the earnest wish that may always be united to Thee. And since I can not now receive Thee sacramentally, I beseech Thee to come spiritually into my heart. I unite myself to Thee, and embrace Thee with all the affections of my soul. Let nothing ever separate Thee from me. May I live and die in Thy love. Amen.

Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications
On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.

If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.

During the summer, we will only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.
Service Opportunities
Feed Thy Neighbor
During the COVID-19 pandemic, FTN continues to serve a hot breakfast to those who are the most vulnerable in our community every Saturday of the month. Saint Andrew's parishioners handle the third Saturday of each month, and Christ Church, Saint James, and Saint Peter's handle the other Saturdays--with volunteers from the Roe Cassidy Law Firm serving whenever there is a fifth Saturday in a month. Though it's not the usual hot breakfast under current circumstances, our guests continue to be very appreciative.

If you are interested in ways you can help support this ministry, please contact the office.
United Ministries in Need of Food Donations
United Ministries' Emergency Assistance program is fully operational and focused on helping families keep their homes and putting food on the table. At this moment, they need canned meats, pop-top cans (meats/fruit etc.) and 1 lb. bags of rice .

The pantry is open daily (Monday thru Friday) 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM. If individual church members would like to donate food, it can be dropped off behind the United Ministries administration building at the loading area, located at 606 Pendleton Street, Greenville, SC 29601 . The pantry door will be open and someone will retrieve the food.
