From the Principal

I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

Psalm 23

Hello Everyone!

Now that cold and flu season are upon us, I thought it would be helpful to review the existing Covid policy. The Archdiocese of Chicago lifted all COVID-related restrictions and protocols following the May 2023 expiration of the public health emergency. For the 2023-2024 school year, COVID will be treated like other similar viruses. If a student or staff member experiences symptoms of any virus, they should stay home until symptoms have resolved for 24 hours. There are no minimum exclusion lengths, masking requirements, or reporting protocols.

With all that is going on in our world, I thought you might find the following article from Common Sense Media titled “How do I talk to my kids about violence in the news?” helpful.

On Monday we kick off Red Ribbon Week, an alcohol, tobacco, smoking, drug, and violence prevention awareness campaign. Student Council has planned a week of fun dress down days and activities. The schedule is here and will also be coming home today.

Pumpkins for our annual Pumpkin Walk are due on October 24 between 7:45-8:00 a.m. All rules and contest details are here and will also be coming home today.

Lockdown Drill - St. Emily School is committed to providing a safe environment for all students and staff.  As required by the Illinois School Safety Drill Act, schools must conduct a law enforcement lockdown drill in case of an active threat within our building.  With the guidance and presence of the Mt. Prospect Police Department, we will conduct our lockdown drill on Thursday, October 26 at 10:00 am.  During the drill, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the building. All building occupants participate in the lockdown drills: students, staff, and any visitors who may be in the building at that time.

Prior to the drill, the students are briefed by their teacher in an age-appropriate manner so that they know what to do in the event of a lockdown situation being called.  If you would prefer to not have your child participate in the drill, please have them arrive after 10:30 on that date.

A big SHOUT OUT to our cross country team! The Varsity Girls team Zuzanna, Ashley, Charlotte, Giulianna, Yuli, Eva, and Michela captured 16th place in the state and Zuzanna and Ashley placed in the top 50 runners. I am very proud of the whole team!.

Have a great week!

Ms. Booth
