After consulting with Mt. Prospect Police regarding our safety plan for school mass, Fr. Presta and I have decided that our best course of action for now is to hold a separate mass for the students and faculty on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.
-
The mass will be closed to the public. Parents/family may attend but will have to enter through the Parish office doors. An adult will be stationed at the entrance greeting parents. All Church doors will be locked.
-
All students will exit the school from doorway 11 and proceed across the fire lane to enter the Church through Hajdu Hall. An adult will be stationed at each end of the fire lane to prevent any car from passing through the lane while we are moving to Church.
- At the conclusion of mass, students will return to school following the same path in reverse.
While meeting with the police we also reviewed all of our safety plans. This Friday, the Archdiocese will be holding a meeting for principals regarding school safety that I will be attending.
Lockdown Drill - St. Emily School is committed to providing a safe environment for all students and staff. As required by the Illinois School Safety Drill Act, schools must conduct a law enforcement lockdown drill in case of an active threat within our building. With the guidance and presence of the Mt. Prospect Police Department, we will conduct our lockdown drill on Tuesday, September 9 at 9:00 a.m.
During the drill, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the building. All building occupants participate in the lockdown drills: students, staff, and any visitors who may be in the building at that time.
Prior to the drill, the students are briefed by their teacher in an age-appropriate manner so that they know what to do in the event of a lockdown situation being called. If you would prefer to not have your child participate in the drill, please have them arrive after 9:30 on that date.
Help Wanted - Do you enjoy working with children or know someone who does? Do you have a few extra hours in the afternoon? St. Emily Extended Care Program is looking for a few people to help out from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m. daily and one day from 2:45 to closing (which is usually between 5:45 and 6:00 p.m.). If interested please contact Kathy Wosz at kwosz@stemily.org.
Have a great week!
Ms. Booth
