From the Principal

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.

Not as the world gives do I give it to you.

Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. – John 14:27

Dear St. Emiily Families,

As adults, we experience varying degrees of sadness and fear whenever a school shooting occurs.  With today’s tragedy in Minneapolis, these feelings may intensify because the incident occurred at a Catholic school. It is difficult to comprehend such a horrific act and perhaps even more challenging for the students to understand.  I am sharing these resources that I believe you may find helpful when speaking with children about tragic events.

NASP - Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers

We want to assure you that we take school safety and security very seriously at SES.  We work very closely with Mt. Prospect Emergency Services to evaluate our security, practice drills, and provide inservice and practical strategies to our staff members in the case of an emergency.  There is limited access to the school building; all visitors must enter through a designated entrance while all other access points are locked.  Major access points have sensors to alert the office if a door is left open. All adults in the building emphasize that doors should never be open to let someone in. Our extensive camera system helps us to keep an eye on the students inside the building and the surrounding area. We conduct safety drills throughout the year with Mt. Prospect Emergency Services giving us the opportunity to review and revise our procedures.

Please pray for all those affected by this tragedy, whether directly or indirectly and for an end to violence in our world.

Sincerely,

Fr. Presta and Ms. Booth

Thank you to all the parents/guardians who attended last night’s Back to School Night for grades K-3. I know the teachers enjoyed seeing you, as did I! It was a great night for all!

Yesterday Fr. Presta celebrated our opening school mass and each child received a special backpack blessing from Fr. Presta. THANK YOU!

One of the joys of our school community is that we work together to make sure our children have a safe, happy, and faith-filled day. A very real way you can help is by volunteering for lunch duty.

Lunch duty may seem like a small task, but it has a big impact. Your presence helps keep our children safe, ensures that lunchtime runs smoothly, and allows our teachers to enjoy a much-deserved break so they can return to class refreshed and ready to give their best. For our students, it’s also a gift—they love seeing their parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles serving in the heart of their school day.

We are in great need of volunteers to cover our lunch periods. Even one day a month makes a difference, and the commitment is flexible. Many parents have shared that volunteering at lunch is a wonderful way to get to know the students, other parents, and the rhythm of school life. It is a small sacrifice of time that brings great joy and strengthens our community.

Your support will bless our school and, most importantly, our children.

Thank you for considering this important service. Together, we can continue to make our school a place where faith, learning, and community thrive.
