Don't Miss Thursday Gatherings at Sherwood Island

Thursday morning gatherings at Sherwood Island Pavilion are a Y's Men's summer tradition. Coffee, donuts, bagels, and conversation from 9:00 to 10:00 am are held every Thursday through August 29.

Plan to attend this Thursday and future Thursdays. No reservations are needed. Just show up and enjoy the free refreshments and conversation.

Following the social hour, an optional walking group forms up to tour Sherwood Island.

Special thanks to the Y's Men team that brings the refreshments. They are Al Landis, Bob Israely, Brian Baxendale, Lou Rolla, and Dick Kalt. Baxter Urist is the organizer of the Thursday morning socials.

Only Four Tickets Remain for Tomorrow's Sunset Cruise

Only four tickets remain for tomorrow's (Thursday, August 15) Sunset Cocktail Cruise which sails from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

The cost is $75.00 per person and includes beer, wine, water and "lite bite" appetizers (not dinner). Guests may bring their own food and beverages but no glassware. The ship, the SoundWaters, is an 80-foot tall three-masted ship styled after a 19th century Chesapeake Bay schooner. It sails from Stamford Harbor.

If you want any of those tickets, or more information, contact Dewey Loselle, the event organizer, at

deweyloselle@gmail.com or 203-454-4171

Wow! Almost 60 Percent of Beach Bash Tickets

Are Sold Already…Act Fast!

Almost 60 percent of the tickets available for the Y’s Men 2024 End of Summer Beach Bash have been sold. Event organizers urge that you act fast to purchase tickets for yourself and your significant other for the Bash on Tuesday, September 10, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Jacky Durrell Pavilion at Fairfield Town Beach.

The Pavilion is an open air covered facility with a deck opening out to the beach with ample tables and seating. Check it out at Jackie Durrell Pavilion.

The Beach Bash promises to be bigger and better this year. There will be a fully catered barbecue including wine and beer with a band. There also will be door prizes, dancing, best Hawaiian shirt contest, a Danceathon, Rock & Roll Trivia, and perhaps a Hula Hoop contest.

This extravaganza is limited to 100 people, and is expected to sell out quickly as it did last year. The cost is $55.00 per person.

Click the Pay Now button below to sign up and pay by credit card. You can also pay by check made out to the Y’s Men of Westport/Weston. Mail payments to Y’s Men of Westport/Weston, Box 167, Westport 06881-0167.

Volunteer help is needed for checking in attendees and for bar tending. No heavy work or clean up is involved. Let Dewey Loselle know if you can help.

Because the pavilion is covered, the Bash will be held rain or shine.

To volunteer, or for any questions contact Dewey Loselle at DeweyLoselle@gmail.com or 203 454-4171.

Here's How to Access "Members Only" Info on Website

Some important changes have been made to the Y's Men website. In the past, to view members only info, we all used the same username, 'canny.' Now we can log in with our own credentials.

If you have yet to login and don't have a password, or If you forgot your password, follow these instructions.

Go to the members only login page of the website by clicking on any menu item under the Members Only tab, enter the email address you use to receive newsletters. Select the Forgot Password link. You will be asked again for your email address. An email will be sent to you which will allow you to add/update your password. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to get the email. When you get it, go to the link provided and enter a secure password. Keep it in a safe place. On the other hand if you forget your password you can again click Forgot Password.

Once you've logged in, navigate to Manage Account (blue text on the home page) and click on it. Here you can edit the demographic info we have for you. Go to the option "Profile Image" in the left sidebar. If there is no photo of you and if you're game and if you have a selfie (photo) of yourself, you can upload it. After you upload be sure to hit save.,

If you'd prefer to have the photo uploaded for you, please get in touch with Allan Siegert (membership@ysmenwestportweston.org). He may already have a photo of you to use and if you'd prefer, he or someone on the membership team will do it for you.

2024 Westport Citizens' Police Academy Starts September 19

When you watch reruns of “Law & Order” and “NCIS”, do you say to yourself, “I could do that”? Well, here is your chance to find out.

The Y’s Men’s best friend, Lt. Jillian Cabana of the Westport Police Department, has announced that the Department will be offering a Citizens’ Police Academy starting on Thursday, September 19.

Participants will gain a better understanding of the role of the police department in the community. This class provides an opportunity citizens and police officers to get to know one another and discuss issues that affect the community.

Classes meet Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:30pm for eight weeks (except for Tuesday, Oct. 1) at Police Headquarters.

Here are the direct links to a summary of the course and the application form.

For more information, contact Lt. Cabana at jcabana@westportct.gov.

Westport Rotary LobsterFest Set for Saturday, September 21

One of Westport’s greatest annual community and family events, the Westport Rotary Club’s LobsterFest comes to Compo Beach on Saturday, September 21 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.

It’s a fun afternoon for the entire family with a full-on lobster dinner with all the “fix-in’s” including wine and beer (even steak if you prefer). Last year, the net proceeds enabled the Rotary Club to donate nearly $300,000 to over 40 local not-for-profits (many of which have Y’s Men connections) as well as international projects.

Tickets may be purchased online starting this Thursday, August 15, at www.westportrotary.org for $100.00 per ticket for adults and $10.00 for children, plus a processing fee.

“Spoiler Alert” – these tickets sell out within a week, so be sure to go online by next weekend.

Volunteers Needed: Westport Rotary is looking for volunteers to help at the event. If you volunteered at the LobsterFest in the past, you should have received a reminder and the Rotary hopes to see you again.

Please send any questions to lobsterfestvolunteers@gmail.com or click on the link below to complete the 2024 Volunteer sign up form:

Interested in Discussing U.S. Current Events?

Y’s Man Tony Pranzo would like to form a new Y’s Men activity to discuss current events in the United States. Its approach would be similar to the Global Issues Discussion Group, but would focus on domestic issues involving the economy, politics, and society. Tony envisions a small group at first – about five or six Y’s Men, so that everybody has a say, – that eventually might grow to several groups each discussing specialized topics.

The meetings would last about one hour. Tony will provide a list of suggested topics.

Tony is looking for a show of interest in this idea prior to setting up an organizational meeting. Contact him by email at tpranzo@yahoo.com or text message at 203-503-7150.

Bowling May Return as a Y’s Men Activity

Bowling ceased as a Y’s Men activity nearly seven years ago, but Y’s Man Sal Cassano may be responsible for bringing it back.

He runs a bowling league at the Nutmeg Lanes in Fairfield on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. It’s called the Mixed Nuts League and they are having an organizational meeting on Thursday, August 29, at 4:30 pm in preparation for beginning their new season on Thursday, September 5.

If you are interested, contact Sal for specifics. He may be reached at 475-331-2887 or salcassano35@gmail.com.

Only Two Places Remain for West Point Football September 21

It's nearly a sell-out with only two tickets now available for the Army vs. Rice University football game scheduled for Saturday, September 21.

An outing to West Point has long been an autumn event for the Y's Men and this year's program promises to be outstanding. In addition to the game, participants will watch the West Point Cadets Parade and enjoy a tailgating party under a tent that will be "home base" for Y's Men and their guests.

Y's Men "Andrews Sisters" Wait It Out Until Next Year's Parade

Y's Man and Past President John Brandt tells us, "The actors on this year's Memorial Day Parade float are on a 12-month delay in their performance due to rain. But their enthusiasm was displayed at a recent reunion luncheon at the Terrain Café as they looked forward to next May's parade."

The three dancing "Andrews Sisters" (Molly Alger and Linda Gilmore in the front row and Prill Boyle on the right in the second row) got together with their choreographer Carole Schweid (at left in second row) and producer John Brandt.
