Uptown, Tuesday Farmers Market in New OrleansNext Market: November 12, 2024
8 AM - 12 PM
Uptown Square
200 Broadway Street at the River
Directions and Parking Tips
The Tuesday Market is located Uptown near the Mississippi River levee at Tulane University Square (originally known Uptown Square). Find us in the northeast corner of the parking lot between Leake Avenue and Broadway Street. There's plenty of free onsite parking.
RTA Lines 57, 31, and 32 pass right by market! Click here to view route 57 or click here for route 31/32.
From I-10
From I-10/Pontchartrain Expressway, take the South Carrollton exit. If you're coming from Metairie, the ramp will merge with South Carrollton heading toward the Mississippi River; if driving from Downtown or New Orleans East, turn left at the first traffic signal (Palmetto Street) then right at South Carrollton. Go 2.2 miles to the end of South Carrollton and turn left on Leake Avenue. With the levee on your right, continue 0.8 miles; the Market will be in the parking lot to your left, just before Leake meets Broadway.
No Cash? No Problem!
All of our vendors accept cash and tokens. Swipe for tokens on-site at the orange Welcome Tent with debit, credit, or EBT SNAP.
Shop with SNAP!
Market Umbrella implements fresh food incentive programs such as Market Match, which doubles SNAP dollars spent at market for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables. Starting January 1st, 2023, market match will be unlimited, allowing us to match each EBT dollar being swiped for on-site at the orange Welcome Tent.
Between June and the end of November, certified market vendors accept Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers for both seniors and WIC participants. Market Umbrella is able to double FMNP benefits with tokens on-site at the Welcome Tent.

jape
/jeɪp/
Definition: A practical joke or mischievous trick; a jest or witty remark.
Origin: Late Middle English, from the verb "japen," which means to jest or make fun of.
Example: His attempt to jape his friends backfired when they played the prank on him instead.
"Jape" essentially means joke, encapsulating the notion of humor, mischief, or playfulness. It refers to a lighthearted trick, often intended to amuse or surprise. The term has roots in the concept of jesting, and while it may not be as commonly used today, it retains a charming quality that evokes traditional forms of humor. In essence, when someone refers to a "jape," they are likely describing a playful and humorous act, reminiscent of the classic spirit of a good-natured joke.

LSU Women's Basketball
BATON ROUGE – Flau’Jae Johnson surpassed 1,000 career points and Aneesah Morrow had 21 points with 20 rebounds as No. 7 LSU (3-0) took down Charleston Southern (0-4) Monday morning in the PMAC, 117-44, at the annual field trip game.
“It was a good day,” Coach Kim Mulkey said. “It was a great deal with the students and the appreciation I have for teachers and principals that make the effort to be here today at an 11 o’clock game.”
Johnson, playing in her 75th career game, entered the contest needing 18 points to reach 1,000 points in her LSU career. Johnson accomplished the feat in the fourth quarter, after dropping a layup on the fastbreak to finish with 18 points along with 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
Morrow’s performance was the 27th 20/20 game in LSU history. Morrow became the sixth player in program history to go for 20 and 20. Tuesday was Morrow’s fourth career 20/20 game, but first at LSU.
“Rebounding is not easy,” Morrow said. “It is about position and timing. It is about keeping your feet moving, as well. We work on that every day in practice. We want to get as many rebounds as we possibly can and we want to shoot as efficiently from the floor as we can.”
LSU also saw key performances from Mikaylah Williams and Kailyn Gilbert. Williams scored 25 points on 10-16 shooting with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Gilbert came just shy of a triple-double as she posted 14 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists with 0 turnovers.
Jada Richard recorded the first double-digit scoring game of her college career with 11 points on 4-4 from the field with 3 three-pointers.
LSU led the rebounding battle, 66-23 as six Tigers had at least 6 rebounds. LSU also dished out 23 assists with four players recording at least 4 assists.

NATIONAL INDIAN PUDDING DAY
National Indian Pudding Day recognizes a cold-weather classic. On November 13th each year, serve up this traditional New England dessert that's sure to wow.
In the seventeenth century, English colonists brought hasty puddingto North America, transforming it. Although they initially made the pudding with wheat, due to a shortage of grain, the colonists eventually used cornmeal. Since the colonists had learned to cultivate maize (corn) from the indigenous peoples, the crop was readily available. The colonists derived the name for Indian pudding from their name for cornmeal - Indian meal. They also replaced the water with milk. For added flavor, cooks add either molasses or maple syrup. Other ingredients they added include cinnamon, ground ginger, butter, eggs, raisins, and nuts.
They then slowly baked the Indian pudding for several hours. Baking transforms the pudding's texture from the original porridge-like quality ofhasty pudding to a much smoother consistency which is more typical of custard.
- Before 1900, most American cookbooks included a recipe for Indian pudding.
- By the 20th-century, commercial puddings with an industrially perfect creamy consistency replaced the popularity of Indian pudding.
- The long cooking time required for Indian pudding did not appeal to 20th century home cooks.
- However, during the autumn holidays, Indian pudding some restaurants serve the dish due to its fall traditions.
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream pair nicely with Indian pudding.

The rollicking photo essay is complemented by insightful and at times quirky observations and recommendations from noted contributors. For the tourist, this is not only the perfect memento of a memorable visit, but a rich resource to use during your stay. For locals, it’s a poignant reminder—This is why I live here.

Their portfolio highlights winemakers who practice organic, biodynamic, or natural farming and winemaking methods, ensuring minimal intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Their diverse portfolio tends to feature small-scale, artisanal European producers with an emphasis on Spain & Portugal.
Kerin Auth Bembry, founder of La Luz, has built a strong reputation as an expert in Spanish wines after spending extensive time in Spain and developing close relationships with winemakers across the country. Her deep knowledge of the regions and indigenous grape varieties has made her a champion of small, family-owned wineries that produce wines with a focus on terroir, sustainability, and tradition. Through her import business, she has helped bring a wide array of natural and organic Spanish and Portuguese wines to the American market that showcase the diverse styles of the regions.

