Speaker Tomorrow Discusses

The Impeachment of Abraham Lincoln

Our Thursday morning meetings return tomorrow to Hoskins Hall with coffee, donuts, bagels and cream cheese from 9:00 am to 10:00 am; business meeting at 10:00 am; speaker at 10:30 am who finishes no later than 11:30 am. Hoskins Hall is downstairs in the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East in Westport.

Our special guest speaker tomorrow is Jeffrey Mayer who will discuss the impeachment of Abraham Lincoln! Yes, the Great Emancipator, considered by most as the greatest president in history, was impeached! Jeffrey Mayer will be here to tell the whole story. You don’t want to miss this.

Jeffrey has been a Westport resident, with his wife Nancy Diamond, for more than 30 years. He has taught classes on American Civil War History since 1998, and last spoke to the Y's Men in 2000 about business lessons from the Civil War. His books have covered business culture and "value-nomics," and he is currently working on a book that is the subject of his talk tomorrow.

Meanwhile, don't forget to get vaccinated for Covid and flu. The CDC says both diseases are major killers: Covid, still third after heart disease and cancer; flu is fifth. Now is the time to get both shots at the same time, perfectly safe for most but check with your provider.

Y’s Men Participate in Hurricane Helene Disaster Relief

Many Y’s Men gave time and money yesterday to participate in the North Carolina Hurricane Helene Disaster Relief Program. Members contributed funds to buy six generators and other badly needed provisions which were immediately sent to North Carolina.

Y’s Men started arriving at Stop and Shop in Westport in the morning and joined with Westport Rotarians and others to buy, package, box and then load a large truck headed to North Carolina. Thanks to the many Y's Men who stepped up; it is who we are.

Stay tuned as there may soon be a repeat need in Florida as Hurricane Milton bears down on the state's west coast this evening.