Her vivid curiosity, displayed in the examination of language, proverbial sayings, and the personification of inanimate objects, extends to nature’s fury, as in the title poem, “Hurricane in a Bad Mood.” In addition, she depicts the many victims of oil spills in “When Pelicans Cannot Fly” and “The Gulf Turns into Tears.” As in her earlier books, one of which won a national competition, the poems range in tone from the playful to the prophetic, often containing flashes of wit, as in “Last Nail in the Coffin” and “Even the Dead Do It.” Whether ethereal or earthy, these poems encourage the reader to remain aware of our inevitable fate, but also to confront without despair the environmental challenges of our difficult century.
Sue Owen taught as the poet-in-residence at Louisiana State University and received the Professional Artist of the Year Award from the Louisiana State Arts Council. Her four previous books of poetry are Nursery Rhymes for the Dead, The Book of Winter, My Doomsday Sampler, and The Devil’s Cookbook.

The Leonid Meteor Shower is headed our way! Look for roughly 10 meteors per minute to grace our night skies on November 17-18. Best time to spot 'em is predawn on the 18th, and you're going to get the best views looking towards the south.
The bright moonlight might make it hard to see the meteors this year, but follow these tips from astronomer Bob Berman, and you'll know everything you need to know to get the best glimpse.

Starts at The Contemporary Arts Center!
6-7pm Intro to Swing
For total beginners to swing dancing or dancing of any kind. Also for those looking to refresh their basics and learn some ragtime dances. We use these pre-swing era dances to teach beginners how to step on rhythm, step on rhythm while connected to another person, how to connect in order to lead or follow, you'll learn to syncopate your footwork, and then we'll slowly start to let go of one hand and create the beginnings of what will eventually be a bad-ass swing out.
7:30-8:30 Lindy Hop Vocab - Intermediate Level
This class is gonna give you some must know moves, some technique, some philosophy, and of course, we'll continue to clarify and polish up your swing outs.
No partner required to take either of these classes. Come alone or with friends!

Comedy House New Orleans
The most unique comedy show in New Orleans is The Open Mic From Hell, hosted by Chris Trew (as seen on MTV, Comedy Central, America's Got Talent)
CHNO ( Comedy house New Orleans)
609-610 Fulton St
New Orleans, LA 70130
Mon,November 18
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
(Entry at 7:30 pm)
The Open Mic From Hell is the most unique night of comedy in New Orleans.
Everything about the show is chaotic and unpredictable in the most beautifully hilarious way.
The list of performers? A total mystery.
The jokes they’ll tell? Nobody knows, not even them.
How does it work? Comedians sign-up on the list an hour before showtime. At least 13 names get pulled out of the bucket.
When a name gets pulled they come on stage and make a choice - do they do an entirely new set based on words from the audience, or a special challenge set.
Past challenges have had comics doing their set outside on the street, with noise canceling headphones on, and with a designated heckler in the crowd. We are always adding new, improved, and ridiculous challenges to the show.

To maximize accessibility, trainings will be scheduled in neighborhoods across the city.
Narcan training sessions will include free Narcan for all participants, while Stop the Bleed training will cover essential skills for managing bleeding emergencies. As an extra incentive to participate, The Broadside will offer free movie tickets to a screening at the Broad Theater for the first 15 attendees at each of their hosted sessions.

Super Bowl LIX may happen more than three weeks before Fat Tuesday, but the host committee wants to make sure the city -- and the throngs of visitors in town for the NFL's championship game -- get the carnival experience.
The day before the game, February 8, there will be a Mardi Gras-style parade complete with elaborate floats, marching bands, and throws.
Our partners at NOLA.com report details of the parade are still being finalized, but float-builder Barry Kern says it will likely be a 20-float parade made up of signature floats from various krewes.
And because it is not an official carnival parade, corporate sponsors will also be a part of it.
Todd Graves, founder of Baton Rouge-based Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, will serve as grand marshal.
Rather than follow one of the traditional Mardi Gras routes, the Super Bowl parade will line up on Elysian Fields in the Marigny, parade up Decatur Street along the French Quarter, then take Tchoupitoulas St. to Poydras, turn up to St. Charles Ave., then proceed along St. Charles to St. Joseph St. just before reaching Harmony Circle.

Just two days after Super Bowl LIX, Jefferson Parish will celebrate its 200th birthday on Feb. 11. Bicentennial festivities kicked off at the State of Jefferson address Tuesday with the unveiling of the official poster, depicting a pelican before the Mississippi River in vivid pink and blue hues. It is illustrated by Louisiana artist Becky Fos, known for designing the 2023 state "I Voted" sticker, modeled after the Louisiana state flag.
A limited supply of signed and numbered posters can be purchased for $150, with proceeds going toward the Jefferson Community Foundation.
Courtesy of Jefferson Parish
The parish will celebrate the bicentennial on Feb. 11 with a Light the Night event, followed by a community-wide king cake party at Lakeside Mall on Feb. 15.
The following month, a bicentennial-themed Senior Expo will take place at the Alario Center on March 20, and a "Park to Park" 10K run will happen March 22 at Lafreniere Park.
Festivities for the parish's 200th birthday will come to a close June 14 with the Bicentennial Ball at Lakeside Mall, hosted by the Jefferson Community Foundation. Lee Sheng said she wanted parish events to involve the entire community and asked residents and local business owners to get involved.
"I want our bicentennial to feel like everybody's a part of it," Lee Sheng said in her address.
